Man - it sucks that FATEing seems to be the way to go levelling. It's really not so fun.
Is it literally all instances? Including the earlier dungeons? In order to get the next progression of gear past the last lvl 50 4-man instance you need to purchase gear using tomes that drop in all instances and primals once you hit 50. The best place to farm these tomes had been Amdapor Keep, generating 70 tomes of philosophy and 40 tomes of mythology per run.

You should grab a few folks and go around beating up beastmen and whatever mobs while nabbing a random Fate. It's really solid XP and if you do it in places other than the most populated zones, you can make the most out of a Fate. Fighting mobs above your level gives good XP and is still fairly easy in a group.
Pretty sure the "patch notes" from a couple days ago had said they would be drops as well.

Speak for yourself.
I and many others are here for that "slow mess". As a seven year Final Fantasy XI veteran, I had just as much fun clearing story missions as I did doing end game content. I'm digging the story in Final Fantasy XIV as well so far, and I'm in no rush to burn through it and skip cutscenes just to get high end gear faster.
That is always the worst part of MMO's. Running raids/dungeons so many times to get better gear. Is that what people mean when they say "The game starts at<level cap>"? If so, then no it doesn't. The game, for me, ends at lvl cap if that is the case. Running a dungeon the first time is the best. Running it the 10th time just to get a drop is the worst, ESPECIALLY if it is the end game and it won't really help you.
I enjoy working through raids, learning and perfecting the mechanics, and seeing how well I can play my class.
Same, only Red Summer Top along with a Green one.Red Summer Top will be with me forever.

You can't even store the new swimwear in the Armoire [at least, you couldn't a couple days ago] and the same goes for duplicate items. It's so strange how they won't let you destroy an item. I guess I'll store them on my Retainer and eternally waste those two lots. -_-

Hm, I was able to click discard on the pair I accidentially bought. The first 30 ash set listed.Same, only Red Summer Top along with a Green one.

No.
Phil drops:
Castrum Meridianum
The Praetorium
The Wanderer's Keep
Myth:
Ifrit Hard
Phil + Myth:
Amdapor Keep
I forget if I got tomes when I beat Garuda. But it's only 4 for Ifrit, so negligible at best.
Anyhow, just had a quick thought, after re-reading that IGN review. Seeing as some of the speed runners are asking for MOBA features, such as vote kick options, to get rid of players that want to watch cut scenes, how likely do you think it is, that these people are members of the MOBA community, that just so happen to be moonlighting?
This isn't to disparage that community or anything, but, if these are MOBA players, a good large chunk of them are likely to disappear once they're required to sub. After all, this community is used to Free to Play, for the most part.

Please don't encourage him. :|
No this is what happens when the game actually freaking starts in end game so everyone tries to level everything to the cap to get to it
Also whew are you to tell ppl how to play their game?
Bye no one is here for that slow mess. The game starts @ 50
As evidence shows everyone and their minion leveling to get to 50 so they can do the fun stuff
I think the community will definitely be on the upswing once subscriptions start kicking in. That day can't come soon enough.
So, if I'm in a decent group, how much XP can I expect to get from this "Dark Devices" Fate?
I'm sorry, I thought the game started when I logged in the first time? Didn't know all this story content and fun I've been having isn't part of the game. Stupid me, I should have known the fun doesn't start until you grind FATEs to 50 and then complain about having to run a single dungeon over and over again for tomes.
And I don't care how you play your game, it's just annoying it's the same kind of people who race to the end that bitch there is nothing to do, or what there is to do is a "grind" when they've completely done it to themselves.
The fun stuff? Like speed running AK 50 times and then when SE fixes it complaining that the reason you speed run is because it's boring otherwise? Yeah, sounds real fun! If you guys were really having fun, this patch wouldn't bother you. But the fact that many of you have flat out said the exact opposite, I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit. And here's a newsflash, half the people who raced to cap because "that's where the game starts" won't even be playing the game this time next month. That's how much fun they are having. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy of disappointment that these people can't stop repeating and they will do it in the next game that comes along too and it's not SE's or Blizzard's or SOE's fault...it's their own.
The day cannot come soon enough.
I'm enjoying my time getting from 1 to 50, no interest in end game grinding.
To be honest I had more fun in 1-50 than endgame content. Mostly due to the frustration gathered from some DF parties than the content itself.
Also Speed running is not fun.
I enjoy working through raids, learning and perfecting the mechanics, and seeing how well I can play my class. I don't really see SE upping the level cap with every three month update.
IT IS

So, what's the gear progression at endgame like, then?
It sounds pretty fucking horrible, if these last few pages are anything to go by. I almost don't even want to bother...
I heard 150k exp.
Don't know if the FATE have been nerfed from today patch, though.

Horrible why, because you can't get the best gear in one week?
Vote kick is a MOBA feature? Vote-kick's been in WoW forever.
Also, Fate Farming as a BLM sucks.
All I get to use is Scathe, everything else has to high a cast time to do any damage at all.
No need to get that linear, you can probably do Garuda with AK gear or even do AK with AF gear and a decent weapon or do Relic weapon steps in the middle of that progression.
It's Tomestones not TOMBSTONES.
Not like we're skipping into a graveyard and picking up a poorguy's tombstone and carrying it off.
Maybe, I've never played WoW, and I have no interest in starting. However, the abuse of the Vote Kick in the MOBA community is somewhat notorious. So that's what I associate with it.
Also, for the people complaining about, "not enough rewards."
You seriously need loot to justify continuing to play? Is the gameplay not fun for you otherwise? More then half the time I end up clicking "Pass," on all the loot anyway, either because I can't use it, or because other people need them more.
The game play itself is fun, that, and community interaction, justifies the time spent running dungeons additional time. If you're going to treat this like a job, and thrown a tantrum because you're required to actually, "play," a dungeon properly to get a reward, then this probably isn't the right genre for you.
I hate saying that, really, I'm not in the habit of burning bridges, and I can certainly understand the desire to get a little something extra out of the trash mobs. None of that however, means that Square shouldn't patch out an obvious exploit, nor does that justify some of the borderline abusive behavior some people are demonstrating towards players that want to watch the cut scenes.
Finally.
I myself, am planning to take end game content slowly, as it has to last me two months. So I'll be splitting roughly half my time between end game content, and leveling up additional classes. Which, as far as I can tell, is how the game is meant to be played. Seeing as they're talking about slowly releasing additional lower level quests, in order to help players level those secondary jobs.
