Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Catching up with the last few pages, I wish you guys would use spoiler tags for certain Fire Emblem related things, especially pertaining to Marth...I just started the game a few days ago, and while its nothing I didn't suspect, still...I know names I shouldn't know now, and that's very, very annoying.

Yeah, I know. But as I said, this thread is almost like a Nintendo OT sometimes and I didn't want to make a thread just for one small question.

I'm quite sure the "fall conference" was just from an engadget article that mentioned a Nintendo and Capcom collaboration. More details are to be revealed just before the 9/14 Monster Hunter 4 release date.

There was a Nintendo Direct hype thread for this, but it got locked as there is nothing official yet.

This seems very appropriate, as we're now on page 101.

14./00. [WIU] The Wonderful 101 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.08.24} (¥6.830) - 5.258 / NEW

Goodbye Wonder Red. Nobody is ever going to play as you in a Smash game.

I agree. I've already been spoiled about it in the other thread (but my fault at that time for highlighting spoilers without thinking), but now hardly anyone even bothers with the spoilers tag anymore.

I remember getting spoiled about Mother 3 during Brawl hype in other places... not cool :(

Are there any mentions of which Pikachu costumes will be in this Smash Bros? I have one, I call it Patchychu!

Any takers? ...no?

Oh okay...

That looks tight. Which reminds me, I hope alternative costumes aren't mostly limited to color schemes this time around again. Yarn Yoshi/Kirby, Dr. Mario, Mr. L., athletic Peach/Daisy, Galacta Knight, and so on shows there are so many amazing possibilities.

Has this bothered anyone else? Paper Mario introduced a shit ton of really new and cool characters, and Smash has neglected the series entirely! What's up with that? :(

Yeah, I feel like they could easily make an unique moveset for Paper Mario that would different from Mario. Make use of his friends, the hammer could easily be used for some moves, maybe have a stage or at the very least music included.

Precisely! Even assist trophies featuring, like, Doopliss or something would be nice. But yeah, Paper Mario would be an amazing character.

Don't need more than one Mario. Dr. Mario was unnecessary.

Don't need more than one Link. Young Link was unnecessary. Toon Link was unnecessary.

Clone characters, whatever. But two "versions" of the same character fighting each other feels off.

Paper Mario is unnecessary.

As a side note, Mario RPG paved the way for Paper Mario to do what it's done. SMRPG did it earlier and did it better, and has also gotten little to no recognition in Smash. So I don't see what's too surprising/upsetting about it.

Well, the last Paper Mario completely dropped all that though... Still, I was never very attracted to the idea of "Paper Mario", especially considering how he wouldn't even be a clone, but would need to be animated and designed completely separately from Mario, taking the place of a completely unique character. It'd just seem like a waste.

I'd have liked 3d versions of other Paper Mario characters though, but now it's too late for that, with the way the series went in the last game.

Taking guesses here

September:
Nothing?

October:
New/Returning Pokemon revealed.
Ganondorf/Zelda&Shiek
Sonic

November:
Diddy Kong
Zelda&Shiek/Ganondorf

December:
Peach

I'm just going by releases of major games.

Slightly changing it up here.

September:
Ganondorf/Zelda&Shiek

October:
New/Returning Pokemon revealed.
Sonic
Mii

November:
Diddy Kong
Zelda&Shiek/Ganondorf

December:
Peach

Holiday:
Sonic (Mario and Sonic)

So Sonic will either be announced October, or November/December. I'm going to guess December, as to have two characters revealed each month.

I don't think multiple character reveals per month is something that's going to happen until 2014. Announcements will pick up as the game gets closer to release.

We'll see. I just don't see Nintendo wanting to miss an opportunity to advertise their games a little more.

AHHHHH! NINTENDO BOMBS HAVE BEEN DROPPED! I didn't expected price drops, 2DS, release dates confirmed, and etc.

Anyway, it's nice to see that we have confirmed release dates for the games, so we could try to see if we can predict next batches of returning characters, just like someone did on this page.

so i was playing some rouge squadron 2, i check neogaf and a whole bunch of nintendo stuff has happened today, i leave for an hour....
any smash news hidden in the mounds of nintendo news?

Sakurai: A panoramic view of Wuhu Island. The stage flies around the right hand side of the mountain.

Looks great but sadly it seems to rule out flying through the volcano.

Yeah, but I saw one yellow circle and blimp/helicopter near the volcano. Who know. I'm pretty sure that some people would be upset if they announced Mii as Pilotwings representative.

Edited: My prediction sense is tingling.

Wii U release date is Sept
3DS release date is Nov

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but

does it seem to anyone else that the stages we have seen so far tend to be simple arrangements of stable/movable platforms, travelling around a Nintendo setting/theme? I get that it is more fair for a fighting game, but we have Final Destination and Battlefield for those purposes, I would like to see more gimmicks in the stages, and more complicated designs, like we used to see in N64 and Melee, or maybe my memory is failing me? Anybody else feels that way?

Well considering we've only seen stills for the last couple months, it's a bit hard to discern exactly when and where mobile stage gimmicks will be present.

I'm actually glad there haven't been too many zany off the wall layouts shown off yet, though there will certainly be plenty. While I love places like Poke Floats and Picto Chat, I can't stand Habanero and New Pork City. I hope there is a nice equal amount of fairly flat stages with platforms and raised sections and pits here and there along with balls to the walls layouts. Just not 75 Meter or Rumble Falls type of layouts.

Still most importantly I like that many of the stages shown off so far are played on the actual terrain of the game it came from rather than just random platforms floating in front of a back drop.

I think the stages with the most going on at the moment are on the 3DS version. Super Mario 3D Land looks fun with its traveling platforms and spike pillars and I think a traveling NSMB stage that looks about as fun as the Mushroomy kingdom at the moment.

Why does Ridley look like a Star Wars reject there
It's based on the goofy off-model official art in the NES Metroid manual:

Same manual that gave Kraid hair:

My main concern regarding stages is, and always will be, playability, and I like to have a bit more variety to choose from than just Battlefield and Final Destination.

I should also say that there were many similar complaints leveled against Brawl early on in its reveal cycle, and that game is probably the gimmickiest Smash in terms of stages.

people really need to stop thinking this til we get full on video of completely stages, theres always something going on in smash stages, cept for final destination and battlefield, and now maybe ̶l̶i̶l̶ ̶m̶a̶c̶'̶s̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶g̶e̶ boxing/wrestling ring
