Laura Fryer - My thoughts on Game Pass

As a former XBox and Microsoft loyal Customer and Fanboy, it's really sad to see what XBox and Microsoft has become!!!

Luckily there is still Nintendo :)
It's horrible because now there's only PS left for me. No offense to Nintendo fans but I'm just not a fan of that ecosystem\IPs\games.

I hate gaming on PC so that just leaves me with PS. I really hope SteamOS or the Xboxapp really make PC gaming a console like experience. It was already pretty close the last time I tried but I still had issues that were driving me crazy. If they can do that then I'll at least have a viable option if PS tries to screw me over.

Eh, I like her perspective, but just because she's able to identify problems doesn't mean she's equiped to solve them. Look at what happened with Phil.
Phil can't even identify problems, there's really no good reason that Aaron Greenberg and Matt Booty have lasted in their roles (and even gotten promotions) for so long under him

@12:56 "They can fix this."

Just got up to the bit where she says about Gamepass - 'Microsoft abandoned what they had and started chasing what they don't understand'. Pretty spot on.

It is really easy to solve. Shutdown gamepass and cloud. Focus ALL resources to make a Variety of great games emulating the Golden age of Xbox(2004-2008). Pure Focus on games not this bullshit of features and services. They would lead this industry.
they are not in it for the games, they are a business and its been handed down across all divisions that they want to increase subscriptions to ensure income monthly from all products. XBOX division included so Gamepass is the driving force of this. Sustained Cloud based revenue is their goal.

If people don't want to pony up the extra dosh to keep them in the black, was it even a good idea to begin with?

Maybe they just got over eager with expenses, this doesn't magically make the model not the future.

There's a lot of xbox studios / partner studios that won't be able to stand on their own feet without Gamepass, they won't, they just won't. They don't have the raw talent to stand without this rental service.

Hope the people cheering on the destruction of the service understands how many xbox / associate blue hairs are going to be ejected from their jobs over this. Bad vibes.
All of a sudden you care for the studios / devs that might lose their jobs. Where were y'all to support them by buying their games instead of using a rental pass? Cry me a river.

Did you just fucking y'all'ed at me? Dude, not cool.

Without Gamepass, most of these people wouldn't make it in the free market where it's almost exclusively merit driven, I am indeed a saint for having indirectly supported all of them through thick and thin, yay. I mean, you could argue this is a sure shot way to rid the industry of huge chunk of woke pretty much permanently, I just find it a little brutal, but if that's your strategy, go for it, I suppose.

If you think about it, Gamepass is inherently Communist, maybe it's for the best that goes away.

Xbox is a prime example of what happens when you try to disrupt an industry and fail.
Everyone knew back in 2001 that microsoft would disrupt the industry and if they couldnt get their way, they would rather see everything burn than to just fail and leave. Any other company would have been gone for a long time. Microsofts benefit of infinite money is why they simply wont quit

Accurate.

They had the ability to stick the landing but for whatever reason, they chose to fly to a different airport.

The same could be said for PlayStation and their pursuit of GaaS success. They're extraordinarily lucky that Xbox shat the bed, because if Xbox had their shit together, we'd be having a radically different conversation right now.

100 percent gamepass is the future. In typical Xbox fashion they will be out of the game by the time and alternative comes along that does it "right" but fundamentally the majority of gaming will be done through sub services and us weirdos who buy "licenses" for games will go the way of the dodo, or be more or less extinct.
