Here are My Thoughts on my new Wii U

I just got the Wii U on Friday, downloaded Wind Waker HD, and played Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, while also downloading a demo for Wonderful 101. I have to say I truly love having the Wii U as my own. I'm a poor college student with no money, but I did have a bet with my dad about college. Since I won, we'd save up money (him and I since I want to at least pay part of the dang console) and we bought it the day it came down in price.

Anyway, I love the TV control input the Wii U has, which is a shame my dang Dish Network box worked with the Wii U Pad, but ah well. I love Miiverse, it's so addicting to just read people's posts.

I haven't tried out Wii U Chat, but my friend did and he said it was decent. I want to try it out at some point.

The Gamepad is super comfortable and it makes playing games better, at least for me. The only thing I want is that longer battery from Japan.

Here are my negatives for it: the loading is still a slight pain for me. I updated it to the current update and it's still a bit too slow for my liking. Hopefully Nintendo will ACTUALLY give us that damn update.

The battery life is a pain. 'Nuff said.

Lastly, I just need more games! I'll wait until Christmas or Black Friday, whatever one makes things cheaper!

At least you didn't have it for launch. It took like a minute to load ZombiU off the internal (read, fastest non-external SSD option) just to get off the splash screen. Eugh.
Still enjoyed the game though, just had to make sure you actually wanted to play it haha.

I lurves me Wii U, can't wait for my limited edition WWHD to come in, with dat sexy Ganon figure. Games are starting to flow in, I'd say W101 and ZombiU deserve your attention when you're figuring out what you want.

EDIT: ALSO! Look into making this your CoD machine if you're into those. Setup your Wiiremote controls, play through singleplayer or what have you to get used to them, and then never look back. They take a while to adjust to, but god they are amazing after you've got it down.

Good to hear you're having fun. As to cheap games... isn't Target having a buy 2 get 1 free deal on Wii U games through today?

I just got one yesterday too.

Most noticeable thing for me is that the sticks being above the face buttons are fucking wrong and annoying.

I'm a big fan of my Wii U, but some of its aspects, specifically lack of OS features and regarding Nintendo's online policies, drive me crazy with frustration. I still really like the thing though.

Glad your enjoying it OP
Thank you. :)

I'll probably get CoD: Ghosts on this thing. I'm not into CoD, but it was fun as Hell when I played them on the Wii!

My nearest Targest is an hour away. :(

buy Zombi U
buy Pikmin 3
go on the eshop and buy Toki Tori 2+

No money, but when I do, I will!

If you think it's bad on the Gamepad you'll hate the pro controller. I tried playing Wonderful 101 with the pro controller and I just couldn't do it. On the gamepad they're at leas closer to the right stick, but on the Pro controller they're slightly more to the left and it feels really weird. It's fine for stuff like platformers but something like W101 where you're constantly using the right stick to draw shapes and pressing A to confirm the shapes it feels really weird.

Yup first annoyance at the demo station was this. And the UPad is simply uncomfortable. Feels like I'm using a TV tray as a controller

It's a great system and you bought at a very good time since there's a number of great games coming out for it. Definitely check out Zombi U, NSMBU, W101 and Rayman Legends when you have the chance.

Sounds like your feelings echo most of the people who have actually owned the console. I've really enjoyed my mine despite not being too big a fan of the last few Nintendo consoles; the ergonomics of the gamepad have mostly sidelined my PS3 for the last year. If you like that, definitely check out the pro controller. I held off for a long time, but it's mind blowing. And you've jumped in at the right time, the library is only going to get better from here.

Get ZombiU, it's probably the only game I've ever owned that was legitimately scary. I think it's only $20 now too.

Toki Tori 2 is a must as well. It's on sale for $9. The original Toki Tori should launch in the next couple weeks as well for $2.

Edit: My NNID is Ray00101. Feel free to add me, I have Monster Hunter.

Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like you're discovering what a lot of Wii U owners already know, the Gamepad makes games more fun!

If you want to round out your collection, Target has a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale today. You can go pick Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends, and Pikmin 3 on the cheap!

Glad you liked it. Wii U is an excellent system that needs more love - especially with the great lineup coming up.

I play the disc version and the loading is still very slow imo. Sometimes it's just not loading and keeps looping.

But I actually stopped playing after awhile, not a bad game, but I don't know, not really great either. The controls are quite frustrating too.

Welcome to the party OP. Feel free to send a friend request through Miiverse (friends list doesn't send requests... weird)

You should adjust pretty quickly to the stick location; it bothered me at first, but now it's second nature. I do find the L and R buttons on the Gamepad still a little uncomfortable to use though.

the friend list requests are meant for people (kids) that have requests through miiverse disabled and both parties have to send it with no notification

everyone else just uses miiverse, great idea just should have been explained by Nintendo more clearly

Another thing: TVii sucks.
I booted it up once, and had no idea what to do. I selected my favorite TV shows, and I assumed I could watch complete seasons without hiccups and changing between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon but the app didn't do that? I assume it's pretty much meant, exclusively, for people with cable boxes and stuff? Not sure, I haven't tried to use it since March or something.

For those suggesting going to Target... I can't. Even if I could, I have no money and my parents don't want to fork more money. So I'm out of luck. :(

I don't understand the app. I set it up properly and all I could do was use the gamepad as a TV remote.

I recommend Nintendo Land! Awesome game with great soundtrack. Best part for you is that it's quite cheap used.

My Wii U has been getting more and more love as we get more releases. I couldn't be happier about the console right now. Bunch of exclusives that somehow manage to fall within my genre preferences. Love the GamePad and the release schedule looks bright.

What do you guys think of the mic quality in the Gamepad? I was very much surprised it picked me up quite well and the feedback was decent. Have you guys used it much?

Glad you are enjoying it so!

I've been strongly considering getting a Wii U soon and waiting a year to get the PS4...posts like these are encouraging that idea.

Glad you enjoy it OP.

I know I've been probably been beaten to it, but:

Great single player:
-ZombiU
-Lego City
-New Super Luigi U
-Pikmin 3 (edited in....how could I forget!)

Great multiplayer:
-Rayman Legends
-NintendoLand

I think I've asked before but do games downloaded from the eShop load significantly faster than the same disc based version?

Add me too: Ninjadom

It's a great complimentary system.

When GTA comes out, you have Zelda (another open world game, much lighter affair). The Last Of Us can be paired with pikmin or similar...

I can't wait for the October update, though. I think it's goign to really elevate the system to where it needs to be. I think that's why they delayed it so far, to get it right. At least, I hope.

Pikmin
Tekken
Nintendo land
NSMU + NSLU
Wonderful 101
Lego city undercover
Zombi U
Sonic racing transformed
Legend of Zelda wind waker
Monster hunter
Rayman legends

(Are all must haves for retail. I hope someone can do a similar list for eshop)

Here's some tips!

- never use the YouTube app for YouTube. Take advantage of the wii u's browser (it's spectacular). You can surf while you tube.

- make sure to allow friend requests through miiverse (it's in your miiverse options). Also don't forget that miiverse can be accessed via any browser now, computer of smartphone.

- grab the pro controller, it's fantastic.

- buy earthbound
