Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Forgot what the system music sounded like so I turned it back on again. It's terrible. They should really replace it with something more ambient and less like elevator music. Or just remove it all together.

Taxi Journey is another Kickstarter project that will appear on Vita if the $220K stretch goal is met. It's a unique puzzle/adventure game that looks interesting, but I'm not sure if it'll be fun to play...

Platinumed Assassin's Creed: Liberation. Multiplayer trophies were a pain, but Netflix and Mr. Don Draper made it a lot more bearable.

I've been building a few levels in LBP and I can understand the temptation, making puzzle platformers is relatively easy to be honest, especially when (as they usually do) tie the puzzle directly to actual progression. Frequently the platforming itself might as well be Uncharted style.

Not to take anything away from very talented people who do make Puzzle Platformers, or anyone who is attempting one. It's just easy to see why they're so prevalent.

Okay, I don't have the privileges to make a thread, and this is the best place I found to ask this, since it's about PS1 Classics:

I can't find Wild Arms 2 or Jumping Flash! 2 anyway on the store. I know for a fact they used to be there, were they removed? Has there been any word on this I missed?

edit: North American store, for clarification.

Can't help you by looking but are you looking through the Vita store or PS3?

Looks like Limbo ;)

And for gods sake 2D puzzle platformers are indie version of CoD FPSes.

IMO the indie scene is evolving like gaming across generations.

Right now, most indies are "in the SNES era": metroidvania, puzzle-platformers, RPGs with 16-bit graphics and some graphic adventure games. They are (relatively) easy to develop and cheap. Another limitation could be that they use their own engines. I don't know about programming, but I suppose it's easier to build a 2D engine than a 3D one.

With Unity I think quite a few indies will jump to the 3D. Indie is getting more popular, so is easier to reach higher goals in KS and to make profits. Unity is not that expensive and console manufacturers are getting more open to the scene. Heck, it's awesome that Microsoft wants to make every X1 a dev kit.

Eh, not really. There's a ton of 3D indie games, and there's a few indie games that push 3D graphics to their limits.

It's more like reverse evolution - as bariers of entry get lower and lower the more people who wouldn't be previously capable of doing games start to enter industry.

it pains me that Puppeteer isn't on the Vita :(

I feel the same. When this game and Rain was announced, my first thought was "these would be amazing on Vita".

In the latest RedSunGamer podcast, there was an interview with Gavin Moore, and they did ask him about Puppeteer on Vita (around 4hours in). He said that during the early stages of development, they didn't even know that the Vita was a thing. They also talk about how it may not work because sometimes things are a bit too zoomed out for a small screen.

Yeah, seems like a match made in heaven. I'm waiting at least a year before I'll get the PS3 version. Want it on that OLED.
Puppeteer may be a platformer, but it is a very tech ically accomplished platformer on the ps3. The vita will struggle to run it in its current state. I wouldn't et my hopes up. It won't be an easy port.

I enjoy an occasional puzzle-platformer but it does feel like every other Vita game is one at the moment.

I just tried out the Diablo III demo on PS3 and now I wish there was a similar game on Vita, even a port of the DeathSpank trilogy would be great!

this is such an unfortunate piece of news :( sigh but I hope with Sony's new direction, things get better!

Eh, not really. There's a ton of 3D indie games, and there's a few indie games that push 3D graphics to their limits.

Yes, there are. But what I mean is that most indie developers (specially those who are not known) do 2D games because they are "easier". There are amazing indies with 3D graphics like Amnesia or Dear Esther, but most games are still 2D. Although as the industry becomes more accesible (thanks Unity) we are seing more and more games evolving to a 3D world.

It's more like reverse evolution - as bariers of entry get lower and lower the more people who wouldn't be previously capable of doing games start to enter industry.

Indie games are getting bigger and more complex because the technology is evolving. It's getting more accesible, but i think it's a way to evolve.

Videocameras are easier to use right now than 20 years ago. Revealing photographs is way easier now than 10 years ago. And is easier to shot competent pictures. Heck, even my mobile can do it. This is technology evolving although i'm not talking about a thousand megapixels or 8k TVs.

I'm getting a 12-hours flight, a RPG should be awesome to kill time.

Then I saw TitS is $19.99 since forever (sales, Xseed). Too expensive. It's time to open Muramasa Rebirth then :(

I’m thinking about collecting full set too now that the Vita game prices are low. I have about half now. Are the any other special editions in EU besides those too? Also I can’t seem to find Jonah Lomu Rugby cheap enough anywhere.
Yeah, that is what i'm also thinking, most of the Vita games are cheap now, and there arent tons of games coming out for it, so getting a full set shouldnt be too hard and not too expencive.

I only know of these two limited editions in Europe.

I got Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge for £20 at Game.co.uk, but that was a while ago, so i'm not sure if they have more left in stock.

That's beautiful, my friend. I only have 1/3rd the amount you do (about 20). I just can't help but buy some of the retail games digitally whenever there's such an amazing deal. I still don't have as many retail games as you, even counting digital. I probably have 35 retail games total, and then 40-50 PSN titles.

Edit: My cute lil colllection:

(Yes, I have two copies of Resistance. When I bought my second Vita for $100, it came with Resistance, CoD, and Dungeon Hunter. I already had Resistance.)
Nice collection! :)

thats a really nice collection.

good on you.

all hail vita king.

what size memory do you have?

you gotta start importing ;)
I only have a 16GB memory card. It was the biggest card available in Europe (at least officially) when the Vita launched. I will get the 64GB card sooner or later :)

I have Dokuro (not sealed) and Sumioni (sealed) imports, but only those two games. I might import some games that only came out in the US and Japan :)

Impressive
, especially since you managed to acquire a copy of Legends of War without mysteriously disappearing.
Oh, is there a problem with this game not being delivered? I actually have two copies, i bought them both from Zavvi.com

That's ace :) Are you missing Little Deviants?
Ah, for some reason i have overlooked that game, thanks for noticing! I do have the game, i bought it at launch, but its not sealed anymore. I will get a sealed copy now, i already contacted some sellers :)

I love my Vita, bur cringe knowing only 64 games have come out in Europe for it. Don't know the number for the US, but that's still shockingly small.
Yeah, there arent many retail games indeed, but there are some retail games that only saw digital release in Europe (like Ragnarok Odyssey, Earth Defence Force 2017 Portable, Dokuro and some of the Atelier games), and then there is also all the smaller titles that only excist as digital download. In total, i think that around 100 games have been released for the Vita in Europe.

Wow, that's epic. You've got double what I do in the US (1 JP & 2 UK) and none of mine are sealed. I have about 6 more I want to get. Whatever Vita's fate (and that of physical media), I think you'll have some serious ebay prospects in the future.
Cool :) Yeah, if i decide to sell my collection, i hope to make some money. But its hard to say how sought after these games will be in the future, right now i'm collecting mostly for my own enjoyment =)

Wow that's an impressive collection, congrats.
Wow guys, those are some awesome collections. Congrats.

Now tweet them to Shahid while also asking what's up with the VitaJRPG movement ;)
Wow, this is really impressive! Congrats!
You're fucking crazy man. Crazy in a good way.
Thanks everyone! :)

Spelunky is now getting on my bad side.
It is || <---- this close to getting deleted.
While I am not deleteing it anytime soon, I feel your pain. I can not seem to ever get far. At all. I try and try. Take my time, go slowish, but I always get killed by something very dumb. 260+ deaths, made it to 3-2 once. All you talking of Olmec? Yea bite me. One of these days I shall be able to proudly say that too.
I just tried out the Diablo III demo on PS3 and now I wish there was a similar game on Vita, even a port of the DeathSpank trilogy would be great!
So. Much. This. DC is the next closest thing I feel, but sadly the best we can hope for is remote play D3 on PS4 D;

We can dream Vitabros! Maybe some awesome kickstart will happen...Heck even if it was Pixelized!!

the developer has mentioned about a Vita/PS4 version so VitaGAF, get your wallets and back this game

it just looks tooooo goood

I think that some of you might be interested in this.

The team consists of Alex Preston (Samurai Gunn), Beau Blyth (Samurai Gunn), Disasterpeace (Fez OST) and Baths (here is a little taste of his fantastic music). Please check out the Announcement Trailer on the Kickstarter page before passing judgement (I did try to find an alternative source, but it seems like they haven't uploaded it elsewhere). The game looks amazing in motion.

They are aiming for a mid 2014 release on Steam. I think they are getting fast-tracked to Steam thanks to the confirmed Steam release of Samurai Gunn.

I hope that you guys are okay with this post, if this sort of thing is frowned upon, please let me know. I am not a part of the development team.

Today i completed (so far) my european Vita retail games collection :) I got Rayman Legends today. I think these are all games that came out in Europe, but please tell me if any games are missing. All these games are still sealed except Killzone, but i have extra copies of those games that i want to play.

What a beautiful sight. You make me want to double-dip and pick up some retail games.

A bunch of reallllllly cheap deaths on what were perceived to be changing rules at the time.
Like changing heights from which you can drop safely, impossible to see instant deaths, bad hitboxes on the spike traps, changing activation distances on the arrow traps, etc.

As far as I know the drop distance an arrow trap distance is constant. I could definitely test that theory. I still get caught by arrow traps once in a while, but that's blindly running into an unforeseen area of the map willy-nilly

I assume you mean the tiki traps in the jungle, no? The hit box is the same, but it's not "active" the entire time the spikes are protruding. It's pretty much when they spring to the full extent that they become active.

I just died, again, from a smash trap off screen (under me) and there was nothing I could do about it. Like, I suppose if I had cat-like reflexes, maybe, but you have to expect something like that and react to it.

Was at 420K, level 4-2 and just about to open the golden city as well lol

For instance, the arrow trap that had me foaming at the mouth... I threw something down, it didn't trigger the 2nd one (one close on left, one far on right lower)... so since the first was triggered and the second had either blind triggered or wasn't in distance, I dropped along the same path. And was smashed in the face by an arrow.

--

That Hyper Light Drifter looks awesome... but I don't see PS4/Vita mentioned anywhere on the main page.

if you're not 100% that they went off, you should try using your whip in that situation. You can deflect arrows.

makes ya feel like a pimp

He mentioned a possibility of Vita/PS4 depending on the stretch goals met in his first update

My son (4) went with his grandmom to get a game yesterday. For some reason, he bought Katamari after I had just purchased it in that sale for $3.75. Thankfully he didn't open it so I exchanged it for LBP for him.

Katamari is good, but not good enough to own 2 copies of it

Yea, he even told his grandmom that we have it. he just really wanted it on his vita, for some reason or another.

Like, if he grabbed my vita, closed whatever I had opened and went straight to Katamari on multiple occasions, I might let him keep it. He's played the game once, liked it, but prefers I play it instead.

Fighting games on the other hand, he'll go into training mode, put energy so it doesnt recover, and will just spam super until the computer dies, then repeat that until he gets a perfect. He'll then go pick another team and repeat the process over and over again. He's probably put at least 100 hours into Marvel doing this.

I purchased a second copy of that during the sale ($10) not because I don't like sharing, but I would turn the game on and go directly to ranked match, get paired, try to do a move as soon as the round starts with Wesker (like option-select air-grab which is just forward + heavy) and he goes right into a super.

X-[

i think he was just like

"daddy has this on his BEE-TAH. I want this for my BEE-TAH"
"well let's pick something else out you don't have"
"I want this me-maw"

he's pretty damn stubborn
