• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

GTA V has gone gold.

I'm super early with asking this question, but..

Which version of GTA V do you think will be superior? 360 or PS3? I say this NOT to start any kind of console or fanboy war, but just as someone who owns both consoles, is completely comfortable with both controllers, and wants the best version of GTA.

Obviously graphics are going to be almost exactly the same, but there are the little small details that matter to me and others like frame rate and various effects.

I'm getting ready to make my preorder so I want to be as prepared as I can. :)

both will most likely be so close that it isn't very noticeable. If the online mode intrigues you, go with xbox 360 unless all ur buddies are on ps3.

I might be wrong but don't we already know what the first mission is from previews? or was that a different mission?

The first first mission ? No we don't know anything official about it, even if the achievements gave us a little hint.

Must be a different mission then, it sounds like how the game would start.

I think it will be near the beginning at least.

I would say PS3 will be best, just because that's the version they show.

I'm getting the Xbox version since I was dumb and got a 360 and not a PS3 :(

As someone mentioned above, just go with whichever console most of your friends play on. Rockstar themselves promised that the differences would not be noticeable. I have both consoles, but I'm getting it on PS3 because

A) Most ofy friends and family will play it on PS3
B) Most of the gameplay footage they've shown so far was on PS3, which might not mean anything, but makes me more comfortable with getting it on PS3.

I really am concerned about the controls. They were complete crap in IV. I hope they fixed them for V.

I remember really hating the way cars drove in IV. The rest of it was alright. But they need to make driving the vehicles into something which isn't a chore. You should just be able to tear around at high speed any time you want without having to worry about being stopped after two seconds by a car that slammed into you or a turn you weren't able to make.

Maybe just me but if the length of the story is about the same as previous GTA games then each character's story would surely end up being quite short?
Yeah, but they meet up to form one interwoven story. She says something like that in the gameplay video.

Seriously cannot wait for this game, I just preordered my PS3 copy a few days ago. I also just decided to go back and try out GTA IV again at the same time and really could not get myself back into it like I had done before. After seeing those GTA V trailers, it just pales in comparison now.

I don't agree with this whatsoever. The driving model in IV is excellent.

You just need to pay attention. I can't imagine how you'd go playing on PC with high vehicle density.

Has Rockstar announced if the collector's edition will include a season pass? Come to think of it, I don't think a season pass was even announced yet...

Seems kind of steep at $150

Well, the good news is Rockstar's admitted there were issues with the driving in GTA 4 (in one of the interviews they did a few months back) and promised to fix them for GTA V. So ya, hopefully no more boat driving.

unlucky for rockstar, game is gonna get crushed by dem wheels

No mention of season pass because theres no mention of GTA v dlc. At the end of a generation, with next gen kicking off about 2 months after this game, I don't think that season pass is a very good value.

I'm expecting dlc in the form of GTA online content but V

Looks way too clean for Ps3, or it's an old shot (?)
Old shot. One of the second or third batches. Since the early trailer graphics have been scanned back a bit. Still looks great but the game play trailer was not as sharp and detailed as the early trailers, but still pretty close

The first trailer wasn't incredible. The lighting was pretty much the same as GTA IV (=hideous). Same goes for the animations/textures. They improved all of this for the cutscenes trailers and the recent gameplay shots. The game was sharper and cleaner than GTA IV and the first trailer with better lighting and animations. 5 years of improvements of the RAGE engine and the experience of RDR, especially for the countryside.

I asked Rockstar (the mouthoff email) about the resolution of the game on PS3 and 360 (720p native, sub-hd) and they said "we won't get into specifics about graphics" and "we are doing our best to make sure that the game looks as awesome as possible on both platforms". At least I tried.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think LA Noire runs on RAGE.

I didn't think it did either, but it's listed either in the instruction manual or in one of the credits for the game. So it seemed to incorporate it on some level.

When can we expect the soundtrack announcement?

I don't think that they announced the full soundtrack before GTA4's release. At most you should just expect the names of each station and the genres that they'll deal with.

Well, I can say it's clearly not from a PC. Shadows are low-res.

Yeah, I mentioned in that "are these bullshots?" thread that none of the screens look THAT fucking great if you get out your pixel-counting goggles. In that shot for instance Michael and the bike look pretty great, but nothing else is particularly "omg that HAS to be PC or next-gen." Not at all. Michael, the bike, and the sun reflecting off the pavement is where the sexy is located. The rest looks plenty PS3 to these eyes.

It's that makes it look like a PC game, not the assets.

EDIT: Never mind, I see jaggies when I look closer.

I'd say extremely close with a very minor edge to the 360 unless they somehow unlocked more cell powa.

I'm in this boat as well, and I'm will most likely be double dipping (waiting for PC) version. But I'm really torn - most of the time, it's 360 but that means I'm going to have to probably get my xbox live account renewed again - which I'll have to do anyway because of Xbone - and usually in the past a lot of PS3 ports have been average - so I really don't know.

I think at this stage of the gen, and particularly for a powerhouse dev like R*, the differences really will be marginal at best, not hot air like it often was 3 & 5 years ago. But then, who knows.

You guys remember that casting call for the game with the code name Rush from Rockstar that was thought to be GTA V? (possible spoilers) I wonder if it really was GTA or something else.

The only ones that really stand out are Clyde and Kevin De Sava (Trevor and Michael's son).
I think it was. There's another casting call out there with stuff that matches up to other characters also. Names have changed, but I think it was real (unfortunately so, there was some spoilery stuff in there).

Did tbogt or the episodes disc have a better resolution on ps3? Im playing through it now and it looks better than vanilla gtaiv.
