Any tips for the GLD level 25 quest instance fight against the miqo'te?
Watch the HP bar at the top of the screen. Enemy skills show up when they try to use them. Hundred Fists has a long charge up time. When you see it pop up, use shield bash. The stun will cancel her skill.

Shield bash is an incredibly useful skill for cancelling enemy skills. This becomes extremely useful in dungeons.

Only thing I wish I had as a War.

I'm really enjoying my time so far, especially with everyone in the Free Company. This is my first MMO so I am wondering what are the basic of the basics of MMO's? I don't wanna be doing things that are considered etiquette when playing, if that makes sense. Stuff like:

  • Stop attacking when you gather too much threat.
  • Run towards the tank if you do gather too much threat.
  • Attack the tank's target.

I get stuff like that, but if there any other tips like that that I should consider, it'd be handy to know!

Fellow Sargatanas folks, I applied to the linkshell on the necessary site. The app was accepted, but I'm not sure what to do from there to actually get in.

Thanks!

This game looks insane on PC. This is with a combination of a whole shitload of SweetFX tweaks, SMAA (fuck that FXAA bullshit, turn that shit off!), and downsampling from 3840x2160.

9682948918_8c1b5e5c4b_o.png

Quoting it to be nice, but it has to be seen in fullscreen to be appreciated.

Can folks create on Ultros yet?

I couldn't last night and made my character on Leviathan, but will try again tonight. I really like that I can save my appearance and just copy my created character to other servers (at level 1 of course).

What kind of framerate do you get with that?
At the 3840x2160 it's 5-10fps, haha.

Switch back to 1080p, Borderless Fullscreen after the screenshot is done to play the game. I seem to have magically fixed some of the stuttering I was having, this morning. Think it was one of those external monitoring programs that I always forget I have running in the background, tons of stupid diagnostic programs and shit like Raptr, EVGA Precision X, etc etc etc.

I think it was actually the RivaTuner Statistic Server that was fucking it up.

Mother of god. I need to attempt this, is there a preset or something I can use for SweetFX? Never used it in my life. Always just tweak it through the nVidia drivers. But I can't stand the weirdness that is FXAA. I'd love to see how well my 780GTX could handle downsampling and SMAA.

Where do I download that from?

I got it from here once: http://www.excessum-gaming.com/foru...ake-your-games-look-lot-better/post/last#last But it didn't work, I might have placed it in the wrong place.

Your 780 would destroy this game.

These are my SweetFX settings: http://pastebin.com/RPPhKDCG
You can copy the raw Paste Data into the SweetFx_settings.txt file.

Download SweetFX from here, if you haven't already: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/sweetfx_shader_suite_download.html
SweetFX needs to be installed in both the /boot/ and the /game/ folders, for some reason.

Awesome, thanks! I'm gonna set this up after work!

Wouldnt it be a Tonberry lantern?

Why do I torture myself by coming into this thread when I dont have the game..

Good point, I just noticed it's belted on so similarly to Dragon's Dogma lanterns. Tonberry's typically carry theirs around. I could have just played way too much Dragon's Dogma though, haha.

Anyone know when Legacy members will be charged for the first time?

As much as I love having free game-time I want my 90 day vet rewards badly....

would love for someone with ps3 version to take a screenie from a similar position for direct comparison.

not to hate consoles, just curious :)
I could probably turn off SweetFX, drop all the settings down a notch or so, and render at 720p and it would probably be similar.

Pretty sure the PS3 takes compressed JPG shots, my shot is an uncompressed PNG. Wouldn't be a fair comparison.

So if I want to take up a crafting job, it'd be best to first get a gathering job? Would I want to level up the gathering job up to 50 first before doing crafting? Or should I do them both together?

Leveling gatherers sounds like a pain.

Just did the Halatali dungeon and it's brought up something that kind of irks me:

I know overleveled people get synch'd back to the optimum level but holy shit the dps classes still wreck shit. Every boss in there has hp-based phases and we were just trucking through them. Like the second boss, by the time I'd pulled him back to the ramp he'd be running off to summon his adds again. Also pretty sweet to get like 1000 flame seals towards my chocobo. I bought the GLA sword first instead because I was sick of using a dagger.

The sword was still just a dagger

Oh well, grind some fates for the other 1k and call it a night.

I love this game.

I dunno if it's "better" but it's what I'm doing. Leveling Miner then I'm going to take all the smithing classes to 50.

I'd do them together, so you don't get bored (gathering can be a chore)

If you're patient about getting materials cheap on the market, you can do it without leveling a gathering profession. but you'l need to sell stuff back to keep afloat. I did my 30-50 Goldsmith without leveling gathering to the appropriate levels so it's possible.

Try to figure out HQing items and turning them in for levels if you can.

49-50 is like 500k XP and I got all of it in 5 leves because of the HQ items I made. 100k a pop, so good.

god i hated that it wasn't until like lvl 25ish that you get an actual sword ass sword.

I want my ninjas with the daggers, not my tank.

I'm probably going about it in the wrong manner, but I learned all of the gathering/crafting classes yesterday. I don't know if I'll get them all to level 50, since I primarily plan on playing as a Black Mage so the Blacksmith/Armorer/etc. classes don't really benefit me.

At the very least, I've decided to work on my Mining, Goldsmithing, Botany, and Weaving to help him out. I'll work on Fishing/Culinary on-the-side since I think it will have a pretty substantial impact later on [I know it did in World of Warcraft when you could craft certain stat-increasing food]. As for Leatherworking, Blacksmith, Armorsmith, Carpentry, etc., I'll likely focus on those later in the game when I have nothing to do.

Basically focus on the gathering/crafting class that will benefit your class. Beyond that, do whatever.

Edit - I also got my Archer to Level 8 [working towards 15 for Black Mage] and my Thaumaturge to Level 25. On top of that, I got my Chocobo! It was a pretty productive/tiring day.

Why the blur? Sorry if it's a stupid question, never used SweetFX.
I actually don't know, I just turned it on, and then decided whether or not I liked the effect by constantly switching SweetFX on and off and seeing which image I liked better. (F12 key)

Liked it better with the Gaussian.

That's more or less how I learn SweetFX, I just fuck with settings and then compare the difference. Most of the shit I still don't know what it does or how to use it properly, it's a complicated tool.

How do you even level gatherers efficiently? I have a vague idea of leveling crafters (turning in HQ crafted stuff for the best XP) so would you turn in HQ gathered materials or what.

I've heard Tradecraft Leves [and using HQ ingredients] helps a lot.

I click buttons during this and wow. I cleared bwl I'm vanilla and was on heroic firelands, so I don't think I'm terribad

What is this?

I hope to group with you to cause you some rage

Maybe I should've waited until I got home to post that, I saw someone post something about it a couple pages back and I had to get in there. Anyway, personally I didint mean the tone of my message to sound elitist. It's just common opinion that all your skills should be keybinded, if only because its a lot faster than mousing over to click a skill in the middle of a fight. Some people do it and that's fine, if it works for you with no troubles, even better, but you should definitely try to bind your abilities. I saw a few posts about some people not being able to reach past 6 on their keys. That's where modifiers come in. Re-map those keys from 6 and onwards to crtl or alt or shift. This lets you use 1 through 6 3 times, depending on the modifier used. It's much faster than clicking, and again if clicking works/is better for you, cool. I certainly won't rage at anyone who does it lol, but key binding is definitely better. I uses to click too.

Now keyboard turners... That's a different story, but that argument is only relevant for PvP I think.

Anyway, apologies.
