Sure, what she went though is bad but that has nothing to do with the writing job. They're are plenty of struggling writers out their with experience.

Sure, having experience is one thing. Understanding the industry and videogames whilst also being able to write is another.

Exactly, at least she has a degree more related to the Fine Arts, rather than some indie tech wiz who only understands maths and tries to write one.

Zombie Studios can do what ever they please but I don't think it is a particularly offensive idea to have a dose of skepticism over someone with absolutely no writing experience.

I'll never forget her hijacking IGN's Nintendo podcast to talk about how Mass Effect 1 was the best game ever on their special Mario Galaxy launch podcast.

...funny how she later ended up in Mass Effect. One of the easily bought "journos" in the industry. Awful figure.

I enjoyed it because she lied about her game knowledge to get the job and Matt and bozon ripped into her for being awful. A lot of users called her out too and it didn't take long before ign moved her into simply a pretty face.

There's a video where they ask why she's qualified for the game writer job her answer is because she's watched scary movies and loves violence. I don't have high hopes for this one.

Pretty much. People can't fault her for taking the opportunities given to her. I don't know anybody who would say, "Ehh, maybe somebody else who worked harder for this job should get it". Its just how it is. You can look at most of the big name screenwriters in Hollywood( ex. Roberto Orci). Their stuff isn't any better than the guy sitting in his house writing. They just had the opportunity given to them, whether its through networking or whatever. That's what it is. Doesnt really matter how good you are if nobody gives you a chance.

To be fair, their games would probably be even better if they did find writers who actually know what they're doing instead of doing it themselves.

Ok buddy. An optional side character that's at the bottom of your ship that you never have to talk to is why the game was such a piece of shit. or you could just completely ignore her, since you know, she's not even a minor character.

Automatically assuming that writing minority/female characters will somehow preclude well-written characters is problematic.That argument is basically imagining devs saying "Well, we have this really well written white male protagonist, but let's throw that out because society says we should have more women and minorities." The issue is that consideration of women and minorities is not given equally at the conception level. This problem also exists in real life employment. However, in this case Jessica Chobot was specifically asked to write up an outline which was then pitched to and picked up by Atlus-yet some people see her as being "unqualified" or "taking someone else's place."

However, the reason the complaints might not be valid is simply that not having the track record or confirmed credits to back her up does not automatically mean she's going to do a bad job.

I could list pages of examples of freshman talent who hit it out of the park.

the thing is, you don't have to be a trained writer to be a good writer. it helps, but I know people who have degrees and couldn't write a good story if their lives depended on it. If she has good ideas, and knows what she wants to do with the story, she would only need a little guidance, or somebody to go over her draft and organize it more.

I don't think it just works with women. It's good looking people on average. I have a friend who's very handsome and he's leaps and bounds ahead of where his skills could take him and we all know it's because he looks like he stepped out of GQ.
