There is no bad gen of starters. Maybe gen 4 is most mediocre? Though turtwig and piplup get salvaged by badass final forms.
If I went by final forms only, 2 is my least favorite gen of starters. Typhlosion is ok but feraligatr and meganium aren't that interesting in hindsight.
Then gen 5. I like samurott and serperior is ok but emboar is downright fugly.
Starters:
Frokie evo - I liked this one right off the bat, easily the best of the 3 to me
Chespin evo - I kinda did a "wut?" at first, but now it's slowly starting to grow on me. I have to keep reminding myself it's a mole so it's not going to evolve into the most slim, cutest thing ever.
Fennekin evo - I hate this thing, I just can't find any love in my heart for it, sorry. Fennekin wasn't my favorite starter, but I could still see why people liked him but this evo kills any chance of me using it on my first or second playthroughs.
Fossil:
Littlefoot - This thing is so kawaii it's not funny. I'm loving it but it's typing worries me, could be a contender for the biggest Glassjaw of all Pokemon if it's stats and abilities aren't done corrently.
T-Rex - Fucking boss, that's all there is to say about this little guy. This gen's fossil Pokemon are easily my favorite design wise ever.
Others:
Mega Garchomp: Dat jaw..... Other than that, pretty awesome. You really can't hate anything with blades for hands.
Meowstick: Cute, simple, I like it
Alpacha: Simple and cute as well, I like the idea that you can customize by trimming it's fur
Fighting Mewtwo: (No comment)
Over all, I like the designs for mostly everything shown. My biggest hopes are that ALL the starters getting duel-typing this time around (I'll fucking murder someone if it's only the fire type that gets it again), and that Fennekin's final evo morphs as far away from that monstrosity it calls it's 2nd evolution.

I think the issue was how generic gen 2 starters looked. Gen one had just enough to be awesome but not enough to be "over designed" (I don't think any pokemon is over designed btw). Gen 2 had the least inspired starters with such plain looks but Feraligator was spared because crocodilians are awesome
Edit: for the people complaining about Garchomps chin, go look up the human skull right now and see why it's such an amazing touch

Gen 4 has the best starters imo, or maybe Gen 1. Can't decide. Anyway, those two are easily the best.

Quite like the Gen 4 designs. I liked Infernape a ton, Fire/Fighting bs aside. It's a good type, lol. Emboar was a fucking troll by GF though.
