Here are My Thoughts on my new Wii U

I think I've asked before but do games downloaded from the eShop load significantly faster than the same disc based version?

Add me too: Ninjadom
Added!

It's a great complimentary system.

When GTA comes out, you have Zelda (another open world game, much lighter affair). The Last Of Us can be paired with pikmin or similar...

I can't wait for the October update, though. I think it's goign to really elevate the system to where it needs to be. I think that's why they delayed it so far, to get it right. At least, I hope.

Luckily, my friend is giving me GTA V for free, so I can play these! :)

On average I'd say yes. There's some videos on YouTube about it although I wouldn't say it's significant.

Twitch seems to work in browser now
Yeah someone from twitch posted on here a few days ago saying Nintendo approached them about getting the site to work with the wii u browser.

Glad you enjoy it OP.

I know I've been probably been beaten to it, but:

Great single player:
-ZombiU
-Lego City
-New Super Luigi U

Great multiplayer:
-Rayman Legends
-NintendoLand
ZombiU actually has pretty great multiplayer as well. Shame it's only 1v1 and no online. Most of my family don't really 'get' first person games, but my girlfriend in particular picked up, and understood the role of the zombie master really quickly with the game pad.

I really did enjoy the ZombiU multiplayer, but it does feel like an add-on compared to the single IMO. I also feel like the person playing the human, if they have any FPS skills, has a major advantage. Maybe because I havn't played with the right people....

It seemed awesome until we realized that using Wiimote completely destroyed the game. She literally couldn't spawn zombies fast enough to counteract the headshot speed.

I've found that spawning zombies in choke points, while keeping at least two flag zombies on the opposite end of the map keeps the playing field pretty level.

The person with the game pad NEEDS to unlock the stat boosts in order to win though.

Can you please explain how it works?

Myself and Prestige don't really understand what it does?

Not sure about outside the U.S. but at least here:

Setting up TVii with your local TV, local cable provider, netflix, or other video on demand services lets you access a super guide for programming. It can change channels or load VOD through the interface.

For sports, it's fun if you watch sports by yourself. Many of the plays during a game get "tagged" and are displayed on a feed. If you are viewing the feed for a game, you'll see them appear on the gamepad. they have screenshots and you can doodle on them. you can also post text comments and converse with others or simply just emote happiness or sadness, etc... did I mention that they post screenshots from matches and you can doodle on them and post them?

You can pull up a TV guide on the gamepad (more useful than it sounds) and switch cable inputs to the channel you want. You can favorite shows, and it also lets you browse by themes or related shows. If you pick your favorites or select any show, it will automatically pull up a list of ways to watch it, (cable tv, netflix, amazon) and tell you when. It works best if you have a few services connected (I just have cable TV).

Even with the TV shows, the more popular shows get "tagged." So if you are watching their feed, they display screenshots with captions from the show, you can doodle or post text comments.

It's a useful service if you watch a lot of TV. I personally find it more useful for football (and there is much more interaction with users than for regular TV). The interface is clunky and slow, but the gamepad does pretty much everything Kinect 2 does for the TV during their XB1 demo, as far as I can tell.

As I said also in the Zelda WW HD Bundle thread, I really like seeing new owners' reactions to the Gamepad. It is a really great and comfortable controller.
Of course you need to get use to the stick placement if you are used to the other controllers (although switching between the X360 controller for PC and this isn't so difficult). And I guess it can be an issue holding it if you have small hands.
But it adds convenience and pleasure to my gaming.

That's not an issue with small hands, its an issue with weak hands. The buttons aren't sprawled out everywhere and the grips aren't huge like the Of Xbox's.

Yea, I got a launch one for Christmas with NSMBU and Sonic Racing Transformed, at first I didnt really like the gamepad... 5 hours later, I could never go back, except for the pro controller, that thing it great.

For those saying the GamePad is uncomfortable......

Your hands are just not used to how wide the analog sticks are. Over time, you WILL get used to it. I guarantee it. Afterwards, you won't want to go back.

are you talking about the black gamepad? is this why they phased out the white basic bundle?

Glad to see many people enjoying the u. Its got a badrep but I trully love it myself as well. It feels like the Gamecube to me.

i would thoroughly suggest getting the wonderful 101, pikmin 3 and toki tori 2+. You would be set for months.

Same here. Games make a system and the last 4 I got (Earthbound, Pikmin, TW101 and Rayman) have been amazing.

I know I sound like a broken record, but if your list is an indication of your taste you would absolutely love toki tori 2. Best game on Wii u no one played.

Funny you say this: I posted a help request on miiverse few minutes ago, I'm stuck! I love this game.

I just got one Friday as well. There are SO MANY games I want to play on it. Then theres X, DK, MK, SSB, SM3DW on the horizon, and a new Zelda and (its sounding like maybe?) metroid eventually. The software is strong and makes me glad I bought it.

On the other hand, the operating system is fucking slow garbage and both it and the gamepad just get in the way. It feels like a huge step backwards from the Wii's intuitive interface and controller. I really can't understand how the same people that designed the sleek and focused Gamecube and brilliant, market-altering Wii came up with the Wii U (and 3DS for that matter).

Don't forget to try WiiStreetU and Panorama view, it´s fun !

Also if you like to draw, buy Art Academy Sketchpad, or you can just go to Miiverse and enjoy the chefs d'oeuvres !

I just got the Wii U on Friday, downloaded Wind Waker HD, and played Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, while also downloading a demo for Wonderful 101. I have to say I truly love having the Wii U as my own. I'm a poor college student with no money, but I did have a bet with my dad about college. Since I won, we'd save up money (him and I since I want to at least pay part of the dang console) and we bought it the day it came down in price.

Congrats fellow GAFfer, it's great that, despite being in a harsh position you and you dad managed to save and get a Wii U. I hope better days can come for you and your family but it must feel good to have a Wii U after spending some time saving for one, I bet it helps you to enjoy the most, in my opinion.

As for myself, I still have to pick one, I'm missing some Nintendo love (never had the Wii, also) but that won't happen soon because I have other priorities but I can't wait to try it out myself. The Wii U seems to have the perfect line of games that, after a long and tiresome day you just want to sit back and relax and a nice violence-free game before going to bed.

I got a wii U last week too.

I feel the same about how slow it is navigating around the menu (and people tell me it was worse!). I've been playing a LOT of Pikmin 3, which is super cute and super stressful. My partner doesn't want to see the Pikmin die :(

I feel bad about joining late, because I want to play NSMBU and Luigi U... but I already have pikmin, and W101 to play! (among other things in other consoles)

You can add me if you want: "mrpablington"

This. I'm a pretty big TV addict, and if I happen to be watching live TV then the TVii app is quite awesome. I can get on there and troll shows I don't like and praise shows I do. It's kind of a weird thing, but it's geared around making TV watching more social. I know it's not for everyone, but it jives with my lifestyle pretty nicely.

My Friends List is full, so I'll probably just Follow you guys instead.

Let's hope they will upgrade that with the "summer" update. Now that the Wii U will (hopefully) start selling (relatively) well it should be the optimal time to do it I think.

Monk, you will love it when you ever get it. Once you do, I will add you on Miiverse!

I'd say they have had more than enough time tbh.
I agree.

I haven't really been keeping up with Wii U despite still eventually wanting to pick one up. Has there been any progress or news from Nintendo in terms of the system-locked accounts/games, or is it still the general 'exploring our options' statement?
