Why do black people call me the n word?

My college campus is surrounded by a ghetto and every time I walk into the burger king or taco bell around the area, I will hear somebody call me that word. Now, maybe I haven't looked myself in the mirror lately but I am not a black guy. So, why do they insist on calling my that word? I am more of a honkie or a cracker as they call it. Please help GAF.

I basically was walking to get a drink and somebody yells at me this (Hey N****, can you give me a smoke over here?) And I ran to my room because I hear all sort of events around my campus. I was being dumb for going late at night where most of the crimes here happen like muggings and I was lucky for that not to happen to me.

but believes in Chael
It can mean a sign of respect or disrespect. In this situation I'm going with disrespect.

edit: I'm wrong if it is just about a smoke.

You should not be questioning it, just embrace it and be quiet homie.

This is hilariously adorable.

They're just using it as casual friendly slang.

There doesn't sound like there's any hostility in that example. More of an acknowledgement

It all comes down to inflection. Pretending they are using the word "broheim" and just pay attention to how they call you a broheim.

Is what they are saying closer to "What's up, broheim" or "Fuck you, broheim"?

This is an important detail.

At a Trader Joe's once some middle aged white man called me black people, but then again at work some guy thought I was Irish.

He's actually the protagonist of a "fish out of water" 80s college comedy movie. And he doesn't even know it.

He probably has tape on his glasses, wears a pocket protector, and his name is Dexter.

i've noticed young people have seemed to lighten up on the use of that word. When I was in High School, if someone used the N-word who wasn't black, you ran for cover. Nowadays I hear white/black/hispanic/asian kids all call each other that like it's no big deal. I can't decide if that's a bad thing or a good thing.

I feel as if the hispanic kids used it more than the black kids in my high school.

I used to say "nigga" ALL the time but that was because of the crowd I was with in Kentucky (of all places lol). Ft. Knox as my dad was in the army at the time. My immediate friends were pretty much all black and it just rubbed off. When I moved away, I started using it less and less...now I hardly ever say it
