I don't know of any cross class passives or traits.

Are you sure there are cross class traits?

If you look at your passives list in your ability window, they have affinities listed on them just like hot bar abilities. Most cross class passives though apply to similar classes or those that a class will go into.

You're not in a gaf FC that has lvl 50 crafters or will have? On Sarg, I have asked a few times for crafts from lvl 50 crafters and they've helped and even refused payment.

I won't refuse payment, but I'm also not going to go to the market board and calculate out the cost of what I just made and charge you some kind of difference or ask for large sums of money or something (to be honest, I'd generally rather have non-cash tips anyway, like shards/crystals or extra mats). But I invested months of time and lots of in-game resources into my crafting and I didn't do it just to sit around and make people free stuff all the time. I don't mind doing favors here or there for free of course, but if I'm crafting for free I'm essentially losing money, especially if my own mats/crystals are involved. Even with crafting being as streamlined as it is, making HQs (and when you can, why wouldn't you?) takes time, especially when making ingredients or batches of items.

Well, I put forth that dungeons shouldn't even drop (nor should tokens buy) armor/weapons with some exceptions. They should drop key ingredients players can't trade or sell and then the game could have a system in place (like it does for materia and did for repairs) for crafters to craft that gear to get straight into their inventory. Players wouldn't have to craft, but having to interact with a crafter (whether from a FC or picking up one from search/by reputation) is perfectly reasonable and encourages better community.

I wish it worked this way.

There's still room for that to happen, though. Right now, one thing to consider is that itemization for launch had to keep 1.x items in mind. Going forward, there will be no such factor holding them back, if indeed it's a factor now.

Knew they would axe speedruns.
YoshiP had expressed his extreme dislike of them way back in 1.0 and promised to abolish them completely.

Hope everyone got their runs in.

I'm at work, if this is true I've got some classes to level lol

This nerf really sucks, its now going to take me twice if not three as long to even get "qualified" for coil access. The problem with the system now is to many things work of tomes of Philosophy, if you want a relic you need to buy a 900 tome item.

Then if you want to use the alternative to darklight gear for example Vanya robe of healing, you need 9 potash just for the robe. Well that will cost you 1200 tomes; if you want the hat that another 1200 tomes, hands are 1200, leg are 2400, and feet are 1200. All n All a grand total of 7200 seal to get the mats to create one set of gear to even be good enough to step into coil dungeon. The other crafted sets for the job have the same requirement as well.

SE really needs to rethink either the amount of seals dropped or decrease the amount need because its really off base right now. With speed running it would have taken a month to do a couple of job but now I dunno.

No, the trash mobs don't directly drop anything of value. But it's pretty clear that the team considers the tomes a reward for clearing the mobs AND the bosses. Not just skipping all the mobs and doing the bosses only. That is how they've decided to balance these dungeons. That is your reason for killing them.

I get it if you don't like that, but I'm trying to figure out why people are insisting that these mobs aren't worth anything because they are.

Thank you for posting this.

I'm not saying I expect not to pay FC people. I understand everything you said. For any favors I have been given where they said don't worry about payment (where I supply the mats and shards) I hope there is someway I can help them out in the future. I'm very grateful for the help and hope I can return it to not only the helper but the rest of the FC. That's how we will be strong.

Perhaps I was premature in my anger over the changes they made. It seems that they have made the AK run far more rewarding than normal. On the first group of trash in there I was granted this.

Thank you Square. *tear*

Well, it's actually 1125 not 1200. Still a lot more than darklight, but darklight is plenty for coil with a good team, according to people clearing on OF. Mixtures of i60 AK gear, DL, and primal/relic weapons.

I think the 1125 cost is pretty brutal, but you can get by in DL. Crafted i70 is for rich/hardcore/patient people, not really required.

Depends on what you leveled on. Anyway, I never had any issues with getting them.
Me neither. But in that same vein no one has "issues" (meaning trouble, not complaints) killing trash in AK.

Of course Beastmen also dropped Gil, etc. but the original complaint was about volume and given drop rates of seals there is Less trash to kill per AK boss than BCNM boss. Secondary awards from that trash still varies thi

Maybe they could stagger it with checkpoints? Like if the dungeon gave you 100 tomestones overall but at each mid-boss you would get X amount and certain trash mobs at certain points would give you X amount that all goes towards the 100 tomes in the end. Possibly make the boss drop 50 and the other 50 are earned by going through the run.

Interestingly, FFXI now has what is essentially a variation on this system in some of the "dungeon" content in its newest expansion. It seems to work pretty well, because even if things go south very late in the run, it doesn't end up as a total loss and waste of time.

If they don't want to give mobs tome drops, then give a bonus based on the % of enemies killed in a dungeon with a solid one for 100% of mobs cleared at the end.

Have they provided any concrete details on server transfers? I really want to join GAF on Ultros, but I feel invested in my PLD, even though he's only lvl 40 :(

That'd be a nice alternative too. SE really needs to get on this! 4-6 weeks of mundane grinding for an armor set is just terrible. I know all about grinding for gear - come on, I'm a Monster Hunter nut and I know it can take days of grinding for a weapon or armor set, but weeks?!

No concrete details other than "coming later this month".

The seals man. You couldn't get into the fight without those seals :). Trash mobs, farming for seals.

Oh, ha. I dunno, never had an issue getting enough seals for BCNMs just through normal means. It would be nice if XIV had a similar system, where you can obtain tokens to do these kinda fights as you're leveling classes.

And yeah, at the very least trash mobs should be dropping like 50-100 gil each. I don't see the point in dropping 1 fucking gil.

So I'm only 28 on my main class right now (MAR working toward WAR with my GLAD already leveled past 15) so I'm not understand some of the issues here since it's apparently something I haven't encountered yet.

Can someone explain what Tomes are to me? I don't know what they are or what they're used for.

Also, questions about dungeons and chests. On the "non-loot" chests (the chests that have items but they aren't "loot" that you Need/Greed/Pass on) does only the first person that opens them get what's in them or is that a "party opens and gets stuff" kind of chest? I ask because on my last dungeon the same person opened every one of those chests (even though I could swear I clicked on a few first) and they were the only ones I saw getting Algan pieces, etc.

In order to get the next progression of gear past the last lvl 50 4-man instance you need to purchase gear using tomes that drop in all instances and primals once you hit 50. The best place to farm these tomes had been Amdapor Keep, generating 70 tomes of philosophy and 40 tomes of mythology per run.

This gear really comes into play once you move into Hard Mode Titan and the Binding Coil of Bahamut, so unless you have a couple pieces of it you might be stuck for a couple weeks doing the same instances over and over.

They seem to be for upgrading the AF gear, the endgame iconic gear you get for your class/job.

In other words nothing we need to worry about yet.

EDIT: Or he can explain it.

So...I'm pretty sure if I hardcore fate grind, I could reroll on Ultros and get 50 in a few days. Would I be dumb throwing away 40 levels on another server?

I know. But my fear is in a week I'll be even more invested in my character and really not want to start fresh.

What do you mean by that? If you get invested into your character and the server transfers are available in a week, why would you need to reroll and start fresh? Grinding to 50 on a new character/server is going to take a long time...

It would be cool if we also started doing Garuda HM and Titan HM sometime this weekend or next weekend too. Titan HM would be wipe city until we were all better geared but it would be fun to learn that fight.

4chan's guild (Golden Ratio/ZR) have a number of members already progressed past Garuda HM and they were busy wiping to Titan HM last weekend for quite some time. I'm not trying to start a server rivalry but the two largest guilds on Ultros by far are NeoGAF and 4chan and right now the Vidyas are easily winning the race for progression even though we are a guild roughly twice as large as theirs in membership, including our overflow LS and theirs.

It's much easier to coordinate with smaller numbers. Hopefully things will be much more manageable after the free trials have expired. In the mean time:

I just posted 2 Ifrit HM events and 1 Garuda HM event. Sign up via the calendar on the site!

Depending on turnout for these events and where everyone is by the end of next week, we may start adding a scheduled Titan HM as early as next weekend.

I held off long enough and am now thinking about melding some materia onto my Giantsgall War Axe. Anyone do this recently? Any suggestions here? Was thinking of going full STR but I already put a lot of attribute points into hat and am unsure what the STR cap is, if any at all.

Wait so I'm getting conflicting Info regarding the changes - Dark Matter 5. Can I farm this out in the world, or does it only drop from AK?

If the latter... God damn it square.

So, I thought MRD was kind of boring (played it up to level 18) - will GLD be any better? I mean, the boomerang shield lob thing might be cool >_>

I mean, they're both tank classes with fairly analogous skills (ie. Tomahawk in MRD is basically Shield Lob, right?). Leveling GLD is rather necessary to get Provoke though.

Jesus christ.

The stories I hear from endgame are leagues worse than anything I encountered in any MMO.

Only thing comparable would be a MOBA.

If you think MRD is boring I'd hate to see what you think of GLD. It's more or less the same thing, just with more boring and vanilla skills.

Any DRGs care to weigh in on this? Right now I have Internal Release, Fracture, Second Wind, Featherfoot and Bloodbath as my additional skills. First two are obvious, Second Wind can give me a nice boost if things get dicey, Featherfoot if I have to tank or OT something, but Bloodbath? I'm wondering if leveling up my PUG to 42 and getting Mantra is all that great, considering that it's only a 5% increase.

I definitely noticed a change in the attitude of people in the endgame dungeons, such a shame.

That guy Valk (a tank) decided to go afk for the rest of the dungeon as well -_-.

You're missing the point. It's boring. In dcuo the mobs and sub bosses would randomly drop crafting plans and styles. Even people with the absolute best gear would return to these instances because the promise of random, rare drops from mobs kept it somewhat interesting. If there is literally nothing to end game dungeons besides marks(tomes) towards gear at the end then I for one will get bored really fast. There needs to be some reason to Kill the trash other than 'get to the boss fight'. In my opinion anyway.
