If you just copypasta'd the text from the rf.net website, that dropbox link won't work because it's been shortened. Just FYI :)

A greeting.
I didn't mention it before, but should have... that's a great video.

Ooh, I love nerdy stuff that I don't quite understand!

Anyone else remember the rF2 GT3 mod that Mclaren777 (RIP) posted about some time ago?

FIA-GT3-rfactor-2-1-1024x819.jpg

Reading through the rF2 forum thread for mods, it appears this mod has sadly been put on hiatus for the forseeable future:

"hi all

At this time the gt3 mod is in sleeping mode.

Indeed, for the moment, all the members of the apex team are not convinced at all by rfactor 2. Moreover, other GT3 mods (copies of official game) have been released for rf1 since the release of our mod (unfortunately we planned to work on an evolution for rf1) and no doubt that it will be the case for rf2

We still check all the release of rf2 because we hope that the current gap will be solved by isi. IMHO, isi is not focused enough on modding issues, especially for the physics design (my role in apex team) and more precisely for the tire design. I hoped before rf2 release that isi will gave real design tools for the physic, on tire and also on suspension. But i think now that is over.

Actually, months ago, I had the occasion to explain my position about tire design issues.

I am happy that the rf1 mod pleased you, and beside the difficulty to provide "realistic physix", we always had in mind to maintain balance of performance between all these cars, each with its particular specs.

Best regards,

Gilles (french guy so excuse for the english)

(Physix for Apex GT3 Mod)"

This sucks as many people were really looking forward to this mod.

"Even though we love the 1960s cars in particular, and have licensed a number of vehicles including Dan Gurney’s Eagle-Climax/Weslake Mk I (T1G) and Eagle Mk IV (Indy car) from that decade for future production, we’ll also be including the Mercedes-Benz W196 (including the streamline body) and the 300 SLR sports car from the 1950s, more modern F1 cars like the 1984 Ayrton Senna Toleman TG184, and even the 2003 Bentley Speed 8. rFactor 2 will be a fantastic platform for fans of both modern and historic racing for many years"

Eagle Weslake Mk I? Yeah, baby. Those are all great additions. Man, can't wait.

Thanks for your comments of my videos, guys. ;)

Other reality check video, today is a comparison of the Sepang International Circuit between a real onboard and rFactor 2 Beta. The circuit is very accomplished and as you can see, It's nearly identical.

One of our testers made this video of this WIP car as it nears release. One of the first cars we started to build for rF2, and after some refinement trying to bring it up to current spec, almost ready for release. Note that the video does not represent final quality which will be released. Also, no idea what the testers PC specs are.

From Tim Wheatley:

Hi everyone,

We have released rFactor 2 Build 298.

There's been some comments about improved framerates from testers, hopefully that experience carries over to you!

We've also started to implement a new constraint system (which is used in the upcoming historic Howston cars), that allows many new physics features, such as chassis flex. Most importantly, this system allows suspension geometry and wheel rates to be more accurate than the old model was able to simulate. This system adds complexity and accuracy, but has already been optimized, with no notable additional CPU usage. Of course older cars will be updated in the future, and new cars will use the new system going forward. Fortunately, it's quite easy to convert... Documentation will follow.

Release notes:
=====================================================
Update 17 (Build 298) Changelog (September 4, 2013):
=====================================================

FEATURES:
————————
Added “FuelLevelDigit*” to cockpitinfo.ini.
Changed when the low fuel warning comes on.
Work-in-progress on restoring vehicle state upon race rejoins (server optional).
Added new constraint system that supports chassis flex and more. Not 100% ready for primetime yet.
Removed “hand held” functionality from cameras when cycling through cameras in spectator mode.

GRAPHICS:
————————
Made some improvements to reflection mapping.

MODDING / PUBLIC DEV
————————
Improved default tracking cam values.
Implemented a “clear all cheat values” for a specific path because the old way required selecting all waypoints to be cleared first.
Added option to only show selected camera’s activation zones.

BUG FIXES / OPTIMIZATIONS:
————————
Fixed bug where uninstalled components were polluting inventory during loading.
Fixed memory leak.
Fixed some ttool problems when writing out TGM files.
Fixed random message box spam during recon lap.
Removed FlushPreviousFrame option from plr file to eliminate confusion, this param was moved to config.ini a year ago.
Added fail-safe to make sure pit exit eventually turns green in race.
Prevent pit exit from getting stuck at red during an early safety car.
Fixed client confusion when restarting weekend after another client has left a race.
Fixed a bug with incorrect use of bloom in showroom.
Fixed a problem with track bar geometry introduced a while back (doesn’t affect any current ISI content).

AI:
————————
Probable fix for multiplayer AI cars parking in wrong pit spots and blocking garages.
Fixed AI chatting in response to contact (apology or anger depending on perceived fault).

MULTIPLAYER:
————————
Now uses a single port for simulation data. +port is the command line option. Simulation port in multiplayer.ini.
Can now run server and client on the same machine.

This includes a new demo version, and new general installers (lite, content).

Auto update should replace the temporary launcher (if you used it). Make sure it has.

NOTE: Any mod which has a description field over 3000 chars may cause rF2 to fail to launch. The fix right now is to remove them (uninstall and remove from packages). This will be fixed in a future build, in the meantime we ask modders to limit that box to 3000 until we're doing it for you.

New constraint system, but no cars that actually use it yet? OK. Bring on those Howston cars pronto. Sounds like a nice update though. Framerate help is always welcome.

Another build! Build 300 is released:

From Tim Wheatley...

Hi everyone,

Let's try this again: We have released rFactor 2 Build 300 (yesterday's 298 had issues with some third party mods).

Release notes (298 and 300):
=====================================================
Update 18 (Build 300) Changelog (September 6, 2013):
=====================================================

BUG FIXES / OPTIMIZATIONS:
————————
Fixed startup crash caused by mods with exceptionally long descriptions.
Fixed TTool draw error, etc.
Fixed static reflections.

=====================================================

=====================================================

This includes a new demo version, and new general installers (lite, content).

Auto update should be live, and I would recommend you use it, as the download servers will be struggling until we get some mirrors up.

To manual update, download lite, and install it over your existing installation as usual.

First video of the series "First Person Driving View" in which I'll record the video from my viewing position in front of the monitor and with the Logitech G27 steering wheel, this time the video is of rFactor 2 and its two laps at Mills Metropark with the Chevrolet Corvette.

I knew you'd have it covered :) Thanks!

As for the videos, dat understeer. Hopefully it can be dialed out. Cornering speeds are lower than I would have expected because of it.

The paid for T5 mod by United Racing Design just got a nice update:

A demo of the Aura T5 can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ok4ijvpdizx4fr8/AuraT5_Demo12-13.rfcmp

The car is in BETA status and as I've said before it doesnt include high detailed cockpit. It uses Bayro T5 engine sounds for now and only engine sounds are done sofar, others are placeholders only. The physics is not finished and it shows the way im trying to go, to offer fun and to simulate some racing experience.

The file contains 2 component files which you install like cars/tracks and any other components like opening Manage Mods uncheck "show mods only" in options and install AuraT5 and BayroT5_2012 components.

The 300 build has seen a huge improvement in frame rates for me: I completed a 20 car race at Silverstone - a known resource hog - in full storm conditions with every graphical setting at their maximum including wind and crowd movement and road reflection, HDR on etc and 4xMSAA and 2XSGSSAA through Nvidia Inspector (I know they should both be at the same level) and maintained a 60fps average.

Hopefully ISI continue to optimise their code as when all the graphical elements come together, rF2 can look pretty damn good.
