Banned
Zumbla, you sound daft.
Who's going to do the wall of shame of all the posters in here who shat on MS when it turned out they were in the right.
That was awesome, isn't there a website that hosts stories of a bunch of good Xbox Live bans?
Does Microsoft get the games back that the OP stole from them? No?In light of recent evidence, clearly the OP deserved a banning.
Still doesn't change the fact that Microsoft (Or Valve, or Sony, etc) can ban an entire account and all of the properly purchased content on said account without any explanation or recourse.
This is so strange. He pirated software, i can understand that, as human weak to temptation, real life compromises, lack of money, etc. He knew the risks involved in doing so.I agree too, I was worried (even to the point of being physically sick, but that's also not helped due to stressing out about life in general at the moment)
I was supicious when OP mentioned his "legit" games, and avoided the questions about the illegitimate games
You keep replying? No shame i guess. XDI don't know... I feel sorry for that..
Not so much because of pirating. But he is fooling people and telling lies. And made a reallySo I expect OP will be permabanned for trying to pull our hair claiming he was innocent and was pirating games?
Shame on you OP.
in light of this thread can I make two suggestions?
1) Ban Marketplace Theft threads. Many years ago like many people here I took part in the Coca-Cola MS points deal and managed to redeem a large number of free points. Looking back on that I realise it was a pretty stupid and careless thing to do given that MS are acting pretty strongly in a number of cases. Looking at the Oman thread I can't see how anyone who used it can think of it as anything but Marketplace theft, it was clearly an error on MS' behalf.
I'm glad Sony is not this strict. I got Jak and GoW HD for free because of their mistake (tho Jak went to be free in PS+ anyway :lol).
Sony welcomes you.
Enjoy your PS4

Sucks.
Welcome home

PSN lets you do all of this and not get banned or anything.
Sorry OP
*Sighs*
What are PS4 suggestions going to do to help the, OP?
Playstation doesn't ban you.
Come to the Dark Side
Time to jump the ship.
Terrible form Microsoft. No reason given, no recourse for appeal.
This is why people shouldn't buy their products.
Next thing they will ban people for buying games! Wait... they did that with halo 4.
Bunch of thieves.
This is pretty harsh if it is just an Oman thing. Nintendo and Sony open their arms. You're safe now...
So MS bans people playing games they buy before release date, downloading and playing a map pack that they put up themselves. What else do they ban people for?
lol I tried to warn people that MS would ban people when those threads about creating foreign accounts to get free games started popping up. The banned a player for playing a LEGIT, legal copy of Halo 4 early for crying out loud, and you thought you'd skate by free on this? Not saying it's right either, it's shitty customer service, but They don't give a fuck.
Welcome to Cerny Computer Entertainment. Cerny PlayStation 4 welcomes you with open arms.
Bad timing M$
Love how people are defending this. This is the equivalent of having all your assets seized for being convicted of Jaywalking.
Fuck em. Imo this couldn't have happened at a better time.
I just want to reiterate that it's bullshit customer service won't even tell you what you did wrong.
Get banned because Microsoft fucked up and you lose ALL of your 50+ games, DLC, etc? i see people defending this lol. Holy shit wtf NeoGaf.
Wait, so your console is banned? You can't play your offline games anymore?
Thats fucked up. Digital future indeed.
Not saying i believe the OP's story completely, but microsoft bans people for playing a game before release date. Who knows what other tiny things they ban people for.
Glad Sony don't do this, but that is some Bullshit!
I've always had both a US and NZ login for the PS3, with my US account usually being for Demos and Trailers and the occasional game that releases sooner and cheaper, and I just buy US PSN cards online.
Way to create more paranoia about your digital system MS, when you could just remotely disable the offending games. I'm happy that I'm going PS next gen, and I'm legitimately concerned about my XBLA collection which contains probably 100ish titles. I replaced the laser on my XBOX 360 disc drive, am I going to somehow be fucked out of 500-1000 dollars worth of purchases at some point in the future? I dunno.
But I'm going mostly STEAM next gen, and PS4 for some cool console exclusives. I just can't do it anymore with worrying about BC and getting banned for fixing your own equipment, or whatever.
How can MS take back games a consumer paid for?
Whats next? They going to break into my house and remove my physical copy of Halo 3?
Sell all of it. Get a PS4

Does Microsoft get the games back that the OP stole from them? No?
I thought this thread was very clever Sony marketing but boy was I wrong.
Nope.
So then the company should have a right to take away what you purchased?
God damn right he does.
Again, two wrongs don't make a right. If he legitimately purchases something and no longer has access to it due to other activity, that doesn't change the fact that he legitimately purchased that content and no longer has access to it.
I love how the console ban message is 'we won't tell you why you're banned and there is no recourse.'
The very definition of arbitrary. Just imagine, we almost had a whole console subject to this.
Obviously the entire argument was based on the fact that he legitimately purchased games and that he was banned for something more nebulous than blatant piracy.
And you know what- Even if he did pirate 90 games but purchased 10, does he not have a right to the 10 games he purchased?
If I have a modded console where I download 90 games, I still own the 10 physical copies I purchased. The argument is more about ownership in the 'digital age' than anything else.
I thought this thread was very clever Sony marketing but boy was I wrong.
Can someone sum this up? Basically is this what happened:
-OP claims he was banned for dumb reasons
-Detective-GAF finds shady practices by OP
-OP actually pirated 360 games, is no longer fellow gaffer
-Nothing to do with Oman exploit

I object to being on the wall of shame since I still think MS (or whomever) should have to give a more specific reason for a ban if requested, beyond the generalized charges in the email.

Piracy.thank you for this.
What shady practices?
Nope.

What part of "he can still play them offline" isn't registering?

Is this the case?
Does it have anything to do with Oman exploit or not?

So make a thread about that. Defending this guy is bizarre. You know what an acceptable ratio of piracy to purchases is here on GAF?
Zero.
The part where he cant download games he paid money for I guess.
What part of 'I should still have access to what I purchased' isn't registering?
