I spent most of the day using my Leve allowances on Battlecraft leves to get those last few levels before 50. Figured out that you can game the /beckon quest in Mor Dhona, just make a macro and spam it on the guy every few steps. You can completely ignore the mobs even if you turn it up to +4, which gives you a more frequent treasure chest. The whole thing takes about a minute from pickup to turn-in. It may be the only method of leveling that's faster than fates.

In addition, I completely kitted out my Warrior in ilvl 47 jewelry by doing this and went from 47-49 with 75 cards, plus got a bunch of mega-potions and stat food.

So for all you crafters, where do you guys usually go farming for bomb ash at? Ive been doing the area with the golems mixed in, but its a little spread out. Was wondering if there are any better areas out there. Can still use the same spot, but its just tedious since am after the HQ stuff so need to kill a ton.

Was doing the level 40 Miner Levequest "Breach and Build"... and well, I think it's glitched. It only spawns 7 spots total, not 8. :( You can't complete it.

Well it either seems like my account was hacked or something happened with my security token. I can't use the token anymore as it's asking for my a one-time password to access it and I no longer have that password anymore.

It seems like I have a long wait til SE gets back to me on a resolution. Not sure what happened or why the phone app reset itself and my information when it worked earlier today with no problem.
The security token is shit though. The one time password needs to be refreshed every time you open another login attempt. Anyone try that if you have any problems

for some reason the officer refuse to give me a promotion and keep telling me i'm rank 1 in the hunting log while i'm rank 2...any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Thats your class hunting log, check the one with the company flag icon (The red one)

Mining - South thanlan - forgotten springs or something like that.

Isn't that how it is supposed to work? I'm using the iPhone app and I don't see what's wrong with the way it works... IIRC the Google Authenticator app works the same way.

Weekend highlight so far: Earlier I caused the healer to ragequit on like the third group of enemies at the entrance to Brayflox, it made me sad :( I think I might be too clumsy for tanking.

Had one of those terrible tanks we're all familiar with in Toto-Rak tonight.

Always hit just a single mob, so all others instantly pulled off onto the healer. Super slow. Just... pretty much useless.

We wiped on the final boss twice and he ended up dropping. I'm pissed because it's my first time in there and I need the dungeon to progress the story.

Even though the wipes were bad (boss at like 50%), we decided to try and 3-man it with my Topaz tanking and me off-healing.

It ended up working perfectly - it's probably the one and only moment in FF XIV so far where I felt like I've had to be on high alert and actually fire on all cylinders. Had to keep my heal over time up all the time. Couldn't miss Aetherflow cool downs. When adds showed up I would refresh my DoTs on the boss before switching to burn the adds, etc.

I'm still enjoying the game for the story and high level of overall polish, but mostly I find the combat to be a little bit of a snooze-fest. Hopefully 30-50 feels better.

It blows my mind how quickly ppl rage in this game lol. So crazy. I saw this kid today have a straight up tantrum when I was helping on hydra because someone did something. granted we told this person numerous times what he needs to do but damn.

This kid starts crying and bitch, learn to play etc your a noob etc. I look up his character and of course like everyone else that I have looked up that I have seen with this type of behavior 1 lvl 50, doesn't even have other jobs leveled for the cross class skill she needs (swiftcast, etc) didn't play 1.0-1.23c, hasn't accomplished shit, wearing AF.

Wasn't even that good. Everyone else I have seen doing this quitting, raging quitting, etc etc all the same boat.

Most of these players couldn't have survived in 1.0 with that attitude. Blows my mind.

Torn between BRD and PLD. Can I make a viable tank with a controller or should I go the BRD route? PLD seems to be much more suited for keyboard/mouse.

Set my alarm to wake up at 4:30am to make a character on Ultros. It's one of 5 that still have character creation locked. This is crazy now.

I give up. Back to sleep.

Hopefully once character transfers are up and running they'll give everybody one free transfer if they want to go play with their friends due to the locks.

Is the Gaf FC on Ultros still full? If so,can I get an invite to the overflow fc?(If there is one and that isn't full either) Handle: Pelagius Themad.

On a side note, I'm having a lot of fun trying to collect the minions. Wish there was more! and crafting is crazy compared to Wow crafting. So daunting at first, but its really fun. This game really quenches that MMO thirst far better then SWTOR did.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the tank I was grouped with this afternoon in Toto-Rak. Was the first time I actually got a bit frustrated. I tried telling him he needs to build enmity on all the mobs, but he never seemed to figure it out and didn't say a word in party chat. He would also constantly run off while we were fighting stuff to open chests or attack another group of mobs out of range of our healer.

We ended up trying the boss two times, the first time he ran in before anyone could say anything and ended up dying in the poison. Second time we told him what needed to be done, he immediately ran in, ignored the boss, and started attacking the pods at close range, causing Graffias to aggro the healer when he was healed. I pulled it off the healer and tanked it figuring he'd come back and take aggro when he was done, but instead he stood outside the platform and used his tomahawk skill over and over again. At that point the healer said he was done with this tank and quit, as did the other dps.

I still can't figure out what was going on with him. I'd almost say he was trolling us all, but he seemed to get genuinely upset with the healer when he died after the first attempt (this was the one and only time he talked).

Um. I think that was me. Phoenix server by any chance? Probably wasn't me, but it sounds like the same situation, I was the only one who dropped as everyone else beat the boss in that very same dungeon.

Again, this is why I don't like that part of this game. Wish I could solo through the whole thing. I freely admit I'm not a great tank, but wtf am I supposed to do? I'm new to MMO's and trying the best I can. Fuck.

edit: Nope wasn't me. Our party (well...they) got through on the first try.

But when people say stuff like build enmity on the mobs - no fucking clue what you're talking about.

It's still full. I believe they'll start accepting new members once the free month trial ends.

Yay lvl31 war, time to grind some more so I can do brayflox.

For an MMO, this game is really terrible to play with friends, to be honest. The dungeons are too spread out and there are like 100 solo quests inbetween each dungeon/boss fights, so I'm just doing fates inbetween dungeons so I can keep up in level inorder to party up with some of my friends for dungeons/mission, while they spend the entire weekend grinding through the solo quests to get high enough level for the dungeon. Dungeons don't give enough exp to level me up anyway, so I have to fate grind.

Outside of those solo quests, you got uh fates, which are also snoozefests.

Did toto'rak twice last night and it barely gave any exp so we had to separate so they can get caught up grinding solo quests to unlock the mansion, I went to sleep, came back and they're still at it, so we barely get to do anything together, it's really silly.

Yup - exact same stuff. Ignoring mobs that are hitting DPS/heals in the face to run over to a treasure chest (I guess because he thinks whoever gets there gets the loot?), never saying ONE WORD, running into boss rooms ASAP without even looking to see if the rest of us are behind him, regularly just standing still, etc.

He acted as if he was by himself.

The NEVER SPEAKING is what gets to me the most I think. Like we're trying to correct his behavior, teach him to tag other mobs, don't bum-rush bosses, etc. And he just keeps doing it. Never responding. Maddening.

I know people run into people at 50 that have no idea WTF is going on, but I don't even see how people make it to 25-30.

Nah this dude left the party at the end. So if you didn't do that, it wasn't you. As for enmity/aggro, just hit every enemy that's in a group a few times. You probably have some sort of Cleave or other attack that will hit everything around you, too. Spam that as often as you can. Mark targets 1, 2, 3 so people know what order to kill them.

If you use your taunt/AOE skills when they come up and mark targets you'll be a perfectly good tank for dungeons.

Are you a marauder by chance? I've heard they don't really explain tanking to you at all while the gladiator quests do. If so you might try switching to gladiator, at least temporarily and leveling him up so you can go through the class quests. You'll need those levels anyway to become a warrior so they won't go to waste.

Hmm. I'm level 27 and don't have anything called Cleave or really any attacks that hit everything. But at least now I know I should hit all enemies in the group a few times. (What does that do exactly?)

Though I have to say, even though I'm inexperienced, I'd never do the 'run on my own' thing. Hell, most of the time I don't even check the chests for loot. I play completely unselfish, I just don't know everything about the techniques.

No, I'm a Gladiator. Maybe I need to go back to Ul dah and do more of the class based quests...?

Hey the Marauder quests taught me to use my weapon skill on a boulder.

This is part of MMOs. You'll have to go and do some research on your own to learn about your class, as you can't count on people in groups just telling you how to play. If you don't want to, that's going to continue to be a problem, because dungeons are required to advance through the main story quest, and you picked the most demanding role to play, intentionally or not.

Read your abilities. Some include a note for "Additonal Enmity". This means those abilities generate additional points of threat/hate/enmity/aggro on the monster. Usually 1 point of damage dealt = 1 point of threat/hate/enmity/aggro. Those abilities generate damage x2 or sometimes x3. This is how a tank stays ahead of the damage classes.

If you're having trouble with the basics while progressing, I suggest queuing for the earlier/simpler (first three) dungeons to practice.

Flash is your AoE hate skill.

Mark the target you'll be focusing on as 1 (you can drag the 1 mark sign from the Signs menu right onto your hotbar).

Pull with your shield throw, or simply move into melee range.

Face the mobs away from the party.

Hit them with Flash 2x/3x, then go into your single target rotation on your primary target, interspersing interrupts/cooldown buffs/whatever else you need to use.

Remark the next kill target as 1.

Add comes into the fight? Shield throw and bring it over, if its any duration into the fight, the other mobs will already be locked on your and you can do an enmity+ rotation on it once or twice to lock it onto you.

Tada, you are now a magic awesome tank.

Be aware that Flash does have a pretty short distance, so you want to cluster the mobs up first before you fire it off. If DPS are yanking mobs off you before you can even establish initial aggro, that's their problem, not yours. If your healer is yanking mobs off you, get them back on asap, but it shouldn't happen for anything other than uncontrolled adds.
