I have no idea if I'm allowed to sign my posts with my name anymore. I'm pretty sure that mod that said I (and only I) couldn't do that is no longer a mod. All I want to do, out of everything in life, is just sign my own posts and spend an entire weekend editing every post I've ever made on GAF to have that signature. Is that really too much to ask?

I'll buy a mod Rogue Legacy if I can sign my posts from now on. I'm not above public bribes.

So I'm Googling about the "RIP in peace" thing, and I came across this:

It's a joke based on how badly educated american gamers use it.

"You only YOLO once" was spawned from it.

Ive always liked this since only Fnordchan and Pimpwerx do it. Take it easy, friend.
Wrong.

A recent addition is someone who I've seen a few days ago - a Junior who signs everything with "Tim". Goodbye.

There are others.

Puns. Not only are they awful most of the time, but you end up with 3 pages of reaction gifs, #dead, /thread, "you win the thread", etc.

Also after reading my post people who keep calling criticism "outrage." It's really making discussions terrible.

I agree, I don't need to be a prude to disagree with something.

On the matter of debate topics then yes
I really hate this, Us vs Them mentality. Excuse me, I have my own opinion and want to contribute to the topic with it.

This doesn't happen often but people that put words into my mouth, adding me to a certain demographic. For example.

Me: Indie Title X, looks pretty terrible.
Random guy: Well just because you don't shoot a gun in a corridor, doesn't mean it sucks, maybe you should stop playing Call of Duty: X Y, you damn casual.
Me: I haven't played Call of Duty once in my life.

That only gets worse in delicate topics like religion, politics or sexually.

Speculation threads. They are useless.

'Do you think X will announce (some interesting product idea) within the next Y years?'

Why don't you ask them directly? GAF isn't a crystal ball (except CBOAT)

The people who unnecessarily swear. Like 'fuck this shit I can't even deal' 'fuck this guy and fuck his bullshit notions'.

Like, I get you're upset, no need to swear so much.

It's a discussion board, people like to speculate. Most everything we say on gaf could be called "useless."

"Bwahahaha"

Bwa? Are you serious with that shit? Is your name Dexter and do you have a secret laboratory under your house? No.

It's probably the douchiest thing that's written on this board because it's always used to disparage someone who has an alternate opinion.

People that are hypercritical and think everything either sucks or is amazing. Aka half of GAF.

I think that's one of the worst things about this forum, if not the worst part. The amount of games that get called something like "total shit" here is ridiculous

People who don't actually read a thread before they post in it.

People who spoiler-tag their speculation.

Both are some self-important shit.

The first says "look - I don't really give a shit what any of you said, but MY musings are pretty important, so fuck whatever you guys might have been talking about, everyone stop and pay attention to what *I* have to think, and answer *my* questions. Because I don't really have time to even skim what's been going on so far"

The second.is some "Look, I'm just guessing, but I'm pretty fucking smart, so chances are I'm right, even though I'm 99% wrong, and I have absolutely nothing to do with the creation of this property - but on the off chance the sun shines on my ass and I actually DID guess correctly out of thin air, I'm going to protect you from my prognosticating GENIUS and spoiler-tag my guess."

Wrong.

I like it as a novelty, but news of it spreading is...troubling. Quarantine this shit before it gets out of hand.

There are quite a few things that can annoy me, but watching two posters who (more or less) agree with each other have a slapfight because they're too focused on scoring points to actually read what the other person is saying is certainly up there.

This is the one thing that annoys me the most too. I am generally pretty easy going, and though certain folks who seem to have vendettas annoy me a bit, nothing is worse than watching two people snipe at each other just for the sake of sniping.

People referring to religions as "mythologies". People referring to male feminists as "white knights". These are GAF things lately I guess.

I can't abide contractions generally, "to be honest" and "for what its worth" are both a) easy to type b) completely vacuous.

If you type "tbh", just do everyone a favor a delete it. I hope you're being honest, and every time I read it I have no choice to make an immature raspberry trying to pronounce it.

tbh, based on the definition of the word myth, religions ARE myths.

a traditional story, esp. one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events.

Myths don't have to be incorrect.

People that are proud to be wrong

Inciteful threads that are waaaaaaay too broad

Threads that obviously need pictures but neither OP nor respondents supply

Whenever I type up a well thought out opinion and then delete it all instead of posting

I also tend to post gifs too. But only for joking stuff, never for serious stuff.

At...at least my gifs aren't the ones everyone posts?

..right?

Myths don't have to be incorrect.

I don't think talking about religion as mythology is a big problem, though it likely depends on context.

On the other hand, "fairy tales," "magic man in the sky," "the crazed imaginings of desert tribesmen," and the like are clearly just meant to be insulting. People really need to stop doing that.

That's only one definition. Others are "something that people wrongly believe to be true"
and "widely held but false belief or idea"

I find the definition I linked very accurate for religion though. All religions have origin stories about the origin of life, the universe, evil, good, etc...

Is that not the definition most people mean when referring to a religion as a myth? Creation myth seems fairly common and I never hear it used derisively.

Yeah. I suppose it depends on context. I think most people use those terms you listed when they want to insult religion. Myth as a descriptor seems a lot more neutral and respectful.

There are a ton of things I could list, but the most recent one that's really gotten on my nerves are people who think their opinion is special enough to be deserving of its own thread. No one gives a shit that you think X game is the worst ever made, or Y movie is the greatest of all-time. If you want to actually discuss something, frame it in a way that actually promotes discussion, and isn't just a platform for you to act like your opinion is more important than anyone else's.

List threads where people post a picture of something without explaining what it is or what it's from.
This is the worst, and it's rampant. Anytime there's a thread about best or worst game/movie/show/character, a good percentage of the posts will just be a screencap with no text. There oughtta be a law against that.

Ending sentences with :)

Especially when said sentence is an inflammatory remark towards someone.

"Ur a cheeky git, shut ur mouth or i'll hook u in the gabber m8. :)"

A lot of times I see it used in a very passive aggressive manner. People think they can get away with direct insults on other people if they add a smiley at the end.

I do this, but only to ensure people realize I'm not being shitty. As in "imagine me grinning as I write this."

Then again, a lot of people are just conditioned to expect that the guy on the other end of the discussion is either a) out for blood or b) willing to nitpick to the DEATH so even IF they imagine the grinning, they imagine it in the most shit-eating way possible, instead of imagining it like "hey, fuck it, we're just goofing over some inconsequential bullshit here."

To me, ending sentences with "lol" is worse than ending them with the :) - mostly because people almost never actually laugh out loud when they type lol, and also because there's almost no way for me to read the sentence without hearing the word "lawl" in my head and it pretty much renders the whole thing as sounding dumb as hell.

Like, tagging "lol" at the end of your sentence like a period makes me read that post with Pete Puma's voice in my head.

Spoiler tagging jokes.

Don't get me wrong, it can be funny and I've done it a few times. It's just that that extra step of having to highlight a bit of text can be annoying.

Also, context free spoiler tagging (eg
Bruce Willis is dead at the beginning of the Sixth Sense!1!1
)

I can't resist clicking on that shit.

Sigs. Like:

PEACE

Fuck off you fucking piece of shit.

I always find it amusing how upset some people get over the word "peace." I'm not sure you see the irony.

Oh, and to add my pet peeve, it would be spoiler tags and people who ask for them. Sack up. Spoilers aren't the end of the world. PEACE.

Welp
Bwahahaha
Salty
People who make threads for stupid questions like, "So who just cancelled their next gen system pre order?"
People who desperately want to make OTs. Hardly anyone reads them, why care that much?
People who ask pointless questions just because they want to shift the discussion to their own interests.
Tumblr gifs (these should be illegal in developed nations)

Edit: to the guy above me, you know what you do pisses people off. Why be a cunt for the sake of it?

Let me add "sentimental tumblr comics" to that list.

Also I am guilty of welp, blame it on my southern upbringing.

It's :lol for NFL-GAF. Has to do with JaknCoke getting banned for saying :lol or some similar nonsense. They honor him with it or something. You know how that be.
Oh. Some one told me its janitor not cleaning and I was all like "Now I know not to trust anyone who tries to convince me it's anything ridiculous sounding" that makes sense though. Thanks buddy.
