Ant Man moved up to Summer 2015

You think MoS2's run will be over by then? And that no other movies will release in that time period?

Yes? All of the other big 2015 movies already have dates and they are nowhere close to Ant Man.

someone else said it earlier, but Man of Steel had dropped to sixth place in its third weekend. The inclusion of Batman in the sequel will help things, but more than likely, the movie will still be pretty front-loaded and still do its biggest business in the first two weeks.

Exactly

Just like Heath Ledger did, right?
I guess I should have saved you the trouble and preempted this tired response. Heath didnt have a super hero bomb to his credit, he had already proven legit acting chops and I don't recall any large fan planned boycotts (not denying they existed, I just don't remember any). And at te end of the day, joker stole the show but it was a Batman movie first an foremost, he was an additional element. Not the same as your primary casting.

Antman is just as interesting. If they do it right. I mean the smartest man in the world but with severe self esteem issues? very intersting.
Smartest!?! Well, I guess he is smarter than Tony and Banner... So yea, I guess asshole Reed isn't in the same universe (yet).

Daredevil was far from a bomb. It made almost $200 million and Fox wanted a sequel so bad they wanted Affleck to direct it.

I've never heard of ant man, but the name alone (and the director) makes the film sound about 1 million more times interesting than superman vs batman.

If you really think anything like this will have any impact at all on the film's performance, then I don't know what to say dude. Majority of those guys will forget about any boycott once the first teaser drops anyway.

I think excitement about a project does give some idea about its relative success. I'm refuting the idea that this film is going to be some cinematic juggernaut that leaves bodies of other super heroes in its wake. Even the fans need to be convinced right now, and Avengers will eclipse it just like it eclipsed TDKR in spite of coming off the resounding success of TDK. Ant Man can ride Avengers' coattails and has nothing to worry about.

Batman/Superman is going to be absolutely enormous, no question. Those two together on screen will create enormous buzz worldwide.

This is 3 weeks after though, not a bad date. I would probably bump it a week or two into August. HOLY SHIT @ Disney's line up that year. Absurd.

Well the July date now makes sense as Disney just delayed Pirates 5 out of 2015. They are worried of Bruckheimer giving them another Lone Ranger...

Affleck is coming off of 3 critically acclaimed movies, 2 of which he starred in. His credibility as an actor is as high as it's ever been. Most teenagers today probably barely remember Daredevil or have probably never seen it. I really don't think he's going to hurt the movie as much as people think and I'd almost bet money that after the first trailer hits for BvsS, few people will have a problem with it once they've seen it in action. Most of the backlash is probably from people not being able to accept anyone but Bale as Batman since that was still so recent.

That said, I don't think Ant-Man coming a few weeks after is going to hurt it much. As it's been said, these movies are pretty front loaded and by week 3, it will probably have dropped a number of slots. Had this been a Justice League movie, that would be another story.

Affleck is coming off having directed (and starred in) the movie that won BEST PICTURE. Yet some people would rather yell about a movie he made ten years ago.

Heath Ledger was in a crappy Hercules-ripoff television series ten years before he was the Joker, but did anyone try to claim that would hurt the movie?

Also the guy who plays Captain America played the Human Torch in Fantastic Four and no one gave a shit.

You remember the whole Aurora shooting, right?

Disney is pushing back Pirates 5 as of today, looking like summer 2016.

But still nothing will come close to their big 1-2 punch of Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7.

Disney will hold the #1 spot at the box office from May 1st until July. That's going to be impressive.

Avengers will be #1 the weekends of May 1st, May 8th, May 15th.

Then, if it is released on Wednesday the 20th, Star Wars will hold the weekends of May 22nd, Memorial Day weekend, June 5th, maybe June 12th.

Then Inside Out will be #1 the weekend of June 19th.
