Here are My Thoughts on my new Wii U

I haven't really been keeping up with Wii U despite still eventually wanting to pick one up. Has there been any progress or news from Nintendo in terms of the system-locked accounts/games, or is it still the general 'exploring our options' statement?

Basically that. Saying that they're aware that it's a problem but they have nothing to announce.

I think they said it was difficult combining both, but are still trying to.

I'm enjoying my Wii U much more for the single player experiences like Eartbound, Lego City, Wind Waker HD and previously ZombiU. It really needs more quality multiplayer games like Wii Party and Wii Sports though. Strange that the follow-up to the Wii would be so barren of great casual party games.

Well those are coming..and for now, there's NintendoLand (not so casual, but a great multiplayer game!)

I love seeing all the people in here getting wii u's. Its a great system. A sleeper hit for the wii u is game and wario. Its only $40, fun singleplayer, good multiplayer, and the miiverse drawing game is both addictive and hilarious.

If anyone wants to add me, my nnid is CGTNub.

is the need for speed u good or meh?

It is really good. And cheap. Buy it.

Hahaha, and I thought I was the only person who bought a WiiU this past weekend :P.

I'm playing Wind Waker for the first time. This is a delightful game so far.

Apparently you weren't the only one! And here I had been hearing so much that all the nintendo fans who would want The Wind Waker had already bought a Wii U and it wouldn't spur any new sales.
Shocking.

The next announcement I want to hear for the Wii U is that Platinum is working on Non-Specific Action Figure X Action Bastard: Non-Specific Smorgasbord of Violence! (or, somethin like that)

i'm considering the machine, atleast for its backward compatibility wit Wii games
i'm not a zelda fan, but i liked the LE of the WiiU, idk if i should take it or leave it till the time gets right for an important game to me and get further future discounts until then -and maybe new cool LE machines like project X ^^-

Glad you enjoy it OP.

I know I've been probably been beaten to it, but:

Great single player:
-ZombiU
-Lego City
-New Super Luigi U
-Pikmin 3 (edited in....how could I forget!)

Great multiplayer:
-Rayman Legends
-NintendoLand

I find Rayman to be great in Single player too! :O

add me as well guys: illuminatis
I just looked at your profile... WOW! I love your drawings! Followed you!

Oh, and really, I followed all of you guys... My NNID is Elfteiroh, if anyone want to friend me (I have some reservation making friend request to people I don't really know, but I still accept those I get, weird, I know)

I really like the console, and I have just too many games to play already. xD I also LOVE Miiverse. It's great reading about all of you liking the console too. :P

Please enjoy Wonderful 101. It's a well hidden gem that doesn't come around too often. And look forward to Bayonetta 2 next year!! :O

Glad you're enjoying your Wii U - it's a vastly underrated system with lots of potential, several great games coming, and quite a few good games to play right now.

Everyone's already recommended most of the should-play stuff, and I agree with them, but my personal recommendations -- if you like platformers -- are Mutant Mudds Deluxe and Bit.Trip Runner 2. If you can only get one for now, go with Mutant Mudds. INCREDIBLE classic 2D platformer, one of the best of this generation. Excellent soundtrack, too.

Add me if you'd like! My NNID is "MaverickHuntrAsh." :)

Really curious as to the % of use the different features get. Seems like every time I look at my friends list, a fair number of people are using it for the internet browser or Netflix.

Great system thanks to the off tv play i get way more gametime these days. Games i played the most are

Warrior Orochi 3 Hyper
Tekken
New Super Luigi U
Nintendoland

Still looking to buy Pikmin 3 and the w101 but money is kinda rough and would like to buy Harvest Moon and Phoenix wright for my 3ds first.

I wonder if Internet browsing and video streaming are not the most used features of any tablet.

W101 is the first game ever that I am playing on "easy"... I'm so bad at it, but the story is so good!

... Wait? Bravoman producer??... I LOVE these comics, and the "anime" adaptation is perfect, I watched them with my friends, and made them into Bravoman fans. xD Sorry, a bit of fanboyism... ^^;

I must say my most used APP is the browser, followed by Miiverse... THEN there is some games, like Disney Infinity, Ninja Gaiden 3, Rayman Legends, etc. xD

Get ZombiU, it's probably the only game I've ever owned that was legitimately scary. I think it's only $20 now too.

Toki Tori 2 is a must as well. It's on sale for $9. The original Toki Tori should launch in the next couple weeks as well for $2.

Edit: My NNID is Ray00101. Feel free to add me, I have Monster Hunter.

Wait.....What?
really wait waarzehfklsdf

This is a pretty common trend. Lots of wii u hating but when you actually own one you start to love what the console brings to the table.

Glad you are enjoying the console OP. Things are only getting better. Make sure you get Zombi U, The Wonderful101, Pikmin 3, Lego City, NFSW U, Splinter Cell. Lots of more games coming this holiday season like Wind Waker.

I just got the Wii U on Friday, downloaded Wind Waker HD, and played Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, while also downloading a demo for Wonderful 101. I have to say I truly love having the Wii U as my own. I'm a poor college student with no money, but I did have a bet with my dad about college. Since I won, we'd save up money (him and I since I want to at least pay part of the dang console) and we bought it the day it came down in price.

Anyway, I love the TV control input the Wii U has, which is a shame my dang Dish Network box worked with the Wii U Pad, but ah well. I love Miiverse, it's so addicting to just read people's posts.

I haven't tried out Wii U Chat, but my friend did and he said it was decent. I want to try it out at some point.

The Gamepad is super comfortable and it makes playing games better, at least for me. The only thing I want is that longer battery from Japan.

Here are my negatives for it: the loading is still a slight pain for me. I updated it to the current update and it's still a bit too slow for my liking. Hopefully Nintendo will ACTUALLY give us that damn update.

The battery life is a pain. 'Nuff said.

Lastly, I just need more games! I'll wait until Christmas or Black Friday, whatever one makes things cheaper!
You should get a part time job to have a little cash flow for your hobbies. Seriously, when I was in college I had 16 hour days, sometimes 20 hour days. Got my BS in 24 months. While I didn't have a part time job(lazy) I knew people that had the same insane school schedule as I and they worked as well. At a regular university you'll likely have 2-6 hour school days. You'd be surprised at how willing people will be to work around your schedule. It's something worth looking into, especially if it's close to your dorm/apartment and you don't have to drive to work.

the battery life and loading times are an absolute joke. an OS shouldn't be this slow.
to nintendo's credit they've improved it a lot, however it can become a chore to plow through sometimes when i'm trying to navigate between different things (checking download status', switching back to my game and posting on miiverse at the same time)

all that said, it's quite a good system. if nintendo's can continue their quality 1st party output as well as funding a 3rd party title here and there i could be pretty happy with the thing.

not my main console mind you, but still a satisfying purchase.

I don't get this. You are a poor college student who just got two massive games and an awesome demo. How exactly do you need more games? I didn't read through the rest of the thread, but I barely have time to play games in college at all, heck I barely even browse NeoGAF unless I'm trying to slack off or I just woke up. (Note, not frustrated at you, just frustrated at life)

I think this happens to every console. People who invested are most likely to defend and enjoy it, while people who don´t have it or won´t get will likely bash it to justify they don´t have it. Psychology is weird.

I love my Wii U. Game library has a bit of everything, with sports and FPS lacking the most.
Bring Fucking Donkey Kong and the rest of the games coming!!

Seeing people get locked out of their accounts, or even consoles, Im glad Nintendo is taking some time to approach this unified account system. They can hopefully come up with something a bit more consumer friendly vs draconian.

I think people with money and time issues are good candidates for indie games.
And it looks like the WiiU will get plenty of them.

Oh wow, you're familiar with Bravoman and my work on it? I'm so flattered - thanks for the compliments! Yeah, I work for ShiftyLook and UDON Entertainment, and Bravoman in particular has been a lot of fun to work on. And there are more cartoon episodes coming your way, though I'm not allowed to say when just yet! But yeah, we definitely appreciate the support, and check out some of our other comics too if you haven't, like Wonder Momo and Katamari... they're awesome too!

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread, but I had to say something! Let's see, something Wii U related... well, Wind Waker HD is more gorgeous than any game has a right to be. :O

It has already been said in the topic but I'll say it again : If you like characters action games (DMC/Bayo/NG style games), get The Wonderful 101. Such a great game.

If Bayonetta succeeds at one upping it... Oh boy.

I got one because the store had a good deal. Didn't have high expectations for it, but I'm primarily a handheld gamer. I kind of like that it offered something different; the first thing I look at is exclusives and I guess I'm not much of a mainstream western gamer so I liked what was there.

Nope, wrong. I've had my Wii U since launch. I don't enjoy it and I certainly have no desire to defend it or any other video game device.

I don't even have much of a desire to play it right now even though I have 5-6 games for it. I am enjoying my PS3 backlog too much.

Do yourself a favor and pick up Spin the Bottle: Bumpy's Party. It's only going to go up in price and its one of the best party games ever made.

I'd say 80% of my time with the console has been spent playing it as a handheld thanks to off-tv play. Obviously it's more limited than a true handheld, but I appreciate the ability to play from anywhere in my apartment.

Lucky you, can't play mine outside of the living room >_>.

Want to try giving some reasons?

Yup, Two Tribes said over Twitter that they had submitted Toki Tori HD to Nintendo and that it would be way cheaper than Toki Tori 2. Everyone assumed that meant $5, same as Steam, until they later responded with $1.99.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I now know what I'll purchase next!!
YEAH TOKI TORI HD!

lol I only have 1 tv so I am always using the gamepad.

I'm glad you are enjoying it. It is starting to get some quality games and I'm playing it more and more. I just wish Wind Waker didn't come out while gtav and ff14 are still new...

Is it just a straight up remake? If so, I wonder if the "upgrade fee" would apply for those of us who already have it?

My wife picked me up the Zelda bundle on Friday. Haven't had time to take it out of the box yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Lucky you, can't play mine outside of the living room >_>.

Yeah, this is a legitimate issue that they need to figure out. I keep reading about people with similar experiences and it's disappointing that there are those out there that can't really utilize this feature. It's extra annoying because unless you know someone with a Wii U there's no easy way to test this before purchasing the system. Do places rent consoles anymore? I remember Blockbuster did back in the day @_@.

Picked up my bundle on Friday after fighting with the gamestop guys. They were convinced the street date was Sunday.. but yeah its great so far. Off-TV play is incredible. I just wish there was a bit more range on it..
