Question to you fellow Warriors - when to use Defiance and when not?
Part of my confusion is that I recall seeing a threat multiplier table in this thread earlier (can't remember where), but I think it showed that Defiance changes all of your skills to have a 2x multiplier. In the same table it was shown that Overpower would have a 4x threat modifider.
So, is there a specific time and place to use Defiance?
To me, it seems like AoE threat and damage would be a lot better without it, but you might want to pop it for bosses that hit hard. Note that I'm only 32 as of now, so I don't even have the lvl 35 skill that uses up Wrath charges.
Or am I just a confused Marauder who's hit his head a few too many times?
I need to do Tam-Tara for the story but I've been waiting for almost 100 minutes today and the duty finder still can't find any healer.
Yesterday I waited over two hours but was stupid enough to take 5 minutes to grab some food, which was precisely the moment the df chose to find someone and kick my ass out of the queue since I didn't saw it.
This is bullshit, I just want to progress in the story T_T
Stole this ui from reddit but I do love it

Oh dang, so there is still waiting around to do nothing in this even with the DF. One of the reasons I leveled beastmaster was to do stuff on my time. My last memory of being fed up with waiting around or looking for members was on Thief to do assault runs (could probably solo it but you need 3 people to enter). Sounds like you wasted a lot of time.
What class are you? So be tank or healer, so many dds.

Yeah I'm a pug. I eventually got a party, but it took like two hours and half. Going to start queuing for Copperbell now, and do some mandates with my Lancer or play Virtue's Last Reward until someone bites.
Well speaking only from my own experience I've never had trouble holding aggro (both mobs and single targets) at all with Defiance activated. So I dunno how you came to believe that it somehow decreases AoE threat.
Always have defiance on when you are tanking. It will greatly increase the amount of enmity you generate from all attacks compared to without, and increase your HP. It reduces the damage you output sure, but you are not DPS. If you are tanking and you have it off, you are doing something wrong. If you are playing solo, just doing quests, FATEs, etc then you'll turn it off because you want more damage output.
By the way, does anyone remember where the threat multiplier table was?
Got my Archer up to level 32 today. Accepted the "Bard" job and hopefully it'll be more useful down the line as I level up, not really feeling it at the moment. I think I'm going to now focus a little on my THM because the Black Mage really looks interesting. I'm only at level 10 on that class, so a long way to go.
It'll be another day then!
Btw, if you want to party, send me a PM when you're on, I don't always check the thread but I should see the PM.
When the party works, this game is freaking fantastic, even at the lower levels.
AK queues still slow?
Welp, looks it's even harder to find a party for Copperbell. Been queuing up for an hour now and the Duty Finder can't even find another DPS to queue with me, let alone a tank or healer lol
So I've just lvled my GLA to 30, got my Paladin job and tanked my first dungeon. All went well but Provoke is utterly useless, can anyone explain what it actually does? I assumed it was like taunt in WoW but it does virtually nothing to gain aggro, especially for a 40 sec CD.
I have noticed as a tank that it doesn't immediately put me together with a DPS waiting or something. I only notice it has found someone when it pops up ready to commence.Welp, looks it's even harder to find a party for Copperbell. Sounds like today just isn't your day.
Square Enix needs to use my idea of having a SE arcade room for people waiting for party or members. Play classic SE games, be notified when a new mage is found. For PC have a popup or a app that show up over whatever you have open on pc (ffxiv in full screen windowed mode) like steam spam. Play games while you try to play a game. Watch movies, level up in real life by getting extra work/homework/random studying done.
I suppose you could be crafting, or leveling other classes while duty finder is searching though. But FF7 themed ice hockey!
Provoke works well for me as a quick enmity spike in emergencies. Flash and Fast Blade -> Savage Blade -> Rage of Halone are the primary enmity tools for the class.
FF78. Galbadia Bears!

Oof, couldn't really enjoy the last dungeon because of speed runners in the group. They really need to fix that. It's kind of silly to be able to just bypass it all.

I need the soundtrack of this game in my life immedietley. Some of the music in the final bosses is...wow
Got my Costa Del Sol Vacation Amazon inspired outfit together

It would make the most sense to provide actual motivation to completing trash at level 50. One gil drops and occasional trade skill items aren't really enough.

Just curious, but how much does character progression open up during the mid-late levels?
From what I've played so far, each class only has a handful of active skills (outside of the pet classes.) For example, playing Archer in the early levels it's Heavy Shot → Straight Shot, Straight Shot, Straight Shot, Straight Shot. Lancer seems a little better with Feint → True → Vorpal → Sweep → Thrust.
It just seems like the classes skills in battle are repetitive. Thaumaturge is Thunder, Fire Fire Fire, Blizzard Blizzard Blizzard.
Does it get better later on? Are there opportunities for meaningful choices in battle? I still haven't played a class past level 10, but Arcanist → SMN / SCH seem like the classes that will have the most variety. Am I wrong?
Cute, even if you are Moon tribe.
Enjoy the game at your own pace. Too many people blow through the content not enjoying it, then get burnt out on endgame. Most of these people will probably bail after the first month.
Yeah unfortunately, they've kind of screwed up progression at 50. Endgame content is always an issue in new mmos, but the way they handled it here is especially poor. People speedrun AK because a) it's the most efficient way to gear up for hard mode stuff/coil, and b) there's no reason whatsoever to kill trash right now.
They need to fix both issues to stop people from wanting to speed run it constantly.
And unfortuantely, they're not wrong - this is as much a failure of design as it is an issue with players wanting to take the path of least resistance. If there's no benefit to you for killing trash, why would you bother?
If they made trash drop tomestones, added more tomestone drops to other 40+ dungeons, gave a daily tomestone bonus for helping other players in the duty finder clear story primals/endgame story dungeons, you'd see a change in behavior.
Got dropped into Aurum with a mixed-language party. Played interpreter, held the group together, had the best time in an MMO I've had since the good old "flag up and wait" days of FFXI. There's something very, very special about the feeling of adventure that comes from treading new ground with strangers who don't just come from the desert kingdom -and- the forest kingdom, but actually come from all across the world.

From memory...
DRG 50 Heavy trust > fracture > photebolize > impulse drive > disembowl > jump > chaos trust > true trust > vorpal trust > full trust.
Something like that + buffs
So is it basically a set rotation?
Is a bit more complicated.you need to maintain buffs refill expiration ones, abilities not worth if there are not a combo.
There is a wonderful thread on official forums about the DRG rotation, is about 27 abilities one.

I dont think they should reward you with anything for killing trash. I dont think every little thing you do in the game needs some sort of reward. You are doing the dungeon for the tomes so it should be everything that entails. They just have to make it so the trash blocks your way and they need to eliminate this cheese tank death mechanic by making the trash go after the rest of the party when the tank dies. The only thing they need to do is they should also put in some more worthwhile gil token drops in the chests to at least give a monetary reward for the equipment wear you get from doing them and having to kill trash.
Game is super easy to level, super easy to do everything so imo a little trash isn't going to kill anyone. It is called trash for a reason. They never expected people to be finishing these runs in 11-15 minutes (hence those queues when you have a formed light party for that instance) making it even easier to just rip through limited content so people can say they are bored next week.
About 20-30 minutes with a full party on Ultros.
I'm guessing people are thinking that the Mythology Tomestones cap will reset after the upcoming maintenance, so everyone is spamming AK to cap at 300 before Wednesday since it just reset on Monday.
