Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Yes, one of top worst things about the game. and they didn't remove the backtracking from Rebirth (Vita version), sure you can use mirrors to warp to shrines but still you do a lot (many tons and tons) of unnecessary long and boring backtracking fighting billions of boring generic enemies in many recycled locations.

The art style is so nice to look at that it never bothered me all that much. If there weren't warp locations it would be another story.

I'm loving my new Vita. 160$ for the Vita, an 8GB card, Uncharted, and Lumines. Absolutely perfect-looking condition. Flawless. And I fucking *love* the interface. It's so clean and responsive.

I haven't had much time to play games yet. But I got PS+ and made sure to download everything I could see that was free. So, two questions.

1. Of Uncharted, Lumines and the (current) free PS+ games, what should I play first?

2. Are there any other free things to download that might not be jumping out at me? (Or are all of the free PS+ games collected on that one page?)

Going by Wikipedia on what US has for free right now, so I hope it's correct. Gravity Rush and Wipeout are both fantastic, as is Rayman Origins. Treasure Park is a freebie but it's not a play all the time kind of thing. I like it though.

Play them both -- Lumines doesn't really have a story, it's a pick up and play when you feel like it. Think Tetris. So Uncharted should be the first thing you focus on.

I have no idea what region you're in (NA?) and what's currently on the IGC for PS+ that you have access too.

Gravity Rush should probably trump Uncharted for what you should play though. :)

Generally, I'd agree - but - Uncharted was
a large margin more enjoyable, than Gravity Rush, to me.

I'll disagree with that. Gravity Rush is fantastic, though some of the stuff takes a bit of time to get used to... then again, the same is mostly true regarding Uncharted, since using the Vita sticks is a jarring difference at first from the console analogs.

That's been known for awhile now. I didn't back it until they announced Vita. And I've been backing it for at least a week, probably longer.
But there's no shame in pimping it some more.
So yes, peoples, support this project!

IGC will be better tomorrow, when something leaves and Origins comes in. Then TruthJunky should immediately play that.
Otherwise, the IGC, as of today, is:
Darkstalkers PSP (worth adding to your library, but more like a Lumines play in spurts/when you feel like it than a beginning to end run like Uncharted or GR)
GTA:LCS PSP (Second analog doesn't really add much... unless you want GTA on the go, there's no rush here)
Machinarium (Can't say either way... haven't tried it and don't really have an interest in it)
Uncharted:GA (3rd best Uncharted game, for me. A good run, fun to play, took awhile to get used to Vita analogs for aiming)
Gravity Rush (Best in this list, no doubt from me, others will disagree. Try it, if you like the first couple chapters, consider buying the DLC before you play any more. It's worthwhile and worth the $12 if you dig the game)
WipEout 2048 (Another pick up and play title for me, still hangs out on my card... it's fantastic -- and if you own WipEout HD/Fury, you get free DLC)

Hey guys! Just wanted to inform you that I have three Lone Survivor: Director's Cut codes to give away on my Twitter tomorrow afternoon. I will be giving away one code every half hour starting at 3pm EST.

Here's the link to my Twitter page.

EDIT:
Yes, they're NA PSN codes. Sorry EU users =/

It just received the funding about an hour ago.

Well, the time limit to back it isn't up yet. It ends october 4th.
But they must've announced they would be bringing it to Playstation platforms (including Vita) on 09/09, since that's when I ponied up $15 to back it and figured it would make the 400k goal before time was up. I haven't paid much attention to it after that, only that I get backer emails in my inbox relatively regularly.

Yep!

I'll post up the code with certain letter missing. A hint pertaining to the letter will be given, so the first one who figures it out and redeems it gets the game.

hrmmm... good to know -- if I'm at my desk and available, I'll have to have a browser open to the SEN store for code redemption. ;)

Thanks!

Gravity Rush (Best in this list, no doubt from me, others will disagree. Try it, if you like the first couple chapters, consider buying the DLC before you play any more. It's worthwhile and worth the $12 if you dig the game)

I found I was really unsure about Gravity Rush for the first few chapters. I think it took me until Chapter 4 and a lot of just soaring around Auldnoir or so before I decided that I was slowly falling in love with it. I guess this was partly because its just not really like many other games. I'm on Chapter 12 now, and am doing various side-things like tracking down manholes and the interdimensional couple, and beating the rare nevi in the rift worlds, as well as doing the first two DLC packs. I still have problems with the camera at times, but that is mainly because I have a habit of holding the vita at weird angles and forgetting that it affects it.

Everyone should give GR a chance, probably about 3-5 chapters I think before you decide whether it just isn't for you.

Oh god, I saw that "Switching from Vita to 3DS" thread and I just want to scream at everyone who posted. Don't go in that thread or you will probably die from spontaneous combustion.

Aww. Well GL to the NA Vitabros!

Saw a "vita going to 3ds" thread. Yup. Not stepping in that minefield lol.

It's pretty bad. I actually feel the exact opposite to him though. I picked up a 3DS for Animal Crossing and aside from that all the other games I've played on the system have been disappointing. Now I'm stuck with a 3DS I hardly play and a bunch of digital games that I can't unload. Oh well, lesson learned I guess.

This thread for everything related to Vita, so you are in the right place.

No, it's just for the loading time (and it's a very tiny difference), framerate and pop-in are the same between card and digital.

Thanks, Totobeni. I'll probably sell the Card version.

The only game I can comment on is Little Big Planet Vita, and the create mode can be brutal with the digital version... capturing objects and loading your pop it bag takes way longer, depending on the complexity of your objects & logic boards, and the amount of things in your pop it. Most people might never encounter the problems just messing around in create a little, or playing the game, but if you know what you're doing in create mode and are being ambitious the physical card is the only option. I figure that's a unique circumstance, but the fact I can see it magnified to such a great degree in LBPV, means there definitely is a performance benefit for physical cards, however small.

I don't think there's any discernible difference with other things, like Totobeni said. I could see potential for something like the Borderlands 2 port having noticeable benefits in the future, because of how it spends a few seconds more loading in textures after you load into a new area... but who knows?

Insteresting as well.. I guess I can play both for a little big before deciding if I should sell the Card version.

You peaked my interest. I'll check that out now.

I'm not sure why anyone would switch.
I just don't understand it.

Beyond that, if I go in that thread, I'll be getting a ban, I'm sure of it.

I picked up a stack of 12 3DS games recently thinking "Oh maybe these will be interesting". Played most of them and just do not give a shit about ANY of them. Kid Icarus controls horribly, RE Revelations feels sloppy even with the CPP, Mario Kart 7 was disappointing, Super Mario 3D Land went from "alright" to "wank" at the halfway point, NSMB2 is more of the same again, Mario & Luigi Dream Team is the worst game in the series I've played (and the only one I haven't played is Partners in Time), Mario Tennis just remains brutally uninteresting, Fire Emblem I just cannot get into to save my life, Bit Trip Saga doesn't have left handed controls, Animal Crossing is basically a cow clicker in the form of a $70 package...my god.

Meanwhile there's always something interesting on the Vita every week. At least, if it's not NEW, it's at least INTERESTING.

just realized that SEGA now has the publishing rights for Monster Kingdom. maybe they'll throw it on the store (someone need to tell them via twitter I guess).

what's the quickest way to switch regions on the vita? I have two different accounts.

There's only the one way and it's not quick.
If you have two different cards with two different regions, you pop one out, format, pop on in and go, I think.

Otherwise, you back up your card, format, enter the new account, and go from there.

Don't quote me on that though.

Love those weak ass discounts. :lol
10% on Lone Survivor. Wooo. Better than nothing I guess.
Limbo was about $6 back a few weeks ago... why would anyone pay $12 for it now?

A local Walmart still has stock of the PS+ Vita bundle. I have been hemming and hawing over whether I should pick one up. I like the idea of playing some of the recent indie games released for it, but I can't justify it as I already have a PC and a PS3, so...

What are you folks playing these days? Also, can someone point me to an exclusives list. That may lead me to resolution.

That is an awesome bundle. Buy it now!

all the new Vita owners really affirm the idea that once you try the Vita, you'll really like it.
dang, just hope more people try out the Vita

------

sigh. I really don't appreciate the vultures coming in to jump on the Vita whenever they get a chance. It's a fantastic piece of breakfast and other than the (expensive) memory card prices, Sony has been pretty good with it direction wise ain't.

I do have a 3DS XL... and while some of the games are pretty good (well they do have an awesome library) - the hardware gets in the way. The DPad and Circle Pad is horrible... even with the Circle Pad Pro... it's still horrible. The screen is :/ and I take a long time trying to find a good angle for the 3D effect to work

-----

oh well. can't wait!

Hey guys, I don't want to be that guy but remember when the mods closed this thread because of all the metatalk and thread whining? The last few pages were full of it and we can't change anything in the end anyway.

Last thing we want to happen is having our monthly thread shut down again.

When did that happen? I only remember the the megathread being closed in favour of monthly psn threads.

Also, this is not thread whining. Nobody is suggesting closing the other thread.

I meant the megathread, sorry.

A while back, we closed the Vita thread and allowed this PSN game and service thread to be created. However, it has become what is essentially the same thread with a different name, covering all aspects of the Vita from hardware problems to sales and and more.

It's also become an insular clubhouse where members who feel that they cannot comfortably discuss the Vita in the rest of the forum come to chat. Sometimes this type of chat goes entirely too far, to the point of people whining about other posters and threads in the safety of an echochamber, which is not the type of thing we want here on GAF. It's understandable to be frustrated with the trends of discussion surrounding the Vita as they are, and we will be trying to do a better job of keeping blatant trolling and non-discussion to a minimum as we move forward, but the aforementioned behavior is contrary to the type of environment we want GAF to be.

As a result, here's what we will be doing from now on:

1) This Vita PSN & Game Service thread may continue, but not in its current form. We want it to be switched over to a monthly format, and for each month's thread to have an updated OP with all of the new games and service information so that discussion in the thread is easier for newcomers to participate in. This also serves the purpose of keeping Vita news at the forefront rather than buried in a lengthy thread.

2) The meta discussion about other members, threads and the forum itself are not welcome. From here on out, that type of discussion will be treated just as it is in the rest of the forum. If you have a problem with a particular thread or member, by all means bring it to a moderator's attention and if it crosses the line, it will be dealt with, but do not derail threads - including this one - with that sort of discussion any further.

Let's stay positive in here. :D

I am damn excited for Lone Survivor!

As for the before-mentioned thread of terribleness.......

The megathread is closed because it is a megathread, not because of thread whining. Megathreads are discouraged because they are often not conducive for discussion, especially for newcomers, which is reasonable.

Edit: looks like I am mistaken.

Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut (PS3 & PS Vita, Cross-Buy)
PS Plus Price: $11.69, Regular Price: $12.99

If you guys havent played Lone Survivor, I really suggest it, its the best silent hill style game in the past few years, which is kind of depressing when you think about it.

Also, on an unrelated note, I was playing UMVC3 today, trying some new lineups, but keeping my main man Viewtiful Joe on point. Viewtiful Joe is probably my favorite franchise other than street fighter, and I am overwhelmed with profound sadness that there has not been a new game or a HD remake of the Viewtiful series :(

Play Uncharted first. Lumines has no story, but it's great as a filler. Pick it up anytime, anywhere, whenever you have short breaks.

I own both 3DS XL and Vita. I still prefer the Vita. Hardware wise, the quality is so much better than the 3DS.

When will do you think the US store will have discount spree again?

Eh, black Friday? I dunno.

I like psn sales. Do it Sony. My wallet is open whenever you are ready. The Japanese dev sales a while back is pretty good.

A psp focused sales will be welcome. I would like to pick up Ys for cheap

im hoping for some Halloween sale, then a black Friday sale, then a holiday/winter sale.

those will be the next big sales if thats what youre referring to. whether there's one or three sales i dunno. but thatll be the dates most likely.

maaaaaybe a PS4 kick off sale??

I'm hoping for Trail in The Sky to be put on sale. I'm on the fence buying for a last few weeks but maybe wait a while for a discount is much better since my backlog is big enough anyway.

I really wish I had some way to send you my digital copy. I really don't care for the game, but it seems I am in the minority, so I wish I could just give it a good home. :(

Just got my Vita last night and am playing me some Dragon's Crown. :3

I think I'm really going to like the system but I'm butting heads with the nw-9735-4 connection area. I'm trying to tether with my Galaxy Nexus and internet connection tests performed on the Vita are coming back positive BUT I time out when trying to connect to the PSN store.

Frustrating. :/
