Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

I love it. It's a surprisingly enjoyable game, and if you have some friends to come over and play it with, it's a great party fighter. It's different than Smash Bros, which I like (I'm also a diehard Smash Bros fan). The 4 additional DLC characters are also a lot of fun to play with as well.

Yeah i decided to buy it. i only have a vita but my friends have it for ps3 so itll be fun to play with them online and stuff.

Hey, I heard Killzone Mercenary is getting mixed reviews. The hell's going on, do professional reviewers not see a good game when it's staring them in the eyes and flipping off the horde of FPS_Generic-201X/#45923843 that flood the market, or did Sony not pay off the reviewers enough?

Because I was playing the hell out of the Beta, and now I'm scratching my head as to how its great gameplay is translating into sub-7/10 reviews.

Behave - Killzone isn't THAT good.

yeah lots of people are confused.

many reviewers are comparing it to a home console quality game and taking points off for that. other reviewers have knocked it for being on vita...

its pretty messed up journalism/critiques.

nothing we can do but know better and support the game and spread the word.

i thought i've seen everything from reviewers, but this has opened my eyes even more, which i didn't think was possible.

from reading some of the reviews, most of the negatives are from the lackluster SP and how they treat it as a spinoff instead of main entry (again... SP) and doing nothing new to the old KZ online style.

Which is a Call of Duty turd and a Resistance shit.

Sure, it's better than both, but that wasn't hard.

It's weird that there are only three, the lack of FPS on a handheld designed with dual sticks is mind-boggling, when Sony announced it I though it's be filled with FPS (and shooters), but we don't even get the old/retro ones on it.

But isn't Duke Nukem 3D coming to Vita?

Yes, yes, and no.
And maybe.
Depends on if you're going to try to platinum it, I'd say.

Sine Mora

Corrosive, what's your opinion on trophy difficult for Velocity Ultra vs. Sine Mora? I platinumed Velocity in about three days. I'd really like to get Sine Mora, but, yes, I confess, I'm a trophy collector. And I don't really like to start something that I can't completely finish. It's not a matter of not enjoying the game.. More a matter of I'm pretty good at games, but I get remarkably frustrated and want to eat children if I think something is ridiculously, stupidly difficult.

It is a little weird - but then after a generation of solid shooters I don't really miss them on Vita.

But isn't Duke Nukem 3D coming to Vita?

yes,1 upcoming game, really don't fix the issue and lack of FPS on the platform, why didn't Sony get the classic games (Doom, Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein 3D) is beyond me. if Sony can't get big name FPS or the classic ones, they should try to grab some of popular mobile ones like Dead Trigger and Modern Combat both are not from big studios or publishers (so easy to get them) but also very popular on portables.

I understand that (I don't miss fighting games after all tons of tons of them this gen, I don't even want to see new ones) but other care and love this genre and Vita need all sort of games to be a healthy system.

I thought the same. The dual sticks have been asked for from Sony since 2005.

Goin for that Assassin's Creed: Liberation platinum. The leak of AC:L HD motivated me to get back to working on it. Game is nowhere near as impressive as it was a year ago.

Also, how the heck do you get the human shields trophy? I can never get the soldiers to fire, and when they do, I can't grab anyone (have never gotten it to work).

Sure, I get that, but Merc offers so little new. The encouraged level replay mechanic is nice but... don't get me wrong, the game is ok/good, it's certainly not great. I wish it was.

whats the tape for? are you holding down buttons with it? looks like your holding up and R - is that how you climb / hold onto a wall?

whats the tape for? are you holding down buttons with it?

Yes. There's that stupid climber trophy, where you have to climb the height of Mt Everest. Playing the game, you only climb about 3,000-4,000 M, and you need to climb 8,848 M. You can only get it by grinding or holding down the run button and the analog forward into a wall too high for Aveline to climb. Didn't feel like sitting around for an hour holding down buttons on my Vita (that and I have to go to work in a little more than an hour).

well I'm not defending KZM at all I can't even play the beta for more than 3 min because the FOV gives me an awful headache everytime, I just saying that Sony should try to get more FPS on Vita (that will people wanting new stuff since KZ series isn't known for its new ideas or creativity)

I'm not a trophy hunter, but I think developers should make the trophies feel natural (this trophy migh feel natural for AC1/2 but AC3:L has very lil climbing) or ones that encourage you of doing cool and badass stuff not boring crap like this.

Made the mistake of buying Rayman Legends without beating Origins first. No way I'm downgrading, this game is amazing! The pacing, visuals, and the Murphy levels make it tons better than the last one.

For sure - it's still, for whatever reason, a crazy popular genre with people and having more, decent shooters on Vita can only help.

So good to see all these new Vita owners!

Feel free to add me. PSN ID is letep.

I'm looking forward to getting Killzone Mercenary this week. Reviews are scattered, but the beta was amazing and the game looks super cool. Not into FPS games either!

Seems like New LIttle Kings Story is getting a lot of love. I hadn't played the old game. Looking into this new one.

I figure even if we got lots of FPS games, most of them would be hot garbage, with only the occasional KZM, every couple years. They'd probably have an audience, though... I just wouldn't be that audience.

I'd love to have SD Cards of Bioshock 1, Portal, Half-Life 2, Mirror's Edge etc. I'd take the classics too, but only if Doom has the ambient PS1 music and not the original PC music... an option would be nice anyway. If Borderlands 2 comes out alright, I'll have a renewed dream of seeing Fallout 3 on here with a really short draw-in distance and more bugs (the more the merrier).

Oh man. You can look around in some of the in-game cutscenes in Killzone: Mercenary. Really makes me wish we could get a wing suit simulator game. Also makes me want Gravity Rush 2 ASAP! Hope TGS is the place for that announcement.

(Screenshot linked isn't story spoiler btw - just hiding cos lots of people don't have the game as yet, and this isn't the KZM OT)

Behave - Killzone isn't THAT good.

I beg to differ. I haven't gotten my hands on the single player yet, but if the beta is any indication for Killzone Mercenary as it was for Soul Sacrifice, the game is amazing.

It's still better than any shooter on the Vita.

True.

Beyond that, It's still better than a lot of shooters this generation, period.

Sine Mora's trophies are borderline ridiculous if you're going for 100%.
X360a (platform game has been out the longest on) has the difficulty rated by the author of the achievement guide as 9.5/10.
There's a lot of achievable trophies if you like the game and stick with it, but 95% of them have to do with completing challenges to "rank up".
The game is fun and you can complete story mode easily enough if you stick with it... however, the trophies are pretty hardcore. So if you want to 100% it, you're not going to be happy, but you will be missing out on a fantastic shmup.

Give me a little bit and I'll screenshot some of the open requirements I still have from the last time I booted it.

It's also better than most shooters on PS3. Game is fantastic.

Truth. Add in 360 while you're at it.

best shooter on any handheld/mobile.

Yes, easily. And beyond that, as I note above. ;)

That's how I did it.

Good luck.

I did something similar, but I managed to rubber band around the Vita in a way to hold left analog up AND press down the run button. I needed like 3800ft by that time and I think it took about 1.5-2 hours of idling like that.

Spelunky worth grabbing? Just realized I missed the ps+ discount window :(.

It's tough and frustrating. But if you're into that style then yes, it's excellent.

Seems a little premature to judge reviewer's opinions when you've played one multiplayer level. Let's wait til you've played it shall we? :p

On to the 5th world of Rayman Origins. All electoons, time trials, and relics done for the first 4. Game is really fun! Can't wait to get my hands on Legends

I've played 3 maps, not 1. And I've played 2 modes as well (free for all, warzone).

And I put a good 10+ hours into the online. Granted, it's not the 40+ I put into Soul Sacrifice's demo, but it's still impressive for 2 beta tests. I didn't even play much of the 2nd beta because I was focused on finishing other games and didn't have access to wifi a lot of the time.

I could be wrong, sure. But based on everything I've played, everything I've watched, and the knocks some of the reviews have levied against the game, I'm pretty sure I'm going to think it's at least a 9/10.

At LEAST a 9?! We have frighteningly different metrics, and tastes - which I suppose is a good thing!

Granted - I didn't think Killzone 1, 2 or 3 were anything above average to good. KZ2 had pretty fun multiplayer though.

I can tell you you've got nowt to worry about. I've been playing it for a couple of days now and it really is just fantastic. Like nothing else I've played on a handheld.

Never played Killzone.
Didn't think the campaign in Killzone 2 was worthwhile, but loved the multiplayer.
Thought Killzone 3 was a better campaign, though it was short and I didn't like the on rails sections. The multiplayer was still good; good enough that once I platinumed and sold Killzone 3 off that I bought the Killzone 3 multiplayer standalone on PSN.

Killzone is probably one of my favorite FPS franchises this generation, especially the multiplayer. To have something on the level of Killzone 2 or 3 on my Vita -- the quality online, the impressive graphics, the look and feel? Yeah, I'm beyond hyped.

My impressions of Killzone is mostly positive so far.

I have finished about 2 chapters and had a few rounds of MP online. The SP is short but fun. The length of SP is no problem since there are multiple ways to approach each situation + Intel to collect on each level/chapter. So the SP, while still being short, is pretty decent on replay value.

The gameplay is solid and while many people will find the controls 'weird', i was already used to them by playing the BETA. I had fun MP sessions with my friend so far. There were a few moments when i was kicked out of matches but i don't have a great connection anyway so can't blame it on servers.

Overall, i am genuinely pleased with the efforts of GG Cambridge Studio and consider it a solid effort on VITA. Keep in mind that this is my first FPS on VITA as i skipped out on COD: Declassified and Resistance.

Don't you think stuff like this is why the third party production group was formed in the first place? I mean not all publishers have the interest or resources to port their titles, and if Sony's going to bring in a third party to port it they might as well formalize the process with a publishing deal for more control and a bigger cut of the profits. Seems to me they're already doing what you want by bringing a popular FPS to the Vita as their first announced project.

If they need another FPS for the Vita, drag out Konami's dormant portable exclusive again. The original Coded Arms was ace. Spent a ridiculous amount of time in that.

Contagion? Eh, not so much.

In any case, OG Coded Arms was cool as heck and a terrific early PSP title. Bring it back or rework the cancelled CA: Assault for Vita.
