Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

A friend of mine is looking into buying a Vita because he wants to play some visual novel game that came out recently (don't know the name). He normally really doesn't like Sony so I want to push him over the edge. I really don't know a thing about the japanese and especially Visual Novels, could you give me/him a short overview/recommendations of the best titles in this area and also of the best Vita Games with japanese release only.

I'm pretty informed about the western Vita market, so I can cover that, but Japanese-only releases and Visual "novely"-games I have no clue about. Thanks!

First-Post-on-new-site-recommendation: Give New Little Kings Story a try! Playing it right now from Plus and I really really like it! Also preorder Terraway, it's like 20Pounds/30Euro!

Well, I am no expert either. Only know of Virtue's Last Reward on Vita in the West which shouldn't be an insider recommendation for your friend. He could also play PSP visual novels like the Corpse Party series.
Most of the stuff is probably not localized, but without region lock he could still get some nice visual novels if he can read Japanese.

As I just finished The Walkind Dead, I also can recommend it on Vita.

Except it's a new game with old stuff returning, rather than a straight expansion. I think the DLC would be pretty large if they did that...

My impression from the article is that a LOT of the old stuff is returning.
A lot of the stuff seems like it could be patched in.

I think this is a list of Vita visual novels here:

Im having a ton of fun with Soul Sacrifice, the gameplay is very good although the story is eehhh. P4G is next on my list of vita games to buy and when i finish that, Ys is next. I fully paid off my Ys LE Gamestop preorder today when i found $100 XD. Also preordered Tearaway with the money.

So, it looks like the rumors might be true..

Also, there is a very neat feature on Destructoid where they give recommendations to new Vita owners on all the different games available, as well as on the value of PS Plus. I think it would be a nice addition to the OT.

Oh, wow. This COULD be excellent news. BIG "could" there though.

So we've now got a EBGames Aus listing (which was taken down) a Amazon(.fr?) listing and a newegg one. Good to see that it's looking more likely that it will happen, after Insomniacs comments on a Vita version I'm hopeful that this will be a good port.
so Vitabros... who ordered the 64GB card?
I'll probably wait until it gets a local release. I don't have $100+ to spare at the moment. :(

you know a game online community is dead when even gaffers can't a full room of four.

^ yeah I was spying like a ninja.

SS online is like a ghost time now, most rooms have only two people.

and SS online with people you don't see is just bleh, it's like playing with NPC only they are farming all the time and don't die, I used to mostly play ad-hoc with my coworkers and the experience of playing in the same room with your partners is just way better (sadly one got sick of the game and playing with only one dude-who sucks- is not as fun), but yeah I now kinda get why Japanese love ad-hoc play.

Vita need more games with ad-hoc co-op.

Finished Totori Plus last night (normal ending only though) and downloading Meruru now.

Kinda pisses me off how the Atelier games aren't listed properly on the PSN store. Totori is listed but opening it only displays the line "There are no content items" while Meruru isn't listed at all! Both only show up on search. As if the games needed the extra obscurity...geez.

FWIW, I decided to find randoms to help me finish out a couple of the more difficult pacts in one of the recent SS DLCs and I didn't really have a lot of trouble finding 4 people. I was even kicking people because they were being jerks and I had more people pop right on.

That's because you were trying to play the game, not make a post on GAF about it being dead. :p

I need to join in one these SS shenanigans some time. I also need to finish levelling my guy. :(

I was thinking about starting a new character and going full divine because I get slammed on the Avalon pacts solo, but that Grand magus sigil makes sac so attractive.

I'd love to see a Knack on Vita. Stylistically, it wouldn't be too hard to recreate on Vita, they'd just have to simplify that molecule effect/mechanic somewhat.

To be honest, the more I think about it, the less it would surprise me.

Thinking about it, it does make sense to launch VitaTV in Japan first. It's a smaller market where the conditions are right for it to be used as a test market. In Japan Vita doesn't suffer from hardlocks when trying to download a game. There's probably thousands of playable games due to their vast library of PSP, PSone, and PC-Engine games too.

Is the first logo over my dead body 2? If so i hope to see some gamplay! :)

I hope they actually bring over all those games on the list. Localization issues have been the bane of my gaming experience these couple of years (I am looking at you type-0 and pso2)

Can someone PLEASE play Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate and Shin Sangokumusou 7 with Moushouden and bring opinions back?

I'm confused at the 2. I thought it was Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate that was getting ported?

This is a good point.
I wish SCEA would fucking achieve parity already.
But I doubt that's ever going to happen at this point -- that Destructoid article someone linked earlier in the thread really pissed me off. I went and re-downloaded Crash 2 and Spyro 1 and tried to push them via PS3... but no dice, so that article is telling people they should go buy PSOne classics they can't play on their Vita.
These sites should really fact check before they post stuff. >_<

Tecmo Koei turned an unnumbered game into a numbered one for the western release, so Musou Orochi 2 is Warriors Orochi 3. Same goes for Dynasty Warriors, Shin Sangoku Musou 7 is Dynasty Warriors 8.

So it's sort of like when Square bought over Final Fantasy VI as Final Fantasy 3?
But in reverse, somehow, where some game that didn't have a number there got a number here?

Gotcha, I think.

youtube trailers for Gundam Breaker and J-Stars look pretty cool... too bad these will never come here.

Over my dead body 2 video!

the walking animations are really bad lol, but all ther rest is awesome! Too bad it's not on an oled model...

lmao @ the walking. No wonder that guy in the giant-sized sushi bowl pic looked like he had Rob Liefeld posture.

They can't possibly keep it that way... I feel silly now for spreading around some of the screens for the hype machine.

Gundam Breaker, Sen no Kiseki, Power Pros Baseball 2013, Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram, and Project 575 are never leaving Japan.

Early development I assume. The psp version had better run animation.

Want to bet?

Note: I'm not betting against you
