Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

The Polygon article about the missing Rayman Legends content says, "We have contacted Ubisoft; however the publisher has declined to comment until later today." Maybe we'll finally find out what is going on.

I hope Vita gets on the GOOD (non-mobile game style) CCG train soon. Culdcept would be amazing, but there's gotta be an indie out there to get SCEA's attention...Card Hunter might be possible, but they're already set up as a browser game with their own currency system (F2P). With Hearthstone set to blow shit up with the Blizzard crowd, I think card games are set for a lil revival in the mainstream gaming world.

Is it correct that the PS logo flashes on and off blue when in sleep mode? I assume that's what it's telling me anyway? :)

Will be interesting to see a) how long the battery lasts and b) how long it can sleep for. Neither are particularly good on my 3DS XL.

HAHAHA... from thesixthaxis review of Killzone: Mercenary:

What’s Bad:
Story loses momentum at points, though soon picks back up again.
There are only six multiplayer maps.
It’s only available for Vita.

wow. that comes off as a bit of an insult. however, they love the game:

10/10; "This isn’t just a game you need to buy if you own a Vita, this is the game you buy a Vita for."

a) is similar
b) is weeks better ;)

And yeah it's correct - my guess is that the light sygnalises console connecting to network to upload/download near data but it never got confirmed

DA FUQ? I YAM INSULTED! I'm soooo e-mailing them to ask them to remove that comment!

Can anyone in EU who has digital Killzone: Mercenary and has downloaded everything, including patch, confirm the final file size of the install after the update is processed?

to be fair, TSA review is one of the better reviews so far and I'm not saying this because of the score. The reviewer understands that this is a 'handheld' and that the game should be reviewed with that in mind. I feel reviewers tend to do it for smartphone games oddly enough. But not for vita titles..

I saw the quote from EGM in metacritic for KZ Merc and I facepalmed in real life. A great example of why review system is so broken in the gaming industry

Why be insulted? They didn't actually hold it against the game (10/10).
I suppose a better way of saying it would be "It's a shame only Vita owners get to experience it" or something. Not that I agree.

It still comes off badly; it's just such a douchebag thing to say. If they reviewed something like Luigi's Mansion 2, would they say "What's Bad: It's on 3DS." I really doubt it.
It's a good review all around, though the part I wanted to know (what exactly the patch added/was for) wasn't in there as promised.

I saw somewhere that Japan was getting a patch for Dragon's Crown -- I wonder if we're getting it and when...

I voiced my disagreement & disgust on the comments section of the review.

It's like saying Mario is bad cause it's only available on Nintendo. WTF.

so I just saw the scan for Mato Kurenai Yuugekitai for PS3/Vita. I like the art, what kind of game is it? the site I saw it from mention a scary game, so survival horror? or visual novel?

now that Sony have dedicated team for third party production including localization and port jobs, should we ask them to localize this?

sure... if the game sold well and Sony didn't just feel like killing Cambridge like how they killed Zipper and Liverpool and left U13 and Wipeout 2048 without post release support.

But most Liverpool employees went to Evolution studios, right? Both make arcade racers, so it was (from a financial point) put both together. Less infranestructure costs and that kind of things. Nothing to say about Zipper (T.T)

Holy shit, was so not expecting to get this so soon considering it only just shipped from NZ on Monday~

I. Want. Dat. Sackboy. T.T

I've always want a Sackboy plushie. It's soooo adorable.

There are some reviewers that seems to be lowering games' score because the game is on Vita. It's sad. Graphics are stunning, SP has a good replayability and MP is fun. It has 6 maps and 3/4 modes, what is okay for a handheld title. It's more than the 5-7 some people are giving them. Specially when people see less than and 8 and consider a game is crap (although it shouldn't be like that)

And I think (hope) GC may release new maps / modes for free a la SS DLCs. It could a lot more value to the game.

I just played the first two missions, assuming the quality doesn't drop immensely later - I don't get the reviews with average scores. Killzone is a pretty good FPS compared to the competition on all platforms. Taking into account that this game is running on a handheld, it's quite the achievement.

If you like FPS, just get it.

Liverpool was making great games with good quality which didn't sell
Zipper was making sales flops with average at most quality

Finally started my PS Plus copy of Rayman Origins last night. Wow, it looks amazing and controls like a dream. I did initially find some of the level objectives a bit confusing - I prefer slightly more straightforward platformers like Mario, but I do think I'm going to stick with it.

Then I'll probably get Rayman Legends.

I find myself not having as much time to play games these days, but I can imagine getting through Rayman in short bursts.

Wipeout is great. But is one of those games that I wouldn't play if it wasn't on Plus. Unit 13 is average, for what i've read. But it was a Vita studio. It's sad to see a Vita studio closing.

Sony really needs more Vita studios. I would be very happy if we had: Bend, Media Molecule, GC (I hope KZ:M sells +1million), at least 2/3 Japan teams, and one small team from Evolution and Sucker Punch. With this we will have at least 3 or 4 Sony games every year.

By they way, i've been looking at that Oreshika game. Love the PSP art style, I want to see the sequel localized. I seriously love everything with that classic japanese art style. Loved Nurarihyon no Mago manga because it's drawing style.

Try to play the speed-runs. You have to play the games much more straightforwardly that way and they really give a whole new dimension to the levels.

I've finished the first... what would you call it, world? Area? and at the end, I was getting through the levels quite quickly rather than looking for secret passages, etc. I was probably having more fun being a bit more methodical, though.

Up on european webstores:

Killzone Mercenary - €34,99 - 3,3Gb
Atelier Meruru Plus - €39,99 - 3Gb -The game comes with some free DLC if you buy it before October 1st
The Walking Dead Season One - €19,99 - 2,3Gb

As usual I recommand to wait a little before to buy them in case where some PS+ discounts are coming.

Oh okay.

Although I do not get why if you are australian, you would like to subject youself to Australian prices. You can buy US PSN credits online with no additional charge, and the system is region free. Seems to me the price markup on games is not worth it.
I used to do that because I have so much tied to my Australian account and didn't want to make a new one with a new e-mail and other details I'd eventually forget, but I did it the other week and no regrets for PS3 software. I usually have enough for a new release and change to spare for a smaller/older release on PSN due to no markups.

With that said though my Vita account is tied to my Australian one and I'm left in a bit of a problem where I've already got software on there and can't account switch, so I just stick to that for crossbuy stuff and other software that is cheap.

As for retail software here I almost always import unless I want to get the software day one or the price isn't that bad and I don't want to deal with shipping costs. But Vita software really really has been the exception to our retail software being high, the multiple price tiers allows for Vita games to not be stuck at 60/70 dollars here (which Nintendo Australia have set in place as the standard for 3DS software here) and be kept at a very low and decent price for our market so I'll happily support local Vita software sales if it's at a nice price.

I'm not at all a fan of when reviewers use platform choice as a con in a review, it shouldn't be there unless it affects the gameplay/framerate in a negative way. (imo) Judging from the way he/she wrote that that isn't the case.

Well, there's a difference in trying to go for that gold medal vs. not going for that but still mostly running through a level. Try one of the speedruns. They aren't that hard at first but they'll get harder as you go forward in the game.

As I said, Rayman Origins can be played in two different ways (and it's great at both). Either trying to find all those secrets & stuff or trying to go through them as fast as possible. It's almost fundamentally two different games, yet played in the same levels (which is a testament to the genius level design).

Elminage Original is up too, but like Sweet Fuse last week, it's PSP only. Come on, I can understand some old games being not Vita compatible, but new releases? That really sucks.

I'll have to try them.

When going back and trying to do everything in the levels... what are the criteria. It looks like there's 3 marks (smiley face things?) in most levels for opening the cages, one for time, and another 2-3 for collecting other animal things along the way? Sorry, I don't yet know what everything is called.

Can I mix and match in each run... for example, do it really quick to just get the time one... does it stack or do you need to do it all at once?

I'm in a weird holding pattern this week where I want to play my Vita, but all I want to play is Killzone. Since it ain't out until Friday, this is sort of problematic.

Ah well, only a couple more days to go!

So.. what exactly does Meruru+ have over the console version? Gameplay wise, I mean.

It's the normal game with every DLC the original has included. Like a "GOTY" version but in another platform.

I think most of the DLCs were stuff like costumes, so it's basically the same game. But it's on "dat OLED" and is portable! Turn based RPGs fit sooo well in handheld machines...

According to wikipedia:

A PlayStation Vita re-release, titled Atelier Meruru Plus: The Alchemist of Arland 3 was announced in January 2013. It features new scenes, costumes, areas, and boss enemies, as well as connectivity with the Vita release of Atelier Totori. Consumable items and enemy difficulty will be rebalanced to create a more enjoyable gameplay experience. Unlike Atelier Totori Plus, it features costumes for characters other than the player character, as well as a costume store than can be built over the course of the storyline.

Hmm, so nothing special, then.

Personally I'm one of the few people that prefer turn based, mostly JRPGs, on a home console. I played the entirety of P4G in my bed, so portability doesn't even come into it for me.

I still need to finish the PS3 version of Totori.. oh well..

Edit: New page ninja'd.

Additionally, if you keep your save data for Atelier Totori Plus, you will unlock new costumes for Totori in Atelier Meruru. If the save happens to be game clear data, Totori’s weapons will become more powerful.
If the player possesses a Atelier Totori Plus save data, they can unlock a special dress, accessory, and obtain the strongest weapon for Totori at the start of the game.
