Chappelle walks off stage

A comedian should always have back up material. Most comebacks you see from comedians are just recycled jokes from their stand up or generic pre written insults. Chappelle shouldn't be going on stage if he isn't ready.

People in this thread can hate me for my negativity toward Chappelle, but all i'm doing is telling the truth.

And again I don't hate Chappelle

Thought you said they come up with it on the spot. By the way, how does someone direct comebacks at a giant horde or hecklers? This isn't one idiot you can call out for being bald, or short, or imply the other dude at his table is his boyfriend or something. That video sounds like he walked into a noisy cafeteria. And something tells me if he railed on the crowd by insulting the region or something, you wouldn't be holding him up like some posters are holding up that Burr clip. You'd be saying he didn't handle it well.

Gonna get to see this man in Vegas in September! Can't wait!
Hecklers need to fucking quiet down. I remember there being one or two hecklers at Norm's stand up and he handled them with the quickness

Hecklers are the worst. I pay good money to see a comedian and some talentless fuggas ruin it by trying to be funny? That's like taking your car to a mechanic and some fucker off the street walking up banging on the engine.

Only way he could've handled it better would've been by shooting a flamethrower into the audience. That security sucked.

Not many comedians actually come up with material on the spot. They do a good job of making it look like they do though.

Chappelle is my favourite stand up comedian, but supporting this is just insane.

lol

Hecklers: ruining shows that they paid to see. Sound logic.

What? No it isn't.

Can't blame him, I would have done the same. Maybe he was having a bad day or something?
Crappy that a few people who wouldn't let the man do his set caused this, but hey... you win some you lose.

I know everybody wants their dramatic comedian breakdown on stage, but I think Dave handled this awesomely. He was actually really calm and chill, and just walked off the stage. Not everything has to be a meltdown of epic proportions.

Who says that a comedian has to respond to hecklers with rage and angry. As amusing as the Bill Burr clip was, he easily could have just said, "fuck it, I'm out."

Dave did, and I think it was a good choice. A commendable choice. He didn't turn it into a circus with memeable sound bites. It's a shame that people who were just coming to a comedy show were robbed of it by assholes.

I mean, I look at it this way:

Let's say you work in customer service, and a customer comes up to you and starts disrespecting you, or being difficult, would you just "work through it?" Would you just take it? Probably not. You'd probably get a manager, or step away from the situation. Why should Chappelle be any different because he's a rich comedian? It's a job like any other, and he wasn't being allowed to do his job, so he left.

Hey Moze, because I know you're going to turn this thread in that direction anyway, let me preemptively state that nobody gives a crap about your shitty comedy, no one buys that you have an ounce of craft, and nobody wants to hear you talk about how your "brilliant" trolling means you're "pissing on" us, when all you're actually doing is make us pity you for being so attention starved.

Stop wasting everyone's time.

I saw him last month and the dude a couple of rows behind me started to scream "I'm Rick James, bitch!" and I just wanted to punch his face knowing something like this could happen. He stopped after the third time, and the show was pretty much heckler-free.

The crowd was shit though, we where in Montreal and most of the public seemed to be middle aged white couple, probably a lot of us where French Canadian too and people seemed to miss some american references. But all in all it was great and I can say that I finally saw Dave Chappelle live, never thought I would.

I've done plenty of hour sets and its grueling. A little heckling is completely normal but every once in a while it gets so bad that you can't deliver lines accurately and the jokes suffer. Being a comedian nothing is worse then feeling like you are giving a subpar performance. You literally wouldn't understand it unless you've done it because part of the comedians job is to make it look easy and natural. It is neither.

Eh, not really his fault. He gets up there to do a routine and people yelling at him and whatnot are pieces of trash. If I were at a comedy club and people ruined my chance to see Chappelle do jokes, I'd be incredibly upset with those people. The hecklers are a problem for everyone, not just comedians.

Easy tiger, hecklers can get a comedian to crack some funny gags too. Some stand ups can make a heckler feel like a right dickhead sometimes. Frankie Boyle is pretty good with hecklers amongst many others. They should be able to handle it.

I don't understand why our social culture has evolved into this thing where it's okay to yell during movies, stand up or when people are doing speeches.

I think it might be that this generation sucks so much. And is so egotistical, that they don't realize their own shit be stinkin. The why did parents bring them up with god complexes?

Makes me wish for some dictatorship, just to keep the douchebaggery in check! Learn some manners kids! and get of me lawn!
This is not just a problem with stand-up. People nowadays just don't have good concert etiquette at all.

Audiences don't seem do understand that to us performers, this is not just something we do strictly for your amusement. This is a JOB, people! We are doing this for our livelihood. This takes tons of rehearsal to organize, and tons of concentration to maintain in the moment. Don't interrupt us while we are doing our job. I don't go to our cubicle and start typing on your keyboard when you are typing out some lame paperwork for our employer, do I? No? Then shut the hell up and let me do my stand-up.

I've had so many people come up to me and try to play my percussion while I'm playing with my band. Everyone feels entitled to do whatever they want, especially if they feel they paid enough. Well, that's not how it works. You pay me to perform a service, and then I perform that service to you. I can't perform this service if you are constantly interrupting me.

And this notion that all good comedians must be able to heckle back is ludicrous. Some comedians are great at insulting others, and this might be their way, but comedians have a routine, which encompasses memorization and timing and delivery. Executing everything on point is not easy, even for the best comedians. And it is made extra difficult if you have not just one, but many people screaming at you from the crowd. No one should have to endure all that. We need to not blame the comedian for walking out; he did the only thing that worked at that point. Put the blame precisely where it belonged: on the crowd.

I don't know what i done to you but i am sorry man.

I'm just here to share my opinion. You are acting like i have personally insulted you or something. Discussion on this forum would be boring if we all agreed with each other

Don't worry though i will be sure to PM you my next OP so you can approve it just before i post

It can't always be rowdy fans. This is becoming a go-to excuse for him

The rowdy fans are a big contributing factor, to be sure. I think Chapelle is just weirdly sensitive. He has every right to be able to do his set in peace, but most comedians would find a way to work around the situation, or turn it around on the hecklers.

yeah. he's a great comedian and hecklers are a bunch of assholes.

but honestly...this dude is in the wrong business. he needs thicker skin. he can't keep running away.

I love Chapelle to death but I too think he might be a little too rueful about his past success. Is it annoying to have the same two or three decade-old one-liners parrotted in your presence wherever you go? Absolutely, I'll agree with that and I will never excuse heckling. But those one-liners also catapulted you to wealth and stardom and those annoying assholes are still your fans, so as long as they're not being disruptive assholes then I don't think it should be too hard to reflect on the fame and fortune RICK JAMES, BITCH brought you and grin and bear it.

He's gonna have to 'cause the Rick James jokes will never go away.

Dude's gotta deal with it

Heckling is dumb. Very dumb.

But being sensitive to it when you're a veteran of standup is a bit weird. Dave should have a thousand ways to deflect it by now. There are ways to get the crowd on your side. There are ways to do your thing. But ultimately, my sympathies go to Mr. Chappelle because ultimately it's not his fault.

The attacks on Moze seem a bit weird too but I don't follow this Gaf drama bullshit.

If Bob Sagget survived and thrived during his AFHV stage, Chappelle can survive Rick James.

What have i done? I posted a video of Chappelle walking off stage. This is news and i thought you guys would be interested in seeing it.

I posted my opinion that i thought he didn't really handle it too well.

You seem to have some sort of vendetta against Chappelle.

Don't forget to include the skit you wrote for your last thread. I believe your 2 day self imposed time limit has been up for a while.

I like how he didn't handle it well and meltdown are used to describe a guy calmly saying goodnight and ending his performance.

Please explain to me OP how he would handle it better? Go hug and kiss the hecklers?

He started the thread off with "dave chappelle is overrated. Look at this one thing he did to prove it." Then later he said "dave chappelle is my favorite standup comedian". He doesn't really have anything to say.

My last thread was ''Chappelle Show is Overrated as Hell'' from the moment i made that thread everyone on here seemed to hate me. I stand by that thread. I AM NOT a fan of the Chappelle Show like at all. I am a huge fan of Chappelle's stand up though, but that doesn't mean i cant be critical of it.

You guys just seem like crazy Chappelle fans to me.

Do you want me to say some positive things about Chappelle?

I just don't get your reasoning. So you love his standup but you're bashing it to prove that your last thread was right? Not to mention you're giving a single example, and it's questionable at best because he was being heckled to all hell.

The funniest thing about that Bill Burr clip is how angry they get when he makes fun of their sports teams. There's definitely an overlap between 'most obnoxious people in the room' and 'biggest sports fans'. He did good.

laugh about their moms having herpes and them dying of cancer but as soon as you trash Mcnabb they booo.

quality youtube observation / comment right there

This was unnecessary in every way. Wow, just wow.

As for Moze, I understand why Chapelle walked off and that should not be a knock against him. Performing under those conditions is not good even if you are a comedian.

Hardly a meltdown, but GAF certainly makes him out to be far funnier than what he really is.

Have you seen his previous stand-up shows? Without shame, I'll say they're some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. And flawlessly performed. Fuck the sketch show, I'm talking about his tours.

Saw him perform live in Maryland several years back. Dude killed it.

Dave is gonna get heckled by "im rick james bitch" forever, i feel bad :( and pissed at the idiots that say that. cmon guys stop that shit.

smh Hecklers.

The video is all that is needed really. A good comedian encourages hecklers and comes up with material on the spot. Obviously Chappelle just isn't as witty as people on here make out. He said absolutely nothing funny while being heckled, instead he just sat down smoking weed.

Do good surgeons actively encourage lawsuits against them in your world as well?

'Killin them softly'' and the 2004 stand up are my 2 favourite routines of all time.

The homeless dude jerking off on the bus>>>>

I really fucking hate the Chappelle show though. When i say i love his stand up but hate his shitty sketch show people think i am crazy. I honestly do not find his sketch show funny AT ALL.

Aggressive heckling is one of the strangest types of behavior I can think of. A light heckling I can see happening from a crowd, comedians are used to that. But someone who has the arrogance to fuck with the flow of a show without remorse for the performer or the audience is really bizzare to me. I guess it usually involves too much alcohol? I think the boundaries have changed for this generation though, we feel more entitled to something that we shouldn't be a part of in a lot of ways.

Just read got around to reading the first thread in its entirety (well really skimming the highlights)

Moze is definitely more subtle this time around, if only because anything is more subtle than a flaming train wreck
