The FATE issue will be self-correcting. The entire problem is that they have multiplicatively better returns the more players are on them, so once the population who needs 50 right away -gets- 50 the "tear through mobs between fates" style will become more rewarding.

There will also be a HUGE rewards drop as soon as the amount of DPS present gets below mobs insta-dying and BLMs can no longer stand at spawn hitting Blizzaga forever at no risk to themselves.

This will make some people mad, but it will be a gradual weaning (as off times and lower areas fade first) and one where the dev team can claim they changed nothing.

I haven't noticed any difference in rewards in fates based on size of players doing it.

This past weekend, I took a break from leveling DoW and DoM classes because I've become obsessed with leveling up all my DoH and DoL classes together. I had the same issue in FFXI where I leveled up most crafts up to 60 around the same time before focusing on Smithing after that.

For the DoH crafts in FFXIV, I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all the materials I need for marking off everything in the crafting logs. I prefer to not buy stuff from marketplace/NPC if I can get experience out of gathering the items or making them on another class. Over the next few days, I'm off to start mining hundreds of Iron Ores and Elm Logs to get through the 15-25 phase of the crafting classes.

I love how you get so much more experience out of trying to HQ when crafting, as opposed to just spamming basic touch.

This is only going to make levelling second/third/fourth/etc classes even more tedious. It'd be nice if they just added more rewards to doing dungeons for levelling instead :/

The problem isn't just endgame. More concerning IMO are Fates, particularly their effect on raising secondary combat classes in the absence of story missions or quests. Obviously everyone recognizes Fates are the most thought-less, skill-less, and easy-mode combat leveling mechanic ever devised for a game. Right now I'm sure most people think they're great, but it's like letting a dog eat til it gets sick. The speed and ease of leveling removes any sense of accomplishment or value, makes dungeons and low-mid-level gear meaningless, and allows players to reach cap with no idea how to play a class. Long term, they're boring as shit and basically a free hand out of lvl 50's--simple as that. This is a fundamental problem for a MMO, and one that can not be corrected for at this point without mass exodus and outrage as players are too acclimated to exploiting them. They missed the nerf window week 1.

Problem solved. You're welcome, Square-Enix.

I personally don't think so, at least not for the foreseeable future. There will likely always be a sufficient number of players to mop up Fates in the go-to zones--even just for secondary jobs. They scale well enough that even 10 or 15 players can demolish them as fast as they spawn and I never foresee the popular zones failing to have less than 20 people attempting runs. If it does reach that point, it sounds like the damage is done and the game is already dead.

Make a habit of simply buying low level HQ goods on the market and flip them to turn them in for craft leves. Found woodworking goods for tradeleves that were cheap as dirt HQ'd and turned them in for leves. Made a profit of about 400 per item turned in on top of the ridiculous bonus. Obviously doesn't work for higher levels, but till around 15 in most crafts you can probably get by this way without working at all.

I'm increasingly thinking its bad design to have pass/fail aoes, these are avoidable and predictable, but the way the fight is set up, one person slipping up or lagging for a second can ruin a ten minute fight for the entire party, and that's pretty unfriendly.

what annoys me is that there seems to be a lot of 1hitko attacks. It sucks especially if you have to deal with latency problems.

Leves are already just as good as FATEs in some brackets. Find a /beckon quest and you can go from pickup to turn-in in less than a minute by ignoring the mobs, and you usually get a treasure chest too.

There is no difference. I think he's talking about the speed to do them, but that doesn't really matter considering that they don't instantly spawn one after the other. A single player running FATEs on his/her own will still net vastly more exp than doing anything else, be it now or six months from now.

Seriously? We keep wiping repeatedly with a full group, even though we're dodging everything. Our SMN is complaining that his pet is perma-slowed and is useless.

Yeah, it's a DPS race. Can't really speak on the SMN issues, but we had one in an earlier AK run who did fine on all the fights so I'm not sure if there's something specific he should do.

You do get a bonus if it's someone's first time through and you complete it quickly.

And it stacks with the extra 50% XP you get from already having a class at level 50, so pugging those low-level dungeons can be a great source of XP. They are kind of long though.

This is the dumbest aspect of it - it's totally at odds with people doing them the first time, especially story dungeons with more cutscenes. Also agreed that the bonus should probably be more.

FATE rewards dont change but you do get more XP overall as long as your party is good at getting first claim on the mobs.

I dont remember the "complete it fast" timer being too strict. Doing normal runs, Im almost certain we got it every time.

Maybe I missed something, but what difference does gear level make?

I mean honestly, it doesnt seem to make sense to have gear display a required level to equip, but then another level ranking it compared to others (if thats what gear level is), especially since its obvious to just go for equip with better stats.

Frankly, gear is dramatically over-valued, just like it was in FF11 for a while. I was able to heal HM Ifrit and Garuda, AK, Wanderer's no problem in my gear. Yesterday, I came online and some people in the FC were really needing a healer for Hydra -- a fight I knew nothing about, and wasn't ready to do for my own sake by any means -- since their last one ragequit due to the number of wipes they'd had, so I joined to help out. We finished on the first try, no problems. Healing it was a cinch. Then a little later the topic of relic weapon came up and people were shocked to find that I had a level 35 weapon on and I was only in AF besides a darklight earring. My gear is definitely not good, but gear only gets you so far. Knowing how to play your class is the most important thing. Obviously gear, especially weapon, is a bit more important for a DPS class, but a player who knows how to get the maximum damage out of their skills in many situations will be able to make up for a gear deficiency in a lot of cases.

That said, I also think people get way too uppity if you die a couple of times. Especially if people don't know the fight(s). Last night I did AK with two new people, and I told them before the demon wall fight, straight up: we're most likely gonna die the first time, even after I did my best to explain what happens. It's a weird fight, and you kinda have to see it to really understand what's going on. Once they had a feel for what actually happens in the fight, we won with no problems.

Ahh, so you were our healer. It was funny that you were the first to fall off at the Demon Wall after explaining everything to us. :)

Okay what class should i play? What is not too common at higher levels? Am pretty good at mmo's and enjoy excelling at hard to play classes that aren't necessarily the most popular (bards/enchanters in EQ kinda thing).

Better stats and (if they can be melded) higher caps for Materia. Also better defense. Is basically a number representation of the quality of the item.

50 guys in 8 parties, each party tagging every mob = 40k (for the sake of math) FATE reward in one minute plus a few thousand each in kill exp = a couple million exp added to the "Economy" a minute

10 guys, mostly solo = 40k FATE reward in 5 minutes, plus far less mass tagging so probably a few hundred in kill exp = around 100k exp added to that "economy" per minute.

And FATE spawn rate is based on zone pop, which skews it even more.

Tanks and healers are always uncommon. The fact that the game requires one of each for every 2 DD's means you're always better off taking one of those roles.

While most of that is indeed doable in AF, it require utmost execution and zero mistakes to get by. IE Garuda. And unfortunately, come Titan Hard, gear is a must and by no means NOT overvalued. It's a very hard gear/skill check. You need to have at least 3,000 HP to even hope to survive the fight, meaning the HQ i70 crafted items or Darklight. And even with that, there's the mad chaos after 50% where your skills are truly put to the test with DPS and movement.

While I won't be elitist about anything below, Titan Hard demands good gear to reach the HP values. There's zero chance of survival during final phase if you don't meet that HP wall. And 3000 is a bare minimum, you're better off with 3300 at least for some breathing room.

how does this work? I think you needa walk me through this or find me a video lol.

I tend to keep away from these escort quests, but if they can be exploited like that...

All the talk on HM Titan being puggable reminds me of my experience yesterday.

I've been trying to complete the Hydra fight for my first relic, all using random parties. All day I was in 'optimal' parties with 'experienced' players (full darklight gear makes them self-proclaimed experienced), anyway we just kept on wiping. Then I find a new group that accidentally had 2 paladins (me being one of them) and a warrior, so 3 tanks. The 'experienced' players were complaining saying one of us needed to drop to make room for the 4th dps. A cheeky paladin just started the duty and before you know it we've almost beat it... but we wipe. The experienced players start saying how this proves their point, what a hopeless party we are and were quite negative despite us nearly beating it. I managed to convince them for one more attempt and then I'd drop and make room for their 'optimal' team. We nailed it.

I just wanted to rub those elitist faces in the victory.

In pick up groups you almost always need a couple attempts to just get the hang of working with those members, but if you stick around, most of the time you will succeed (there are occasions where some players clearly don't know their roles or how to play them, but those are learning/teaching opportunities and generally quite rare). Friendly, patient, teaching, willing to learn, and I guess capable of managing their job's abilities are the keys to success in this game, not having full darklight armour and 2 weeks of 24/7 experience (well maybe that's what's needed for some content, but not most).

Some ppl will check you gear before inviting you for some Titan parties.

Tanks will check ppl on AK and unless they have DL they'll leave

Same with Garuda.

Yeah, too late.

Now I feel like I need to either farm CM until I have DL or only run AK with FC until I'm better geared to just pug AK. I think the only time I've ever felt like gear was an issue in any fight was during the story Garuda fight where the tank was decked out in level 35 gear and ended up taking a lot of damage.

They gear check on Chimera runs too and will kick you if you don't have decent gear. Had a BLM kicked from the run last night based on his gear.

Only problem with Titan in PUGs is if you get hit with two PLD, you have to hope the DD are geared extremely well since you have to burn that much harder. It's a DPS race and it only needs 1 tank to be effective. You can do Titan in a PUG, but it's just a big pain since people will often quit quickly.

Make a simple macro, /beckon is fine for the purpose of this. Keep the NPC targeted, run a few steps and /beckon him. Mobs will aggro the NPC, but they don't do enough damage to kill him quickly, so you can just keep going and wind up at the end with no problem.

The funny thing is that Chimera is not in any way a DPS check, you just need to play it correctly. But people just want to brute force it or thinking that DL geared ppl will save them from lack of coordination and poor play.

The subject of discussion was people requiring full darklight just to do AK, though. I'm not saying that there are no actual gear checks in the game, but they are not as early as AK and people should quit acting like gear is what's making you successful through places like that.

Anyone in AF can do AK. Hell I did it in bikini in 2/3 battles. Only using SOME armor for Demon Wall. It's overvalued for AK as all hell.

Yep, I went into AF with only a DL belt / Ifrit weapon. Easy enough the first time through.

Made it to the end with a completely fresh group and made it to the last boss my first time through and the only issues we had were mainly based on positioning. I had one DL accessory and a lvl 45 weapon. DPS and tank didn't have Ifrit weapons and we did alright.

Been banned for a hacked account for 10 days or so, now. Put in a ticket, 4 days later it was closed, telling me to call in to phone support.

The line is busy pretty much from open to close, but I was finally able to get through to wait on hold...been holding for 30 minutes now. Does anyone have any idea how long the hold times are when their phone lines are maxed out like this?

I hear you can go for hours then only get a disconnect.
Gotta get those security tokens/apps going, man.

I called right as they opened and was in queue for a little over an hour. Once I got on the line, my issue was cleared up in like 2-3 mins. I just suggest calling right as they open and stay on the line. If possible, call from a landline or put a headset on since it'll eat through your cellphone minutes since it's not a toll-free call.
