2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Feel free to post 720p images from console games chock full of atrocious aliasing and low res textures. I'll wait.

Man, didn't video game fields used to look better? My roommate was playing NCAA 13 on 360 today and I could have sworn fields didn't always look so rotten.

That field has the texture of a green basketball.

FIFA has always had shitty grass textures. The PS4/XBO version looks better I think, but from what PES has shown they look like they might finally get grass right.

Are those Fifa14 shots with AA of some kind?

Yup, that's 4xMSAA. I'm gonna try supersampling later, but from what I've seen it ain't gonna set the world alight. PES looking like a far, far prettier game.

I don't have screen capture card but just wait till I get a xbox one or ps4, then I'll show you!!

Ok I'll exit the thread............... (for now)

This seems to work for me. I'm using sweetFX for SMAA and screenshots in Deadspace 3 and also have fraps running...but piped to my LCD display not on screen.

Just tried with the onscreen display and it does work.

Weird. I wonder if it's just for certain games then because apparently others are saying it doesn't work with Rome 2 which is a shame since I want to take some screens with some custom settings but want to have Fraps up to see how it's running still.

I think they said it's because they both use the d3d9.dll but I want to find a way to check my framerate while taking these screens. Thanks for the answer.

Because the glory of Rome shall be known in this thread!

NP. Not sure about the DLL. Are you using any other overlays that may be conflicting with FRAPS? I don't have Rome II so can't check...although I'd love to see more pictures of it.

Stallion Free, I like your Dark Souls shots because they are some of the only Dark Souls shots that don't seem to be super dark or black-crushed.

And those GTA shots with Sonic, I thought it was TheVampire for a second. =P

Besides Steam overlay, no and that might not work depending on some of the Rome 2 configs as well oddly enough. I had the same problem with BF3 where the SweetFX wouldn't be turned on if I had Fraps running.

Either way, I think I'll take some screens tomorrow and test out some configs. Rough launch but still one of my favorite games.

Lol that's because I keep it pure and never touch SweetFX.

Actually, one of the main issues is that when you actually have DSFix just output an image at your rendering resolution it looks like it doesn't take whatever your brightness setting in game is into account.

The best choice (or at least what I've liked) is usually to render at some huge resolution, display at some less huge resolution for the benefits of downsampling to be visible (like 3240p down to 2160p) then with those 4k images spit out, you resize back down to 1080p.

What method are you going for for getting your shots?

1620p rendering, 1080p display (TV), using Durante's screenshot hotkey which takes the 1620p image in .bmp and comes hudless. Then I downsample in PS using Bicubic Sharper, my fav. It's fantastic and I wish all games had a button to do that.

Blacks become crushed pretty easily when people just crank up curves without bringing up darks with LGG. I used SweetFX to make my game brighter because I felt like vanilla dark souls was too dark\dull for screenshots (for my tastes, anyways). But SweetFX doesn't capture brightness settings, and that's what I like to use for my captures regardless. This game was a struggle to make brighter while still retaining that dark look (I probably failed)

This isn't a perfect comparison but shows what I mean:

Either way, I would love a DSFix for just about every game in existence.

I caved in the end. It's a pity, but a higher resolution gives me shimmering blurry TresFX hair. Also, not having a freecam or timestop is an absolute sin in this game.

Was just screwing around testing out that resolution. Nice benefit of giving you pretty thin outlines in that game. Sadly lots of AA is needed to smooth them out more

So the trick works, nice! Borderlands 2 sure looks different at that resolution, the outlines are so thin and it looks beautiful.

Ah man, I'd been trying to avoid seeing this guy yet :(

I think maybe 'this' was supposed to be a link. I'm using SG Female Textures Renewal

Thank you .

sorry for not including a link.

It took me a while to figure out what was breaking everything. Sadly I didn't have a ton of time to explore the game and take better shots. I just loaded up a character and flew around with a free camera a bit. But it works well.

I had issues with Dishonored and SweetFX. I want to see if I can get that working.

It's pretty cool that you can force any game into windowed mode that way. Some games flat-out refuse to include that. The Assassin's Creed games come to mind.

Combination of SoftTH and D3D Looking Glass to play games at > 4K resolutions. It's a wonky process but it seems more reliable (so far) than SRWE.
