Rockstar needs to allow an option to buy some kind of Nikon/Canon camera or something to take HQ shots without that weird cell phone camera filter over them.

Maybe if you finish Beverleys quests or just knock him out you can take his camera.

Nah, he's referring to things like the vignetting and releveling of the images. If they wanted to save bandwidth, they'd just continue to put more compression or shrink the resolution.

Eh, they're generally under 70kb each as is, which is still reasonable for the huge amount of traffic this feature generates. I think they struck a fair balance between image quality and file size with the resolution and compression they chose. Those are the bandwidth-saving decisions we're referring to.

The scanlines and vignetting, however, are stylistic decisions (although many here would argue they're poor ones) that surely arose as a direct result of the bandwidth-saving measures this system requires. They're "helper" filters. Makeup. They help hide artifacting without increasing file size (in many cases, I'm sure they help decrease the color range) while intending to lend the photos that faux "mobile quality" feel. The heart of the matter is bandwidth, though. And like I said... it's an interesting structure to work within. I enjoy the limitations. Some don't. *shrug*

Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. It's a real shame they don't let you save them to your hard drive instead of deleting the picture if you can't connect.

yeah and deleting pictures takes forever because of the connection problems.

Aye. It's not ideal for an action shot if you get a black "scanning connectivity" screen when you try to pull out your phone. And it's a real shame if my awesome Michael gas-tank explosion picture is immediately deleted because the Rockstar servers were busy at time I attempted my upload.
