Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Are dead pixels still a thing? What's the thing to look out for now when buying a Vita?

The one I bought about 3 weeks ago has a really mushy left trigger button that makes creaking noises.

I'm returning it today, hopefully the new one won't have that issue.

So Ubisoft revealed some very very interesting games today, at least 3....sadly none of them are coming to vita which I dont understand why. Those games, I assume, should be able to run on a vita. Also, the vita lost AC Liberations. Quite disappointed by this :L
Wasn't the Rayman Legends Vita port announced later than the other platforms? I wouldn't be too surprised if one of those Rayman-engine games gets announced for Vita later on.

Creaky left tigger is a known fault and really easy to fix - tighten up a screw I think.

More Vita Slim photos from Japanese stores. Would be interesting to see a screen comparison

:lol oh man

^ Oh lord, that bezel tho... Haha. Guess it adds character.

Anyway, whatever they need to do get this thing cheaper I'm all for. I'm sure the *plebs* will hardly notice the LCD disparity. :)

I'm surprisingly sold on Vita TV. Oddball, for sure, but I'm hoping it makes its way over here if only for the ps4 extender.

Wow. That plastic looks ugly. I thought this model was gonna be matte. In the pic below you can see that the back half is matte, and the front half is glossy. Weird decision. Looks cheap. It is just a mock-up according to the article though.

Either thats the case for these announced games or Ubisoft has dropped support. Im hoping it isnt the latter. Would have been better if they announced vita version today with these games, what with huge vita related bombs i.e. VitaTV and Vita 2.0

Also, yes, people, you should buy Kickbeat with PS+ before its gone. Its a pretty solid rhythm game.

To remove the disappointment of Ubisoft, been enjoying a good hour or two of KZ M,
ended at the part where one of the coolest designed characters of Mercenary, Ivanov, died
and boy, is it pretty and fun. Also, did you know if you slide into enemies, they actually fall over! Awesome :D

My Vita pickup got delayed to tomorrow because of the storm. Bummer.

I bought P4G ahead of time and was very disappointed that Vita games dont come with manuals or inserts. No wonder the cases felt empty. Granted I dont even read manuals but it still made me feel hollow.

Well to be fair, the OG Vita is kinda the same, but it doesn't look as cheap because there's no bezel for the screen.

Whoa! You're right. Had to grab my Vita to check it out. The silver border really makes a big difference to the overall look of the machine too. Gonna be extra careful with this machine from now on.

Just got my 32gb card finally!, couldn't resist at £39.99, looking forward to grabbing myself some cheap PSP titles now.

I want to give my old 16gb card to my mate so I'm wondering do I need to deactivate it first something or just format it?

I don't know how I missed that all the "colored" Vitas are still black or white in front for so long. Sigh. On the upside, now the dayglo yellow is a lot more appealing.

What's the chance it comes to North America?
Zero.

Should I just import it? If so, what's the best way?
The best way depends upon what you value more: a better price or more convenience. Speaking of better price, I think I'd try and hold out for 15000 yen unless you want one ASAP. This new lower cost Vita is being introduced at the exact same price as the OLED Vita...smart move from a corporate perspective, but as a consumer I'd wait until they were willing to pass on the savings. Anyway, the following is for you or anyone else in NA who doesn't have much experience with imports but was thinking about it. I've seen a few people around pondering.

1.) Stateside import shop: NCS will probably stock them. In the rare event something goes wrong, dealing with native English speakers located on the same continent as you is nice. Super high markup though.

2.) Overseas import shop: Play-Asia will definitely carry them. However if an item is not in stock, you can't depend upon their "usually ships within x" timeframe. It "usually" takes a few weeks longer.

3.) Japanese exporter: AmiAmi might stock them. Since they're a Japanese retailer they sometimes discount below MSRP, but they're kind of a mom-and-pop warehouse so you're not gonna get the most polished experience and they aren't the most flexible. You're "not allowed" to cancel orders, for example—they'll do it if you explain the circumstances or you can just refuse to pay the invoice, but that's inadvisable.

4.) Japanese forwarder: Sign up for a Japanese address from Tenso, then order the system from Amazon Japan...or any other retailer large enough to accept non-Japanese credit cards. After thinking about it, the circumstances in which this would be your best choice are kinda rare so I'm just gonna leave it at that and say you're probably best off with option 2 or 3.

As long as the screen is comparable, i don't have a problem with any of the other changes.

if i could play in direct sunlight better, the difference in screens might be completely overlooked.

I like the two toned look. i used to do this with my N64 controllers.

Right, so this being a mock-up explains why it's the only photo where the screen doesn't look awful. Because it's fake.

Guess I can always put my 2nd Vita money towards a later PS4..

I think I'll cautiously remain in the PCH-2000 camp until the 10th of October. The improved battery life, smaller back panel and USB power are good enough for me to buy a 2nd Vita for, if the LCD isn't trash.

Plus, I'm hoping they release a black and blue version in North America.

The screen of the new one looks good in the pictures we have seen (don't know what you guys are talking about), but we haven't seen enough of it. We don't know know about viewing angles, saturation, ad black levels. We need a proper comparison with the best Vita, the OG.

Yeesh it is SO ugly.

Also would be a seriously lame move if they brought over different colors of that ugly model over here to the states when they couldn't bother with the colored OG Vita models.

i think its loosen the screw.

That would make more sense but the report I read said tighten...

Any who, no creaking from my triggers anyway!
I had this problem on my 2nd Vita and can confirm a tiny bit of loosening will clear it right up.

Also, that redesign is fugly. Do not want.

EDIT:

It's fake? Good. The ends look far too much like a PSP.

Just that unit. The design is real, but the screen is fake.

My prayers:
Ideally price-drop the 2000 to $170 early next year.
Discontinue -only- the WiFi 1000 model.
Keep 3G 1000 as the 'premium' model, newer units with +1HR Battery (if possible) and 1GB Internal Storage ($250?)
Release Limited Editions in both 2000/3G1000 models.

Hasn't the 3G unit already been retired by Sony?

I will only buy a new one if they add 5ghz wifi. I don't know what they were thinking not adding it to the 2000 model when they are pushing remote play so much. For many people who live in apartments or even some condos 2.4ghz will be inadequate to stream games

There's no way they're going to update the original model.

I'm doing a weekly feature about Vita games. Am I allowed to post a link without getting banned?
Other people post links to their stuff, as long as it's not incessant spamming I don't see why it would be a problem.

BlueMaxima is posting his Vita news videos all the time so I'm guessing it's fine

Ah right thanks. I guess I can post it. Each week I focus on a Vita game and say why you should get it. This week it's Thomas Was Alone. Any comments are welcome, even if they shit on it lol.

I'm a little late to the Sony conference reactions, but I mayaswell post my two cents here.

It was a good show. I didn't expect anything at all related to Vita and a strong PS4 focus, instead I came out seeing a pricedrop, more software (even if it was Japan centered) a new model which has 1gb of internal memory (which while quite small is enough for people to be able to play software and get a couple of digital downloads before they buy more storage) a 64gb card and the Vita TV.

The Vita TV really puzzled me at first. I knew it let you play your Vita games on your TV but the price being more cheaper than the actual system and not requiring the hardware really made me question the Vitas identity as a handheld, but now I understand it's more than that and if this has the potential to up the Vita userbase and software support so I'm all for it. (heck I might even import one myself)

Things have finally been looking up for the Vita since Gamescom.

In other news I also bought Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Vita, it's pretty neat playing it on a portable!
Wonder why Origins is so high up there? Don't get me wrong, it's awesome; it just seems odd. Was it on sale last month or something?
Yeah, I'm wondering this aswell.

Edit:
That explains it, Origins Vita at 5 bucks is a great deal.

Eh, I can't harbor any animosity toward Ubisoft. They gave the platform a go. If they don't think it's viable for the titles they're currently releasing, so be it. I'm sure they'll be keeping an eye on things and they'll get involved again when they feel it's time.

Well said, but the facts are still disheartening.
