Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Was Project Diva F in the west a ps3 only release? Hadn't been paying much attention but was looking to get it for my Vita only to notice it wasn't on PSN.

16gb is fine. If you are playing more than 5 games at any given period you are doing it wrong anyway.

But What about those of us that want to flick from game to game, as and when we please like we can do with a ipod/ipad etc?

I can carry hundreds of books on my kindle yet will probably read no more than 3 at the same time
Have 10,000 songs on mp3 player all at once
Store lots of games on my ps3 with up to 1tb HDD if i wanted

I like to have a choice and be able to chose a game as quick as poss, if i had to wait and install and patch every time i picked up a game id prob not end up playing it by the time it was done.

And yes i am from the C64 era where i had to wait days (not really) for a game to load, its got to be said a lot of the time back then, id go outside to have a kick around with a football and by the time the game loaded i was bored and too busy with my football (instant play, instant gratification)

Films too, god the dvds or all the blurays with all those warnings, trailers etc before the film that you cant skip ugh.

Thats why music became my favourite hobby over video games and films for sometime

Put in cd press play and go, no ads, no bullshit, no need to rewind first, same as a vinyl record, drop the needle and play.

Just ordered a second 32gb card.
It was 'used' so it was a bit cheaper after promo at GS. $52.xx

Unless someone puts out an adapter for the card slot so you can put a 2nd card in the system, I refuse to do this. Jugging cards is enough hassle as it is. I'm not going to juggle tiny memory cards.

I agree with you completely.

I delete games when I'm done with them. Assassin's Creed III Liberation, P4G, Dokuro, Velocity Ultra -- all these have been cleared off my card after getting the platinum. But what about games you play with your friends, or games that don't really have a beginning or end? I have Lumines on my card. I keep LBP Vita on my card. I keep Soul Sacrifice on my card. The list goes on and on and on. Fighting games like UMvC3, SFxT, DoA5+, Blazblue:CS2E, MK9 -- you can pick up and play at any time... there's no reason you should ever have to delete those. I own all those fighters and that's pretty much a 16gb card right there, yet I've had to delete them cause I'm out of space. Dragon's Crown? Spelunky? Those are games that can stay on perpetually too. Anything with leaderboards and no finite beginning or end fits this. Add in sales and games from other platforms (Capcom Classics Collections on PSP, etc.).

Hell, I finally caved on my 100% digital (which I achieved when Blazblue:CS2E went on PS+ and I sold my physical copy... I had to buy Killzone physically... I just could not dedicate over 1/8th of my memory card to that game... and since I expect it to have my attention and believe I will play it for a long time to come, I just can't spare 4.6gb of my 29gb card.

I agree you don't need every single game like Gravity Rush and Uncharted on your card. Finish them and delete them.
But there's a ton of games that offer pick up and play content that people are willing to pay for the convenience of storing on their device. Swapping memory cards is just silly and Sony should really offer bigger more reasonably priced media and fix the bubble/icon limit already.
And while they're at it, but I'm dreaming here, they should "Steam up" the interface. I would kill to have the ability to view my library and just select a game I want to install... it would make deleting and restoring stuff from your limited card space much easier and more intuitive instead of having to figure out the best way to go find that game buried 723 items deep on your download list for re-download.

my cat kicked my Mountain dew which was kinda near my Vita and Phantom lapboard, and luckily nothing happened (well the table is full of pure sugar now).

we need a waterproof Vita like the new Xperia phones.

If Vita was as popular as the 3DS or even PSP Sony might invest into a new model that was better than the last one. Instead though, the new model will probably be shittier than what we have now in order to save money.

That's strange, because the 3DS is as popular as the 3DS, and Nintendo is putting out a shittier version of what we have now in order to save money.

Yeah well that's nintendo for ya. Though to be honest in the DS era the models actually got better as time went on.

edit 3: i posted this in the dragons crown OT - but i'm not sure how great of a response i'll get.... i want to get dragons crown on vita, but i finally tried the game out ( on ps3) and it seems like a lot of the beauty of the game will get lost on vita. it seems like even 1 player will be a clusterfck on the vita screen no matter the size and glory of the OLED. so which version should i get?? esp if i plan to mainly play 1 player.
I picked up the ps3 version after putting about 20 hours on the Vita version. I *was* admittedly blown away at the quality of the art that I hadn't seen before. I put a bunch more time on the ps3 version after that. That being said,, I would much rather play it on the Vita. It's the same game, aside from the local play. The slowdown fits the genre, in my opinion, so I welcome it. Being able to "pause" it anywhere, and tale it with you anywhere is a huge benefit. Plus, you can play with us Vitamuffins! I need I clear up my friend list, again, or just write down all year people I'm deleting so I can re add them all.

Eh, if you are going with the mp3/kindle analogy not even a 64gb stick would be enough for you.

Choice is always better, and more space is always better, but I think 16gb should suffice for most people. I learned that the more games I have in my memory, the less games I'll actually finish.

If any of my Vita muffins removed me from their friends list, I'd be sad :(

I do wish we had a Swapnote style 3DS app, as I currently love to draw and send a note without hassle (digging through a friends list), on that system...

Baron Von Beans, you should shoot me a request - I'll be a PSN friend!

My PSN name is found within my GAF profile thingy

Honestly I'm not even sure who is who on my friends list ..at least a good chunk of it,,is. I wish we could add details like on a phone to each friend so we know who exactly they are

I don't think so. IMO if they were going to make another AC for Vita they would use Aveline instead of making her DLC for PS3/PS4.

Aveline is only a 1 hour special character in AC4. Pirates could be the connecting game showing her adventures outside of that mission much like Connor showed up in AC:L if you linked it with AC3

So done 3 missions on veteran and about 6-7 online games on killzone (while listerning to music unlimited) and damn this game is so good. Still can't believe how good it looks and smooth it runs. Only thing I hate is that drone but I'm sure as people get better they will shoot them down faster.

Love the design of the campaign as well. Not only can you be stealthy or guns blazin you have three other versions of each one when your done. Adds up to a fairly large amount of offline content.

Vita has been needing this game. Really hope it gets lots of promotion.

I can't imagine those indie games are selling as many Vitas as bundling those iOS ports with an SCE game with an 8GB card alongside a Vita would.

That's an interesting idea but iOS games are massively popular because a lot of people already own iOS (or Android) devices--these potential buyers would look at this hypothetical Vita + iOS ports bundle and realize that they already own or could own those games on their phone or tablet for a modest amount of cash. No sale.

Indie games on the other hand are popular among hardcore gamers, which is basically the only market the Vita has left. Casuals are not going to flock to the Vita ever, even if such an iOS port bundle existed. For this desirable market, the second option after a smartphone is another multi-use device like an iPod touch or a tablet. Never a Vita.

I think I've met my match with this final 8-bit remix bonus level in Rayman Legends. I'll give it a try here and there until it happens, though.

All these soul sac screens makes me wish I would have continued on with it D: I'm about 30/45 right now, but I have soooo much further to go to get my dark build I want. Problem is, I wanna play with you bretheren where you all are at! Will need to try and keep at it, maybe there will be some soul sac revivals down te way..

I'm really in need of a second card, but I figure I'll give Sony until TGS to see if any bigger sizes are on the way. If nothing is announced in the next two weeks, I'm getting at least another 8 GB card.

You have me as a friend come online.

1) We have differing opinions on what genre the music falls under. Apart from the hip-hop song near the end (Shen Yi, I think? I don't have my Vita with me, and I can't find a tracklist online -- I'm 99% sure it was the second-last song) and the Voicians track, most of it sounded pretty Linkin Park-y to me. As far as I'm concerned, sounding like Linkin Park is the definition of nu-metal. That said, if you're more into the genre(s) of music featured -- as I'm assuming you are -- you're probably going to have much narrower genre definitions than I do.

I know what you're saying about die hard fans coming up with endless subgenres, but it's really a stretch here. It's an over-broad and lazy generalization, like saying anything with a prominent synth and a drum machine is "techno."

Celldweller is much more similar to Nine Inch Nails than Linkin Park and completely lacks the rap and urban stylings that characterize nu metal. Blue Stahli is similar to Celldweller, but with punk-style guitar riffs and more screaming. Voicians is all over the place in the electronic arena but his two tracks are nowhere even close to nu metal. Pendulum has never been mistaken by anyone for nu metal, and their collaboration with In Flames incorporates traditional melodic metal, not the droning, tuneless sounds of nu metal.

Shen Yi, Styles of Beyond, and the final Pre-Fight Hype track are straight-up hip hop, though the backing guitars add a slight similarity to nu metal. The other Pre-Fight Hype track, yeah, ok, though it's a bit faster-paced and punk/arena-rockish than stereotypical nu metal. Southpaw Swagger is more hip-hop than rock, but sure, I'll give you that one.

Marilyn Manson is Industrial Metal - again, none of the rap or awww yeahhh boy aspect of nu metal. Rob Zombie is alternative/industrial metal. Again, no rap/urban elements at all, no similarity to Linkin Park other than they both have loud distorted guitars.

That leaves Papa Roach, P.O.D., and the aforementioned Pre-Fight Hype and Southpaw Swagger tracks. If there are any genres that dominate the soundtrack, it's Electro/Industrial Metal, not nu metal.

Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation
Fun running across rooftops and trees and killing unsuspecting guards but the combat itself feels janky when there's more than one enemy. Didn't mind the persona system but the story is hard to follow. Great soundtrack.

Atelier Totori Plus
Awesome JRPG. Deep crafting system and fun combat. The world seems sparse at first but more locations open up a few hours into the game. Great characters too.

BlazBlue Continuum Shift EX
Gorgeous port. Could never get an online match but so much single player content to dive into it's crazy.

Dead or Alive 5+
Slightly blurry graphics but still a great console port. Very nice story mode to try out all the characters.

Disgaea 3
Had to put this in the backlog until I have time to devote to it. The soundtrack is annoying but I guess it's an acquired taste. I like the characters though and the story seems interesting.

Dokuro
Haven't played much of this but my first impression of the graphics is positive. I like the minimal chalk-drawn look.

Dragon's Crown
A work of art. Plays pretty well too. Currently my addiction next to Muramasa.

Dynasty Warriors Next
Very nice looking and same hack-and-slash gameplay as the console iterations. Annoys me how the mooks just stand there while you kung fu them to death but the enemy officers provide a decent challenge. Haven't finished the story mode yet but so far it's great.

Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable
Very fun in co-op mode. Solo is okay but I got tired of it after a while.

Escape Plan
Had fun with this although some of the timing-based puzzles are frustrating.

Gravity Rush
Haven't gotten too far yet so I haven't encountered the control issues that people bring up. Really nice aesthetic and Kat seems like a interesting protagonist.

Guacamelee!
Very enjoyable combat and the platforming is fun once you look at it as a puzzle to solve.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva f (JP)
So damn good.

Hot Shots Golf World Invitational
Haven't gotten too deep into this game (it's difficult) but had fun playing async online matches with a friend.

Hotline Miami
Amazing soundtrack, intriguing premise and levels that play out like action-based puzzles.

Jet Set Radio
Great port. The old-school gameplay is tough but at least nothing has been dumbed down for this version.

Kyntt Underground
In my backlog for now. I like the background graphics but the characters look odd to me. Good sense of atmosphere.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
Way too easy. Put it down after the first level. Will play again someday.

Little Big Planet
Slightly soft graphics but still great looking. I don't like the floaty physics though.

Lumines Electronic Symphony
Very addicting, great soundtrack. In a pre-smartphone world I bet this would have been the Vita's killer app.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Putting this game on hold for now since I've never played any MGS games before aside from AC!D.

Mortal Kombat
Another great console port let down slightly by the character models outside of cut-scenes. So much content though and you get to rip Kratos in half so that's good.

Motorstorm RC
Got the Scion-sponsored free edition. Never found a camera view that worked for me. Controls well though and is mostly fun.

Muramasa Rebirth
One the best looking Vita games. A few hours in, the game really gets challenging and fun. (It's admittedly boring at first when the enemies are easy.)

Mutant Blobs Attack
Really great level design. Some very frustrating parts though if you're just getting back into platformers like I was when I played it.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted
Looks better in motion than it does in screenshots. People say there are frame drops but personally I haven't noticed any that bother me.

New Little King's Story
Charming aesthetics. Surprisingly it has a day-night cycle, which I like.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Too hardcore for me I guess. I like the combat well enough but the first-person camera is tough to use when you need it.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Love the idea of "live" ammo. Pretty good, just need to finish it after I'm done with my other games.

Persona 4 The Golden
Really interesting take on JRPGs. Great setting, soundtrack and cast of characters. Hated the dungeons more than Tartarus but it's worth slogging through them to Reach Out to the Truth.

Pinball Arcade
I like the tables. Feels like visiting a virtual museum.

Plants vs. Zombies
Good port but finished the game already on PC so haven't played much of it.

Pure Chess
Decent chess game that I bought since I want to learn how to play the game better.

Ragnarok Odyssey
Art direction is okay and it's nice-looking but the camera feels broken during tight battles. It was fun online though, not sure if people still play now.

Rayman Origins
Great platforming and fantastic graphics.

Retro City Rampage
Decent game with some fun to tweak graphic settings. The novelty wears out fast but it's fun in small doses.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories
I like the idea behind the game but with better titles now like Dragon's Crown and Muramasa that scratch the same itch I haven't gotten back to it yet.

Sine Mora
Nice-looking game with some interesting mechanics so it's not just a basic side-scrolling shooter.

Sly Cooper
Too easy but exploring the vast levels and collecting stuff is fun. Feels like it was made with a young audience in mind.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed
Great game that makes me feel like I'm back in the arcade. I play it more than the PC version.

Soul Sacrifice
Got tired of the combat and the lack of places to explore makes the game less interesting for me. Online is good though.

Sound Shapes
Like everyone else I finished the albums but only a handful of the Death Mode levels. I like the Beat School challenges though.

Starwars Pinball
Decent but not as interesting or as challenging as Pinball Arcade

Street Fighter X Tekken
I never found out what people dislike about this game, probably since I bought the game post-patch (and I'm not a hardcore FG player). It's a lot of fun.

Touch My Katamari
I like the trippy nature of the game. Haven't hit the DLC-is-annoying wall yet.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Very nice looking console port. Toned-down backgrounds (according to reviews) but never bothered me.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Very nice graphics. Average gameplay. Gyro-aiming is awesome.

Unit 13
Love the score-attack mentality and the levelling-up. Solid graphics and decent AI. I like that the missions are unscripted so you get to choose how to accomplish objectives.

Virtua Tennis World Tour
Flawless graphics and loads of single player content. Potentially a system seller if there was a bundle.

Wipeout 2048
Insane looking game. Difficult and tuned for the hardcore. I still pump my fist in the air after barely winning close races.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Not playing this until I finish 999.

Zombie Tycoon 2
Interesting at first but it's in my backlog for now.

Caved in and bought New Little Kings Story ^__^
I'm having a blast, the framerate isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The game feels like it runs at 30fps and drops to 20ish when I have a party with 12+.
Everyone needs to buy this game :3

I'm so terrible at Soul Sacrifice... I can't even beat the first chapter. Probably am just not getting what I'm supposed to be doing. I'll have to find the manual.. I want to like it but it's just not clicking....

I like you.

Spent 4 hrs playing yonight myself. So much content!

:D I am 3 hours in and there is so much to do. I am torn between Disgaea 3 and this now ughh, I wish I picked this up during the summer instead of during this semester :(

I feel tempted to buy the dlc pass.

edit: My first time at the top of the page.
Buy New Little Kings Story :)

I always liked LBP Vita, but I hated the low-contrast it had. Made it look so dull compared to the PS3 LBP games.

Huh, do you have your Vita brightness turned up? I never really saw the problem, but I found the game much easier to read than LBP2. There are a few filters than can up the contrast fyi.

Oooh, I hadn't heard about the missing Vita content getting patched in. Guess I know what version I'm picking up once I trim the backlog a bit.
