how does the duty finder suck so much with a pool of 230,000 users to choose from?

Because the "good" tank and healers clear it and never go again, while all the bad people pile up on the story dungeons, increasing your odds of a bad group.

I've seen some people mention it, but has there been any official word on a PS4 release? That would be pretty nice.

They said sometime next year, probably late spring/summer.

I like FATES because it keeps the world active and alive but I really, really wish there were other routes of leveling.

If they nerf fates though it will hurt them just like how folks stopped doing Rift events in Rift or events in gw2. They got to keep incentives. Fates though probably should have more unique rewards than just xp.

Three days I can't play because of these issues. Wasted probably 3-4 hours across three days.

I'm to the point of uninstalling and coming back in a few months. This is unacceptable a week after launch.

I don't mind FATEs as the main leveling content. Played as they are though, FATEs are really dumb. The most brain-dead videogame content I've played in years - if you could even call it playable, since it breaks the combat system into a challenge of targetting names and hitting a single button (if you don't have a character-centered AoE, then it is just the button). FFXI's Besieged rarely got this bad (though lag is another story). Way dumber than, say, Dynasty Warriors or something like that. I never really liked the idea: you can't make content where bad players have a negative effect on the battle or else players will become very frustrated by invading noobs. That greatly limits design (which they welcome with open arms since party play is "stressful", except when it isn't and they make dungeons mandatory). I thought they could make it work if they tried, but they didn't. I don't see this getting much better when serious FCs try to take down Behemoth and whatnot. Like they really need 100+ useless fodder, lagging things up.

I think people only find it "fun" because they get a kick from seeing big EXP numbers. It is empty calories though. I could see it negatively affecting experiences in subtle ways. Expectations of progression being one of them - just like certain type exp parties in FFXI just about killed slower methods of gaining EXP. Which is really bad if they remain as stupid as they are.

Although I'm not trying to cut the game any slack for login issues, the very basis of this article is one guy being frustrated to point of using hyperbole. Very Kotaku of them.

Check the OP. (It is a Blue Gartr thread.)

Well at least they said it was a highly polished gem.

Asking multiple linkshells and even shouting in zones is preferable to duty finder. You get what you are asking for with it. It should be a last resort.

EDIT: The event is live? Hmmm.

I would totally do this if there was more incentive like more exp/gil/seals to go along with it.

FATE stuff.

These words remind me of the launch of Guild Wars 2 where the Open World Events were all the rage and practically a majority of the content and way to level up. It was braindead with large groups and basically impossible to solo.
Also, it's annoying cause no place in the world feels adventurous or mysterious, as there is always stuff happening everywhere. Also, text pop ups, all the time.
It's weird, I'll have to get used to that.

Armors look nice

This is my main concern. It's great for a small kick but it doesn't have any feeling of accomplishment, my friends and I were basically just gawking at how I can sit next to the spawn for multi-mob FATEs, hit Holy once and we'd all get Gold and move onto the next while the blob of players are still hacking away.

I just really want the dungeons to be worth something. They're a great challenge for a PUG and even a decent romp for my group of MMO experienced friends. But when FATEs are easier and more rewarding it keeps the queue from populating, discourages lesser skilled players from even bothering and forces me to just sit around Mor Dhona so I can move onto the next bit of meaty content. I've got nothing against working for the next bit of story, I just wish I was actually working toward it.

I think the biggest problem isn't these events themselves, but how ubiquitous they are. In GW2 they were advertised as these world changing events, when in reality they were merely whack-a-mole events.

Pretty much the same thing here in FF14, but I'm more forgiving because a) I don't think they were as heavily emphasized as GW2, and b) the core game is better.

I might get the PS4 version too if it comes in the Collector's Edition.

I'm definitely getting the PS4 version. I have PS3 and PC right now and it's very cool to be able to switch back and forth. Last night I went from my PC to my bedroom and booted up the PS3 and continued where I left off =D

PS3 version just looks like crap and is slow compared to PC

Leves are FANTASTIC for Gathering jobs but it's like they forgot to make it relevant for anyone else. I am saving every single Leve I get for Botany because it actually feels like a privilege to use due to all the extra exp.

I still feel like making dungeons the best place to get gear as well as exp might be a bad idea, but considering the alternative is FATE grinding, maybe wanting people in the queue for dungeons while FATE farming would not be a problem.

Pretty much. I liked FATE's until about level 35 and then it started to get dumb. Now 40 + you see nothing but retarded FATE zerg parties who clump up in a town and stare at the map until fates spawn, and then that train bolts. The times a FATE spawned near me in the highlands and suddenly I would see nothing but an endless 40+ player train running into it and turning it into a mess. I don't blame them since it's the best way to level up, but I have NO idea how people claim it's actually fun. They don't even scale for pity sake.

Whats even worse is Yoishi P not having any plans to address this unless people cry about it in the coming months. I mean SE must of really thought no more than 100 people would play this game. These FATES at endgame have brought up the good ol "culling" issue that plagued Guild Wars, and knowing good backwards SE you know for a fact you probably wont even hear anything about it for months.

Yeah, the scoring system for FATEs is too dumb. I believe they did a lot of work with FFXI's Campaign content to make it work on some level. I'll say it once again: they need to look at FFXI.

Funny anecdote before I forget again: In the middle of helping someone do Brayflox's Longstop as a tank, a spider literally fell from my ceiling and landed in between me and my keyboard. Thank god I was playing on my controller. It was also in the middle of a sub-boss fight. Hard mode dungeons, baby. After finishing it in a sloppy fashion, I had to AFK for 5 mins to look for the thing and kill it. I wonder if the party thought I was lying.

That feel when you try to log on for 4 hours get in queue and get 1017. And at the same time ur friend who just woke up says he got in with no queue first try.

The dungeons need to reward more XP, and they should really reconsider the loot system. Far too many times have we opened chests to get tin pieces, or killed the final boss to get a weapon drop for a class/job that isn't in the group.

That said, Fates could be a bit more interesting if they would make them scale up farther and actually put some interesting ideas into them aside from "kill assloads of X until the bar fills up" and "kill this boss mob that does nothing but attack one target and do an occasional AoE/Cleave."

The issue is that MMO players always take the path of least resistance. In this case for leveling that would be Fates which also happen to be a good source of Seals. They have to make it so people will want to do Fates, Dungeons, Leves, Hests, Quests, etc, not just one and only one.

Yeah, I can't be too mad since I love SE and want this game to be successful. Sucks for now, but for something I'll be playing for years, this is just a tiny blip that I'll laugh about in a few months. I just hope it doesn't have a lasting impact on new people playing.

Yeah, I hope so too. It is frustrating, if understandable. Fact is, there just isn't much we can do but wait.

just being in game with this amount of people running around is kinda crazy, even for launch period. the only time I'm ever alone is in the Inn. then there's the GAF members, almost always one on screen.

FATEs can be a little annoying, I don't mind running with a party, but man, when it gets to be 24+ people all tossing aoes it doesn't feel like much fun at all. I prefer the big boss monsters, at least they are around for a couple of minutes.

Have the NA/EU login servers really been down for the past like 4 hours or so or have I just been checking at the worst possible times?

I really hate FATEs. As a white mage, I have very little to actually do. I can't charge up a stone 2 before an enemy dies, I can't heal people effectively unless I'm in a group, but frankly people rarely need healing unless it's something like Svara. Best I can do is get aero on as many targets as I can and pray. It's so, so awful.

I'm getting 1017's as soon as I hit start now. I'm not even getting to click my character to enter anymore lol

Leves are FANTASTIC for Gathering jobs but it's like they forgot to make it relevant for anyone else. I am saving every single Leve I get for Botany because it actually feels like a privilege to use due to all the extra exp.

I think the Leve system's just as bad in regards to balance. I've utterly fucked up leveling my gathering classes because I used up all my fates early on and there's no other way to level your gathering efficiently. I really wish they let you run an unlimited number or made gathering less tedious to level outside of Leves.

Yes, at the very least, they should be AoE machines. Keep people thinking. I also feel like they should have shakier enmity to make one tank running the show less common.

Actually one general mechanic I've been thinking about is having enmity drop slightly whenever the main target dodges an AoE attack. Ideally, players will have to choose between taking damage/status effect or losing some enmity they would have to recover (of course it won't always be a reasonable choice and maybe the enmity lost should reflect that). But that's just my fan-fiction (something I can't help but generate in my head while playing).

Yet another area Besieged and (especially) Campaign > FATEs.

If you don't have a group it sucks, not even worth doing FATES as a healer.

I completely agree. There are quests that give the same xp and even better rewards that can be finished in less than a minute literally, and the dungeon quests give the same exp and no bonus loot except for what you find in dungeons, and the system is so archaic it's very odd. I hope they improve it, dungeons aren't really worth it right now

The game looks pretty promising. Has there been an announcement of a potential release date and how long they will keep this beta going?

Haha, that reminds me of the bat that decided to visit my room during a BCNM 40 run in FFXI (I was the BRD of course). Wedged itself in bewteen my air conditioner and window to squeeze through so it wasn't getting out the way it came. I just gave up my orb's contents for the person i messed up on later, but it took the better part of an hour to contain it and get it outside. I'm still not sure if they believed me...

Yep, it really sucks as a White Mage, though I found out that simply castign regen on as many targets as you can will give you plenty of threat, claims mobs to you and let you get gold at the end of a fate. I haven't tried it on Cancer yet though.
