Titanfall - PAX Prime intro and gameplay

No snap-on anywhere. PC (gamepad) and console controls are identical, and what people on the show floors have been playing.

Controls & player movement have had a ton of time & work put into them by a number of coders, designers, animators, artists, testers, and etc over the course of this project. Most of it, if we've done our job correctly by the time the game is done, you won't ever know you notice. =)

If anyone playing these last two weeks had problems or concerns, would love to hear from them.

dis game mang

Looks like a pretty fun game, I'd take it over another COD any day. Will my PC run it? No. Will I buy an Xbone for it? No. Do I hope it makes it's way to PS4? Yes.

Wonder how long until the yearly releases start?

I did not see any aim assist that was noticeable from watching or playing.

The main problem I had was that the default sensitivity was too low for me and I wasn't 100% sure on the Radar with bots / people. That and my team sucked so we lost 200-400 (#1 on mine). Booooooo. Still I didn't play as well as I wanted.

A person I was watching was playing well and moving smartly across rooftops pretty fluidly. I tried to replicate this, but only having a few minutes to attempt it in out of fight zones combined with slow rotation did not make those 90-180 degree turns and grabs easy for a first timer.

If the line wasn't so damn long I'd give it a lot more time.

As for footsoldier vs Titan I agree that both feel fine. I picked a Heavy Titan to win Titan duels and that seemed to work well and even got a Rodeo kill + FIST TO PILOT. If you have 2 or 3 people focusing a titan it'll go down very quickly, but it's like a second life and you can boost your way out before you eject if you are smart about it.
Is there an option to map jump to a shoulder button? Some of these moves seem like they would be difficult to pull off on a controller without clawing.
AHA! You just reminded me I play Halo with Bumper Jumper for this very reason. This would make it so much easier for me to do what I wanted.

Whats the point of all this movement if you need to stand/walk and a crawl in ADS to kill someone
CQB shotty. Well, that was what I was going to play until I saw how effective the AR was at close and distant with high accuracy.

TTK is very low so it worked out alright.

This likes like a ton, and I mean a ton of fun. Simply awesome.

Have zero interest in getting an Xbox one, but this looks more fun than any upcoming ps4 or pc game.

So they can tout that its some kind of revolution in FPS game design.

You know, a revolution that Quake and Unreal Tournament were taking advantage of 15 years ago.

The point of movement is to move around. In Titanfall the movement is faster than many modern FPS games, so you can actually move around faster too.

They've called back to earlier fps games before, actually.

I feel like this game could've done with a aesthetic look not so similar to Call of Duty. Littered streets of the outskirts of a city isn't exactly an original environment and it just looks messy and busy. More clarity in both the environments and HUD would've been nice. Looking at that smart pistol gif you can see how the HUD is just filled with information presented in an incoherent way. Wish they would just keep it simple.

Brilliant business moves. Help usher in a new age of military shooters and once the fatigue starts to set in jump back to what you replaced in the first place.

Thanks, sounds great looking forward to getting my hands on this

.

Yea, no...

It looks like the mode they showed at Pax was called Attrition mode, and is essentially your run-of-the-mill deathmatch, but perhaps there are other ways to score points as well. The main differentiator is the Epilogue. Losing team tries to escape in dropships. Winning team tries to stop them. If they do stop them, winning team gets an exp bonus (you do level up in this game, at least in the pax build)

SIX human players vs SIX human players, with an unknown number of bots on each side.

Has there been any mention of how they are encouraging players on the losing team to actually head for the evac? From a standpoint of ignorance about the game, If the enemy teams knows where you are headed and you and your team are on a countdown,. it's going to be shooting fish in a barrel for the other team. If I was on the losing team I would probably just try to continue to rack up kills instead of going for the evac ship. Has there been any info on how they are encouraging players on the losing team to go for the evac? Or is it just simply, play a different game mode that doesn't have that aspect if it doesn't interest you/me?

So most of the weapons are going to have a lock on/homing method or have insane damage cones that don't require precise aim ( shotties )? :P

To be honest, this game alone is going to be a major driving force for the Xbone.

Sony should of opened their wallet wider.

They say the team that gets away gets "mega xp" (their dudebro vernacular, not mine)

I would imagine that the winning team also gets a bonus for preventing escape.

It seems like you have a really short time to evac. Like less than 30 seconds. Maybe the evac ship will appear in a random location each time, so if it looks there will be a clear winner minutes before the match is over some of the victors are not already camping in that area.

Noone's gonna tell it that way, but the game is designed around gamepad and it's speed and precision, that's why. It will work on a mouse, it will certainly be much "easier" ti play on it, but that doesn't mean it will be more fun that way. Mouse wasn't their focus. You can see that even in movement, those wall jumps and double jumps are so, so slow. We can analyse hipfire mechanics and precision, but that just won't work on a gamepad and that's why all this is standard today.

Honestly, Sony really fucked up on this one. Titanfall looks to be the next gen defining game and by the time it comes to PS4, it will be too late.

I think Sony will be putting all their eggs into the Killzone basket. It has always been their premier FPS game, yet it has never really hit the critical mass of CoD or even Halo.

Has killzone ever reached the level of Halo, or Gears of War? I'm not trying to start any shit, I just want to know why they would do that.

EDIT: Reading comprehension bad on my part. Second part of my question still stands, though!

Sony always billed it as the Halo killer, which means nothing really now. It does well but it seems to me that many of the big FPS and shooter based games on PS4 die out fairly quickly. I know there are still smaller communities carrying on playing those games but they always seem to die out well before their time.

Of course Halo 4 did the same, so I am interested to see what 343 do to turn that around next.

It is a bit sad that the most unique fps coming out is being labeled as "cod with mechs". That is just naive imo and shows a real lack of knowledge about fps games.

Anyway, I think some journalists and other people have missed the hundred hints about campaign multiplayer not being the main MP mode.

I can't imagine people jumping around if theres buildings. As a cod player its only natural that I camp and with friends we pick out the rushers.

So I'm sitting in the line for Titanfall line at PAX. Its a 2 hour wait. It wraps all the way around the Xbox booth... At least I get to watch Forza and Killer Instinct while I wait.

I'm really surprised none of the next gen controllers have gone for extra buttons on the bottom of the controller ala Razer & Scuf controllers.

As you say having to take your thumb off the right thumbstick (look) to press A (jump) stops you being able to perform both actions in perfect harmony.

Maybe if Titanfall wasn't coming to the 360 and PC as well. It's a multiplatform game, and that alone weakens it's drive as a next gen hardware pusher.

Thank you very much for the info. I have some concerns very similar to yours about the placement of the evac. But overall, it is not a huge issue. I just hope they put some thought into balancing it.

Hahah, no. =)

Lol.

This was always it's "flaw" that nobody really said.
" IF its coming out on current why buy next gen?" It might look shittier but people would rather just pay the 60 then to pay 500 plus for the same game.

Since when does a game's presence on the PC compromise its ability to be a "next gen hardware pusher"?

Possible Launchpad McQuack confirmation. Knowing EA it will probably be DLC.

Killzone will always be a 'B' level shooter. If Sony is putting all there eggs in that basket I hope they're ready for the baskets bottom to fall out and for them to smash on the floor.

I would have thought they would have just gotten Guerrilla to have a new IP in that slot would be a great time to launch with something fresh.

The graphics look amazing, they always do. But the franchise just doesn't seem to click with a mass audience. I expect the same outcome again.

Can't speak for graphical capabilities, but I'll be damned if that doesn't look like FUN

I think Titanfall will be the Halo/Gears of this gen

Damn.

You mean the franchise people hate on because of it's success? :)

Both Halo and gears are slow paced compared to TF. I honestly don't even see how gears MP got to be of any popularity seeing as how poorly supported it was, at least in the first two entries. Halo earned it's popularity by really going the extra mile to support MP at least for a console game.

I think TF can easily surpass both those games in terms of popularity since people like faster paced games and it has unique things for both new and old fps players. Even an old school fps player like myself who experienced great games like unreal/quake/CS is excited because it appears to be creating a hybrid of many styles of game play that all work together.
