Hate to say this, and this might not be for awhile, but there's a chance I may end up transferring over to Balmung server later, just to open up the option of a little RP. That's not the reason I bought the game, but, it would be nice to be able to, openly explore the character I threw together for this game.

It probably won't be for awhile though, both because server transfers aren't available yet, I'd like to train up and get to the endgame first, and because I want an opportunity for the same experience to become available on Ultros. After all, I may not need a dedicated server, considering I mainly just want to dabble.

Exactly how much money does the average person have?
I mean I don't even bat an eye at a 5-6k repair bill...

Feel sorta bad now.

Welp, it either looks like I'm terrible at managing money or it's from not doing any side quests past 25, but I have approximately 30k on me right now. I do have a ton of quests I suppose I can do with my 2nd job instead of constantly grinding fates like I did with my first one.

I am teh poor tho.

40k lol.

As someone who much prefers running dungeons rather than sitting around crafting and gathering (in every single MMO) I really wish it was possible to make decent income from dungeons.

I think the problem is that if they do that, then pretty much thats all the gil farmers will be doing.

But do agree, making money is basically forced upon gathering / crafting which cant even net that much now with how broken the market is in general. Esp the fact that everyone goes after HQ stuff only for the most part.

Wish they had different tiers of HQ to spread out the market a bit.

---

In regards to money I would have had around 150k Id imagine if I never spent a cent and constantly sold things. Right now things just dont move correctly at all so its a constant check & drop all the time with the prices.

Sounds like he's playing on a legacy server

I have like ~96k and it goes lower every day w/repairs (crafting is so boringgggg)

Maybe they'll make it like 1.0 where LITERALLY NOTHING BUT DARK MATTER DROPS

Finish Garuda

Dark Matter

Finish Ifrit

Dark Matter

AV/Cutters Cry?

Dark Matter

Mog?

Dark Matter

I have so much fucking darkmatter in my retainer from 1.0 it's absurd.

Extend it to crafting as well to provide some equal opportunity.

Baking a cake?

Dark Matter

Grilling a fish?

Dark Matter

etc.

No no, this is 1.0.
You fail a craft, you don't get dark matter.

You get nothing
Because your synth exploded along with the materials.
HQ synthing in 1.0 was basically making great things or making fire.

Actually in WoW the constant money drops from monsters and such does add up. This game you are beyond lucky if you get double digit gil drops from certain enemies... mainly humanoid ones it seems.

Are the leveling areas from 1-49 decently populated? I was under the impression that everyone would be level 50 on there already so doing fates and low level dungeons would be tough.

I knew it would be and that's why I started over on Ultros even though I had a 1.0 character there that I barely played.
My thinking was that I'd be a dirty poor among billionaires. Plus I didn't want to play with people who loved 1.0.
Oh well.

Yup. Sarg is very populated and everyone is super friendly and helpful. I've yet to see any trolls and everyone is welcoming. The Gil flow is as I said a fountain; no economy woes here :)

I hope Square isn't planning on doing maintainence during NA primetime every week. What a joke that they don't split it out for each dramatically different set of time zones. Guess I'll have to play Dota tonight :|
Maintenance is tomorrow night not tonight... right? Right?!! BibleThump

It looks like I'll run Wanderer's Palace once for completion and fun and then move on to AK then. I'm already dreading those repair costs. Thanks!

Not if you want to get dat pet. Place is cool as fuck too.

I don't see how this would be terrible... How often do people "troll" and kill themselves just to kill everyone after entering a dungeon? The answer is almost never... especially with these repair costs. I'm actually kind of dumbfounded that monster "pulls" are not infact full party. So I'm guessing the tank just runs through aggroing everything (with teammates in tow) and then when you get to a boss he died... monsters reset and the healer revives him? If so then wow.

3 of my last 10 groups had someone do that. Straight up to troll. Then another 2 had people start doing that when the party wasn't doing what they wanted to get people to leave so they could get out without the cooldown on using the DF.

So you want them to do maintenance at separate times for separate time zones instead of doing it all at once...?

America isn't the world

Yea I do, just like every other MMO out there. The maintenance should be staggered by region so you don't have large chunks (30%) of the playerbase left out at any one time. It's fine for now because they do have some pretty serious issues to deal with so they can get the game into more people's hands, but I'm hoping when that settles down they will stagger the maintenance.

I'm on Balmung and I didn't even realize it was dedicated to RP for some groups/sites. That's cool though, if you make it over here /welcome.

A large group of us that played together on FFXI are there. Relatively new to GAF, not new to FF online.

We've been trying to say otherwise. But folks insist on the fresh start experience. Well look at where the non-legacy servers are going to now.

I believe it was omelets friend that started fresh on our server is was making a killing on low level crafts.

I don't know if it has something to do with how SE does maintenance, but they never staggered for XI (if I remember correctly). They did however alternate between JP prime times and NA prime times, so they may go to that once they work out these core issues.

I've got 56k right now, but I jump around with leveling and only recently beat regular Titan. I tend to take gil for quest rewards since I'm leveling all of my crafting jobs.

So would you recommend I re-roll on there? I'm pretty broke already on Ultros at level 50 and thought leveling mining would help out but that doesn't seem to be the case presently.

I'm not recommending that. What do you need gil for? What kinds of expenses are static vs the gil in circulation?

Repairs.
Transportation.
Housing when it comes out, but this is a luxury, not a necessity.

Everything else can be obtained by gathering, crafting, farming monsters, or doing content like dungeons or player-to-player interaction.

Time is money and the value of your money is relative to the cash floating around in circulation on the server, which is in the hundreds if not thousands or tens-of-thousands of millions on a legacy server. Sure, it's easy to earn money on a legacy server from other players, but there really isn't anything in this game that is unobtainable if you're poor.

Ok, suppose I'll try leveling something there. Maybe even get into the GAF FC lol.

Repairs and probably whatever stuff I'll need for a relic weapon.

Well, it's mainly just something I'm considering at this point. I hate to burn any bridges, but, that aspect of MMOing is something I'd like to try too.

Really odd how they set their maintenance times. Blizzard would stagger maintenance times for different timezones (NA, EU, Asia, etc.) so to minimize the downtime for the most busiest times of the day. Hope Square eventually gets around to doing something like this.

Probably won't, Japan time all the time.

Does anyone else have problems with enemies and NPCs not loading? Happened multiple times to me today already (PS3), kinda annoying when you get attacked by invisible enemies.

Repair cost is going down so I wouldn't make drastic long-term plans based on that.

For relic weapon, you don't need to buy anything, technically, if you or a friend can craft and/or gather. Base weapon component is farmed from dungeon, then crafted into the usable starting form with very easy-to-get materials, then melded with 2 materia that you can make yourself by spiritbinding and converting gear. After that it's all getting quest clears by clearing boss fights.

For now, yeah. If the game continues to have a significant number of US subscribers however, they very well may add some remote administrators for the US servers at some point. I mean, I'm not predicting it exactly, but, if the games successful enough it'd probably make sense for them to do so, from a workload viewpoint.

Yes, all the time. It's a feature of the FFXIV on PS3 experience, have fun with it!

This game is going to be the #1 reason I end up buying a PS4, I just know it.

I'm level 43 and I have 40k. I've spent a little on gear, a little on materials, and so on. But I've also made things and sold them too.

That's most likely true, but I know I'm lagging behind other players too in terms of gil-on-hand on Ultros. I do have some stuff I could cash in if I needed to (tons of Allagan pieces), but haven't touched it yet.

Gathering might become profitable depending on what I'm selling and what crafts I end up perusing. I've made it to 25. but I am not looking forward to the next 25 levels in botany.

Just got a key for this. Turns out my friend's server is locked. Should I wait to use the key? I'm worried that if I don't wait it will start my free 30 days. I would like to get this thing registered though.

Adds a bit of real world flair to the game, don't you think? I imagine if I slaughtered all the people on the street in my neighborhood I'd probably end with 50 bucks and some change. That's why I've been manufacturing blocks of fish oil in the basement and selling them at the local flea market. Bills gotta get paid somehow!

Hm okay. Guess I'll give it another month maybe.

Well, the current speed running tactic is an obvious exploit and exploits should be fixed so...

It should be *fully* fixed, as in not making these mobs worthless, and should be left alone until then. Finishing a dungeon quicker isn't hurting anyone, even if it likely isn't intended. It's not like people are glitching the bosses or anything.

In what game have dungeons been money-makers? Definitely not the ones I've played.

FFXI dungeons made tons. Well it was endgame ish type content. Limbus dropped valuable coins, Dynamis still makes you good money today especially now that you can solo there and get a steady drop rate of currency and 100point currency. It's how I made money when I went back to ffxi.

Crafting to make money in FFXI was good depending on the craft, and you better believe it cost you a arm or leg to get that craft to 100+3. You rarely make money off of things you leveled a craft on (if you farm it yourself you might). The cheaper the craft the more competition. Meanwhile Dragon Bone, behemoth hide, or Ancient Coins are win win.

The people complaining about the economy make me extremely happy that I saved up about 400k gil from crafting and taking advantage of the first month of 1.0. I started playing again with the same character last week and managed to get from 1 to 35 PLD and haven't even touched my 400k savings. I will have to do more research to figure out how to not waste my savings.

You can still have a fresh start on Sarg, I've been avoiding my old classes until i get my new one (warrior) to 50. I'm at 49 now. there's been plenty of people doing the same quests as me all the way from level 1.

And i have loads of money.

Local stores are finally showing this in stock for me. Is this worth getting into? For reference, the only MMO's I've put a significant amount of time into are Guild Wars 1 and 2. I'd also likely be playing solo.

It's quite the opposite on Legacy servers.
You can make a killing aiming at the middle markets on legacy servers since all the legacy players do is try to one up eachother at the ilvl50+ gear and try to HQ endgame gear.

Meanwhile middling crafters just need to aim at the 35-45 range and make great money. Hell I've been making loads HQing gear for leveling crafters who no one seems to cater to and have been trying to make my prices reasonable.

I don't think you'll get far solo in this. Missions start requiring you to team up, and dungeons. Though you can spam fates solo (like GW2's events). Near the cap in a full party you start getting 10,000-20,000 exp per fate. Solo that number will be lower because of the lack of party bonuses. Fates are over faster than GW2 events though, but you may not be able to get enough damage in resulting in bronze, or silver (just like GW2) rating. Less exp and money rewards. Sometimes you may even not be qualified to get a reward if they kill everything too fast.

Man, I hope I can find people who are willing to run some of those 50 dungeons with me normally when I get back from my trip. The stories I've been reading about rushing and angst just make it all sound so terrible, especially for a first runthrough.

The PvE content is very solo-unfriendly. You have to do dungeons to advance your story and there aren't enough quests to get a character to level cap the first time, let alone subsequent times. If you are interested in gathering, that's like an entire game in itself, but you need to do the PvE content anyway to unlock the leve NPCs.

He can solo to the Leve npcs. I never partied in FFXIV betas and always got to that point.

How easy/intuitive is it to find people to party up with? I really like Guild Wars 2 because it was easy to party up with or work together in events and whatnot.

I haven't done the last two story ones yet (in fact I stopped playing XIV entirely until the economy issues are fixed), but I do want to see how it all ends. If you need a DRG dps to help you out I'd be more than happy to. Just send a PM my way when you get back from the trip.

Problem is that you need to do story quests to unlock more quests, which means having to eventually party up for the stupid story dungeons.

This game you literally cant beat solo. As it will force you to pug on several occasions for the dungeons.

There's a group finder, it's easy to get one. Maybe not as easy to run, though.

Its not finding people thats the problem, its finding ones who have an actual brain is.
