Heh, it's kinda a Skill meant for very specific situations. Thing is, a lot of players are of the attitude that, every skill must be meant to be used frequently. This seems to be especially true for people that're new to the MMO genre, like myself.

provoke is mostly used for me when a healer crits and a dude runs off to them. just provoke them, fast blade, to herd the sheep back.

haven't really found too much of a use for shield bash/swipe yet. bash being a gcd skill is quite annoying. I don't think swipe breaks combo, so that could be thrown in your enmity combo...

hmmmm...

I think part of the issue is the number of skills, but also it's on the player to read and check out what the skill does in conjunction with other skills that you have and how mobs react to it. Some are more self explanatory than others, but one of the reasons why the early dungeons are so easy (imo) is so you have the option to mess up a bit and still not wipe. By the time you hit your job, you should have a pretty firm grasp on what to do and when, at least, I'd hope most players were at the stage. I've been proven wrong though.

By the time players grind enough to have provoke, most would. A couple players however, will undoubtedly bungle their way through despite not learning. Sadly, you'll have some of that no matter how well you set up your learning curve.

Man, I have been getting 90000 errors all day. Play for 20 minutes, 90000'd out, then spend the next hour trying to log in. It's been a super productive day.

Can't Shield Bash be used to cancel AoE attacks?

I haven't even been able to play this game since last Wednesday.

I have work off tomorrow, I might buy some energy drinks and try to stay up until like 4am or whatever to get some game time in. Fucking ridiculous.

You know about the server revamp maintenance right?

Experiences with the duty finder as a dps have been a mixed bag for sure. Sadly, my experiences with the FC have been zero. I don't believe I've been able to group with anyone in the FC. Ever. =/

5 days now and still can't get a Dhorme Chimera party invite. Sucks that groups won't take certain classes because they will only take two healers and two bards...

I still need the item with the two material in it. If it's prohibitively expensive, I may have to forego getting a relic weapon until I level up the appropriate craft or find someone who will do it on the cheap. That weapon sure does look pretty awesome though.

Damn I need to snag provoke, didn't realize it put you back ontop of the hate chain. Need it for when I go down and get ressed.

This might seem like a dumb thing to say because of all the server issues but you might want to look at your internet connection too. 90000 will happen if you lose connection on your end as well. If youre getting them all day long, you might have an issue on your end.

For rounding up spread-out mobs on the pull, I'll use Tomahawk because it's reliable for that. For getting stray mobs back, it's hit or miss. That's when Provoke will get the enemy to turn back to you whereas Tomahawk might not.

I don't see why not as long as you're quick and the enemy isn't fully resistant to stuns. Although I feel as if the stun doesn't apply immediately.

I seem to recall using Shield Bash to that effect during Phase 3, in Brayflox. You do indeed have to be fast, though one advantage you have over the Warriors own stun attack, is that Shield Bash can theoretically be used back to back.

Most of the people in the Sargatanas FC are all way, way ahead of me so I have to rely on the DF or people sitting at the entrance of dungeons...

Hit 50 and did the last story dungeon on my WHM last night. First thing typed out in the group was a guy saying to skip all cutscenes and youtube them later. I then proceeded to watch all the cutscenes, because fuck it I worked my ass off to get to that point, and the story is pretty good. They then would start each boss with me still viewing the cutscenes. It was pretty funny, they beat the first one with one healer, then would wipe the first time on each other boss, then I would be in for the second attempt and we would clear it. It was just hilarious, because for all the bitching about me watching the scenes, they made it take even longer due to the refusal to wait on a 30 second scene. The majority of the people had no issue and were really cool about it, it was just the tank insta pulling every boss, but we cleared it at least. Like I would want to watch cutscenes with someone else's character. No thanks.

You can watch the scenes again from an inn, but first time through should mean you could watch cutscenes and not worry about the party. Plus, for the final dungeon, it's really awesome not just to see your character, but all of your teammates in most of the scenes. Felt pretty epic.

Wait so provoke doesnt build on enmity?

Just assumed it worked like XI.

It just puts you at the top of the enmity stack. Say the healer has 1000 enmity, you use provoke and have 1001 enmity. It's easy to stay on top as long as you add in an additional enmity ability or attack on top of it. It's basically in case that a mob pulls away and tries to hate on someone else instead of you.

What's your name in the game?

In the FC I'm Arshe Rose. Outside of the FC, it's Brave Fist. I couldn't resist making another Roe.

I'm DPS anyway, so its to be expected. =P We're a dime a dozen any way you slice it!

I don't know if I've ever seen you talk. If you want to group, I'll gladly do so. My name is Tiv Einsfell, WHM.

Exactly! And I had been told that some of the scenes from the final dungeon were actually not viewable in the inn room. I didn't want to risk it haha.

I definitely have no patience for people telling others to skip cutscenes. That's really rude and the scenes don't take THAT long.

Level 42 PLD.

Cleared everything -- dungeons, primals, and hests -- up to and including Stone Vigil with full PUGs using Duty Finder.

Never had any problems. Wiped a handful of times in total.

Some randoms have been good, others not so good, but no one has been so bad that they could not be carried by three others. In the later dungeons, there was usually at least one person that knew the content, so we weren't going in blind, and I attribute the lack of wipes to that too, as actually attempting new content blind would understandably have been the source of many wipes.

Probably a silly question but whats with the A B C D E etc after the name of the mobs im killing?

From what I can tell, theyre just markings so that its easier for a party to coordinate. "Attack monster L" and whatnot. Or you can just use the mark symbols, which are 100x better because theyre big and you can click them to target the marked enemy.

They are split between two different sections in the inn. It's weird, but similar as the previous level 50 dungeon in how they split them. They do have all of them in their, but it doesn't include the other party members and feels a bit weird when it's just your character going up against some of the bosses. While badass, my WHM would never be able to solo any of these guys.

Oh no, I talk. lol

However, while a lot of people went full force with one class to 50, I stopped and lvled everything (everyone.gif) to 15+ before moving on with LNC.

I had the weirdest glitch yesterday. My group had wiped to HM Ifrit and after the fight reset, my sound had just cut out and my character looked like it was stuck in mid-animation, floating in the air.
When we started the fight, none of my abilities would go off and everyone was just gliding around, even Ifrit. And it looked like Ifrit was teleporting when he did his charges. Eventually I died but then I was just stuck on a black loading screen.
I really did not want to Alt+F4, too afraid that I wouldn't be able to get back in. But much to my amazement, I was able to get in on my first try.

Hmm, maybe. The big difference today was switching from the PS3 to the PC so I could get other stuff done while I mindlessly tapped A, so maybe my laptop is dropping connections on me.

It's just so easy to blame the game though.

By the way PS3 players, and I feel like a dope for just finding it out yesterday, but in case you didn't know you can hold L1 + Start to take pictures in the game.

99% of the people likely know this, but for that 1%...

Oh thanks, that's really good to know. It was honestly the first rude guy I had come across, and I have done all the duty content including all the optional runs. I mean I know that people are farming these, but it's really SE's fault for making such a cutscene laden run. It's really awesome to experience, but obviously people like this are going to be a real hinderance to the bulk of the playerbase as they hit that point.

Do the later dungeons not block you from starting until everyone is out of the cutscene? I thought that was how it worked in the early dungeons anyway.

Was a system implemented in FFXII. It's basically different ways of naming monsters. Mandragora A, B, C, until you go all the way through the alphabet, then it goes back to A.

Ahh brilliant, cheers!

And one more stupid question.

Battle gear and Field gear.

Whats the difference?

I'm also level 42, WAR. I've gotten all the way through Titan and only one wipe - in Brayflox when our (quite attentive and excellent) pugged healer disconnected on us while fighting the dragon. That's it. That's the benefit of having experienced players with you.. even if you're going in blind, once you've played these games for long enough you have a lot of latent knowledge to draw on.

Battle gear is what you wear in battle. Field gear is worn for Discipline of the Hand and Land.

Edit: Battle Gear actually gives you +1 to stats, while Field gear gives you increases to Mining, Crafting, weaving, Control, etc.
