Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Damn, Rayman Legends looks so good on the Vita screen. I think I've had my fill of the gameplay after grinding too much in Origins, but it sure does look tasty.

All storage mediums save a bit of space for their own filesystem tables and reserved space.

I thought it was because storages are advertised as 1000MB per GB when in filesystems it's 1024MB per GB?

Operating system makers like Microsoft and Apple use a binary system to measure kilobyte, megabytes and gigabytes. Under this scheme, a kilobyte is made up of 1,024 (210) bytes, a megabyte is made up of 1,048,576 (220) bytes and a gigabyte made up of 1,073,741,824 (230) bytes. Hard drive manufacturers on the other hand use the decimal system for calculating the number of bytes that go to make a kilobyte, megabyte and gigabyte - 1,000 (103), 1,000,000 (106) and 1,000,000,000 (109) respectively. The upshot of all this is that for every gigabyte fitted as storage to a PC, when this is measured by Windows or Mac OS, the customer gets 74 megabytes less than they expect to see.

16 * 74 = 1184, so a 16GB should be around 14.81GB.

I know there reserved memory, but 2gb? I haven't bought memory this small in years.
It isn't reserve memory. Read the post before you. The computer system, being binary, does not count gigabytes like we do. This is standard across all memory formats. Buy a 1terabyte hdd and you will notice the computer doesn't actually recognise 1terabyte.

Loving my Vita. A week in, like 20 hours played. Looooove this system.

Some pages ago I discussed with someone about Gravity Rush sales. I've found in the MediaCreate thread something interesting. Quoting.

He also says Gravity Rush has done 150k (including the "best" release).

It's not that bad for a game that sold 40k first week in Japan. Do we know if GR is free in Japanese PS+. Anyone knows how their plus works anyway? I'm curious about it.

For edit 3, you're lucky I like you. :P
If you get it on Vita, I can play with you.

More coming...

Sorry i missed it!!

Thank you for posting these! I think the beauty is there. Do u still see the ... ahem... secondary animation well? :) honestly im still worried itll be too crowded on screen! Do you find it easy to see and play??

Also did you name your witch after Dragon Age's Morrigan? I think ill plunk down for the vita version regardless as thats where i spend almost all my gaming time nowadays. Ill def let you know when i get it. Trying to put a few games to bed, as ive gotten in the habit of buying new games before beating others thanks to these Sales...

Thanks again frost you rock! Sorry for the pop-in last night too in your soul cycle chat. I dont use that app much so i wanted to see what its about

Anyway vitabros, which of the jak & daxter trilogy was the only decent playable one for the vita was it 2? Or did they all turn out bad?

I never played any Jak and Daxter game, But I platinumed the 1st one on vita.
It runs ok. Very few frame drops. Runs at 30 fps. Has very poor IQ though.

The first games runs okay. 30 fps most of the time. The most noticeable framedrops are in the first hour. I'm actually playing that game... and I think I suck at it. I'm one of the few weird kids that didn't grow playing 3D platformers. So I'm not used to the shitty camera and I really hate the plane levels. But I like it.

The thing that surprised me the most was that there isn't to much story. I played the hole Sly1 and a few levels from the first Ratchet and they were more storydriven games (although I've played both ten years ago.

Just transferred my stuff to a 32GB last night. It's... Glorious.

And complete bullshit, of course.

32 max, Sony!? Overpriced memory Sony!?

Obligatory, I apologize.

But yeah, it hurt a little paying that much for the card, but it sure is nice to just grab the vita and walk away with a variety of great titles and genres. I no longer have to decide what I'll feel like playing later - I have it all (for now)!

Not so recent article exposed that Ubi purposely reduced GPU frequency on Liberations to save on battery life. This arguably (or maybe not) degraded performance and sacrificed native resolution. If you were Ubi, would you?

nope - i woulda made it the best game possible regardless if it drained the battery in 2 - 4 - or 8 hours.

worked for Killzone....

The frame rate wasn't the worst offender for Liberation. The game just wasn't so good. The charm lied in playing a AC game on a portable that's why i can't see it as a HD remake. The better frame rate wouldn't really have made it a better game.

Adding to this I'll say that Jak 1 was a great game on the Vita. I had a blast playing it and its the only one I finished.

Jak 2 runs about as well as Jak 1 but with a few more frame-rate drops. It runs well enough that I would've finished it had it not been for the shitty controls. That's the only thing that stopped me. They controlled like complete fucking shit. The game is heavily reliant on vehicle missions, but the vehicles are so fucking hard to control properly. I gave up on the game as it was just too difficult in the cheapest of ways.

I started playing Jak 3 and loved it. Seriously, a huge improvement over Jak 2. The game runs better than Jak 2 as well but I eventually quit that one too. Not out of dislike for the game, but I knew that I was never going to finish Jak 2, so I never would've gotten the series' full experience even after beating 3. I sold the game.

Fuck Jak 2... stupid fucking lame bullshit game...

Some of those precision, covert and demolition objectives in Killzone's campaign are pretty tough.

And it's good to see there really are multiple paths. Redid the first mission with demolition objectives and ended up finding a few areas I never noticed before.

I bought Rayman Legends because I've played so much of Origins over the past day that my eyes feel weird.

Like really weird.

But man, Rayman Origins is now probably one of my favourite games of all time.

EDIT: finished the first mission in Killzone. I know I'm not far yet, but I almost regret buying it. It looks amazing, and I've managed to make the controls more bearable by turning on motion aiming and cranking up the sensitivity, but I can't see myself finishing it or really getting a whole lot out of it.

Sigh... Sony should really spend some good money to get all these HD Collection ports done properly... Their current half-baked status does not do the IP and Vita any justice

A few images when I was playing, These fights got crazy

So the dlc is for higher levels right? i ask because i havent been able to clear the pre-mission you have to do (unlocking thr memories) without dying. Is it a matter of being underleveld or just sucky?

And I have a great announcement to make. VITABROS, I finally have Internet on my vita again!

I think part of the problem with these ports is that developers downport the HD version of the collections to Vita instead of porting the original, which maybe easier for them (porting from PS2 to Vita migh be hard because of old hardware and PS3 to Vita porting supposed to be supereasy) but it's not good for the games.

(direct feed of original NG)
snap003.jpg

like Ninja Gaiden, why pick the Sigma version (HD textures, higher poly count..ect) instead of the original for a handheld port? on Vita screen with AA this will just look as the HD and Team Ninja can give us 60fps as well instead of sacrificing the NG speed and feel, this is the same situation with other ports like Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath where they downported the HD version instead porting the original and Jak collection.

yeah you'll need to be 50/50 or that sort of high level, bring heal items, and even when you unlock the new dlc mission are almost impossible for solo play/with AI partners you'll need ad-hoc real friends or online friends for them.

The DLCs are almost always for higher levels. To get through those memory levels, I usually just equip some defensive sigils and amulet offerings.

The latter sounds like an enormous amount of work when you have the HD versions 'ready' to go, despite them all running like ass.

As for Stranger's Wrath - the original was on XBOX right? I wonder if there's complications of using the original? Or, perhaps as with stuff like Jak, Jet Set etc the ROI just isn't worth the time when you can whack a cheap port out the door and see what sticks.

yeah as you said, it's just easier and cheaper for them to port the HD version (modern hardware to modern hardware) and I guess that why they do it but the end results will not be as good and we saw it happens (old games run bad on Vita) over and over with almost all of these ports.

ideal situation will be porting the original but yeah that will not happen unfortunately.

Edit:waiting for unstable 15fps GOW 1/2.

Well I thought I just finished Hotline Miami, but...

Earlier in this thread I called Dave out for saying Hotline Miami played best on Vita. However, Dave I'm sorry duder you are absolutely right this game was built for the Vita. It is so fluid and awesome once I put some work in and got a better handle on the controls. I haven't gone back to the PC version nor feel the need to.

I'm here to eat my crow. Can I get that with some bearnaise?

ps.. Fuck
Purple cats.
. That is all.

Porting the originals would simply be more work, meaning the games would run even worse.

Well, I have my Vita for 2 days now and I love this thing. The resolution for the screen size is just delicious. Played through two chapters of The Walking Dead and a little bit of Dragon's Crown, and holee sheet is the artwork beautiful on DC. Grabbed Metal Slug XX off of PSN as well - it reminds me how much more practice I need with run and gun shooters. :P

Alright, back in business! Bought myself PS Plus and Killzone M. With GTAV and a PS4-bundle pre-ordered, I'm all set for a considerable time.

Quick Q that I'm sure has been asked before.

If I buy Playstation One games off the US Playstation store, can I play them on my Vita that's linked to my EU PSN account?

Oh man they are going to butcher GoW. I bet the games are going to be 30 fps.

Luckily it's at least stable.

But the problem isn't the PS3 > Vita conversion per se, but developers laziness / time they have to port the game. .

That Oddworld HD port runs smoothly, right? It may be 30 fps but the game runs smoothly and nobody has a complain about the game quality. If those guys (and I think i've read here that the Vita port was done by one dude) can make the game run well in the Vita, how can't Sony make J&D Collection or R&C FFA run at locked 30 fps?

I don't really care if God of War runs at 30 or 60 if the game looks and works good. But a console manufacturer needs to do a proper work when releasing games in its platform. If they don't trait Vita owners with proper respect, who is going to do it?

And I don't care about framerate, at least in Jak 1. But I wouldn't have played that game if it wasn't cross-buy with the PS3 collection they have put in plus. If I'm spending 30 bucks in a game, I want a proper experience. If the description says 3 games that can be played in both the PS3 and Vita, I want the three games to work good in both the PS3 and the Vita.

If I had bought that FFA shit, I would ask Sony to refund my money because I haven't bought the product that they have delivered. They'll ignore me, but still...

What do you have against panthers?

And I've been agreeing with Dave since Hotline Miami came out... it's absolutely perfect on Vita -- much better than any other platform I've played it on.

gah. along with Totori+ and Muramasa oh well
and Divekick.

I'm really thinking of Velocity Ultra now. seeing it's 7.99

Yes, yes, and no.
And maybe.
Depends on if you're going to try to platinum it, I'd say.

Edit: Love how I get the top of the page posts and don't even realize it.
Oh well, here we go...

Frost highly recommends:
Persona 4 Golden
Hotline Miami
Spelunky
Muramasa Rebirth
Dragon's Crown
Soul Sacrifice
Sine Mora

tempted to buy Playstation all-stars seeing as its a little under $20 new on amazon. opinions on it?

I love it. It's a surprisingly enjoyable game, and if you have some friends to come over and play it with, it's a great party fighter. It's different than Smash Bros, which I like (I'm also a diehard Smash Bros fan). The 4 additional DLC characters are also a lot of fun to play with as well.

EDIT:

I also wanted to add that AC: Liberations is a lot of fun. Especially if you are an AC fan. To be honest, I didn't even notice an IQ problem, because it looks really good on the Vita screen. As for the framerate, I can't say it stood out to me. It definitely had some slowdown in spots, I guess, but it never hindered my game play. A lot of its flaws are incredibly over-exaggerated, but then again, this is NeoGAF, so that should be expected. Coming after AC: Bloodlines on the PSP, it felt incredibly awesome having a true AC game on a handheld. The only thing I hated about the game were the few times you had to hold it up to the light to solve information. That was obnoxious. The story and characters were really solid, though. Aveline is really likable and awesome. I recommend it definitely to AC fans. If you aren't an AC fan, this game isn't going to win you over if the other games haven't.
