Judging by how poor the series 1 Gipsy is in standing, I seriously doubt that thing can stand on its own without some stupid support stand or something.

Looks freaking cool though.

It stands on its own:

(Note that the paintwork is custom done by one of the Neca artists and doesn't represent the final product)

That's awesome!

Yeah, he's a great guy. I hope the other cast members come to conventions near me soon so I can get all of them to sign it!

Whoa, that looks awesome! I'm happy I held off getting regular Gipsy now, 'cause this sucker's earned a spot on my shelf next to Striker!

Got my Shinkawa poster signed by Ron Friggin' Perlman at FanExpo today (I'll post a pic later). He was super nice, and he did something awesome as well: he asked me if I wanted him to put a Chau quote from the movie on the poster. I said yes, and he just wrote
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH"

What a god-tier human being.

NICE. I hope he comes back next year, and hopefully I'll have a Pacific Rim poster for him to sign. I really wanna see that autograph now. :lol

Saw the movie finally last night at a late show here in Osaka. I loved it. Exactly what I wanted. Now I just need a sequel (with new jaegers for everyone!)

It should be over $400 million worldwide sometime in the next few days. Hopefully that number, along with the fact that the movie was well received by audiences and critics, will push it closer to the likelihood of the franchise continuing in the future.

Glad you liked it :)

Are you back in Japan, or something? Or is it just a visit?

Back in Japan. :)

I work for Playism now.

That's all I want. It's a fun super robot movie that begs for a franchise. There's so much not shown.

Oh, sweet dude. I was in that part of the world too, last week. Fuckin hoooooooooooooooooooooooot. *sweat sweat*

Yeah, my shirt was drenched waiting for my buddy to get to the theater. It was gross. The movie was worth it, though.

Already mentioned but BoxOffice in Japan seems low.

Yeah, most of the theaters here only have it on shitty screens.

It doesn't help that Gatchaman just came out here.

Any reason why?

I've only seen a few in IMAX, but I feel like Pacific Rim was one of the best (if not the best) movie to see in IMAX 3D. The image/sound quality is insane. Everything sounded amazingly big and punchy given the scale, too.

I'm also amazed how varied they kept the Kaiju vocalizations while still making them sound monstrous and everything. Shout-outs to the old Godzilla SFX were great, too.
The flying Kaiju AKA "the one that showed up just in time to reveal Gipsy's got chainswords" started sounding like Gamera when it got its wings out. :lol

Why is the release date of the Blu-Ray still not announced yet? Come on Del Toro, I need to watch the Hong Kong beatdown 16 times in a row damnit!

Its still showing in some of the theaters here in China (but I think I missed the last of the IMAX 3D's last weekend..), I think I'm gonna catch this one last time before it leaves the cinema. Though I'm disappointed I can't watch it in IMAX 3D again, its just not the same on a regular screen...

true dat brah!

seriously though pacific rim has been the best experience ive had in an Imax thus far. i really wanted to try out the D-box, maybe when that sequel hits ;)

I so want to watch the movie again. Really hard. The movie was a complete boy's dream with huge monsters and awesome robots. I cant stop listening to the main theme, ramin djawadi is god tier composer.

I WANTS THE BLU-RAY! GIMME WB

The Neca toys are pretty meh, though. Build quality is bad and the paint job is atrocious. Plus, I hate how they force you to buy so many variants.

I thought they look good. They're more for play than display. You could check out the 18" Gypsy which is more high quality from pics I've seen.

Um check the previous page?
Or amazon

Edit: u can even scroll up

Figurines are one thing, toys are another. WB has a great toy franshise on their hands if they can just license it out to be playable toys. I dont get why it's taking them so long... They playsets would practically sell themselves: The Jaegers, the Kaijus, different color/weapon style-jaegers, different shatterdomes hq sets...

Yeah, seems like it's one thing to make an unproven IP a success but they can't even organize a well working money milking machinery anymore. It's like they forgot how to.

That one is too big for my taste, and still feels more like a toy than a display piece when it comes to paint and build.

WE DID IT!

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim Crosses $400 Million Worldwide

Guillermo del Toro’s widely praised action adventure “Pacific Rim” has crossed $400 million dollars at the worldwide box office, becoming the director’s highest grossing film ever. The announcement was made today by Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution and Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures; and Legendary Pictures.

Internationally, “Pacific Rim” is still in release in a number of territories and has grossed $302 million thus far. In China alone, the film is the biggest of any Warner Bros. Pictures release ever and the fifth-biggest MPA film gross in China’s cinema history. The film’s record-breaking release in China also furthers Legendary’s growing presence in the territory.

“The worldwide performance of ‘Pacific Rim’ is a clear testament to the quality and originality of Guillermo’s world-building,” said Jon Jashni, President and Chief Creative Officer, Legendary Entertainment. “We are pleased that audiences continue to respond so passionately.”

“From Moscow to Beijing, ‘Pacific Rim’ has captivated critics and audiences alike in markets all over the world, and become a box office juggernaut,” Kwan Vandenberg said. “Congratulations to Guillermo, his cast and crew, and our partners at Legendary for this exciting benchmark.”

Fellman added, “Critics and early screening audiences were the first to love ‘Pacific Rim’ and it’s exciting to watch the whole world follow suit. We congratulate Guillermo and his team on both sides of the camera, as well as Legendary, for the tremendous success of this film around the globe.”

From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes the sci-fi action adventure “Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim.”

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are synched via a neural bridge, called “The Drift.” But as the enemy grows more powerful with each attack, even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a seemingly obsolete Jaeger. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

“Pacific Rim” stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, and Ron Perlman.

Oscar® nominee Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) directed the film from a screenplay by Travis Beacham and del Toro, story by Beacham. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro and Mary Parent produced the film, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer and Jillian Share Zaks co-producing.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present a Legendary Pictures/DDY Production, a Guillermo del Toro film. The film has been released in 2D and 3D in select theaters and IMAX®, and is being distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. This film has been rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence throughout, and brief language.

Woohoo!!

Hopefully the momentum keeps up with the blu-ray sales, this needs a sequel despite you Americans preferring shitty Adam Sandler movies.

Just watched the movie with some friends yesterday, it was not a big room (probably 30 seats), they were a couple, and other 3 guys with the 6 of us in the audience, but the screen, quality, and seats were pretty nice.
One of the most fun Ive had in the movies in a long time.
We were as excited as little kids when we got out of the cinema.
So many love by Guillermo was pured into the movie, this things have to be applauded, but sadly people seem to prefer atrocious movies to this one.
So yeah, we lfucking loved the movie.

The only negative aspect I have is that the Russians
didnt kill one of the kaijus, at least, they kicked ass before they were killed

Great news. It is in line with what most of us were thinking it would do. I see it also picked up in Japan a bit after the disappointing first weekend.

Hopefully this gives Legendary some reasons to develop a strong franchise. After the great success in China I don't see how they don't at least consider it.

fuck yeah! now to see how it does on blu, because a lot of people where iffy about seeing it in the movies.it is kinda sad that it had to hit 400 mil just to be profitable :/

Although studios don't see much from China, at least now the movie is in a good position to make some money in the home market. It definitely has a chance for a sequel now IMO.

I tried to help. I saw it three times and brought friends. Would have been four but all the IMAX theaters stopped showing it.

Great news on passing $400. Already pre-ordered the Blu-Ray, but still waiting on my artbook.

Man, is there an official snippet of the first 10 minutes or something? I need to watch just a bit to get my fix.
