I agree with you. It's just like the confederate/rebel flag, in a way. A symbol of hate that is now bandied around by the people that that were the victims of the symbol. Only, the confederate flag serves no purpose other than as a symbol of hatred and inhumanity towards others. Any other opinion is one bred in ignorance. There are those that claim it to be a rebel flag but the only rebellion it represents is the rebellion against human decency. Some claim that it is a patriotic symbol against government overreach but the only political statement it represents is inherently unpatriotic. Some claim that it represents the desire for states to maintain their right to govern themselves, and not slavery, but states could and can still do that and the only right that was contested was the right to sell and own other humans. It's a symbol that represents evil in its purest form.
Actually, on second thought... it has little to do with the N word other than being something that formerly repressed a people. The key difference is that the attempted re-appropriation of the confederate flag is being carried out by the ignorant people or racists and the re-appropriation of the N word is being carried out by the people who were oppressed and, in some ways, still are.
Sorry about that. I actually don't think I agree with you that much but I do agree that I doubt I will be saying the N word anytime soon.
