Fighting Games Weekly | Sept 23-29 | Beauty and the Beast

Ratio system is interesting I will say that much. That's probably what they will try at the next When's Marvel Weekly if they want to try something new.

Tournament is supposed to start in 15 minutes although you have to account for TST.

Edit: Actually it's live right now on FGTV!

I''d like to see a weekly tournament where a ratio system is set in place. Only problem is how to set reasonable numbers for each character.
Well for Marvel it's pretty easy.

Top 12 characters set to 5, next 10 set to 4, next 10 set to 3, next 10 set to 2 and bottom 8 set to 1. You can use up to 10 points.

Ranking is basically what the consensus is on characters in tier ranking. After that it's just assigning numbers.

Setting up which characters would be in the what tier would be difficult. Although for a weekly, an organizer could have an easier time getting a consensus of what that local UMvC3 community would like to see.

This Moba style stuff isn't even conventional character bans. Unknown last night on FGTV had the best reaction to the idea of bans. If you ban any of his characters, he's just going to play Zero. If you're a versatile player, it's really a matter of your opponent picking his poison.

When they do Ratio KOF13 (and 11 I think) tourneys at Playland Carnival in Japan, characters are mainly separated by how commonly they're used in the area:

Ratio 5 : Mr Karate
Ratio 4 : Kyo & Flaming Iori
Ratio 3 : Saiki , Benimaru , Hwa , Shen , Cat Scratch Iori
Ratio 2 : K' , Kula , Duolon , Nests Kyo , Leona , Andy , King , Kensou , Ryo , Robert
Ratio 1 : Ash , Liz , Billy , Daimon , Joe , Takuma , Mature , Vice , Kim , Yuri , Raiden , Ralf , Clark , Mai , Chin
Ratio 0 : Athena , Terry , Maxima

Each player team's must not exceed [ 6 ] , meaning that if you sortie Mr Karate, you need a ratio 1 character and a ratio 0 character or two ratio 0 to keep your team beneath [ 7 ]

This ratio list does not necessarily takes not only how strong a character is, but also how often it's played in Carnival (thus, the ratio is kinda accurate for the top tiers, but not for the bottom tier characters).

This is the end is the funniest movie in a while.

It was good clean fun.

I'm leaning towards "2" being the right number for this style. Prevents you from getting rid of someone's main team completely while not outright banning certain characters into oblivion.

I agree with two. With one there is more chance that you could substitute and make it work anyway....with certain characters (hence punishing some people a lot more than others)

Looks like they're starting work on a new Arcana Heart. It will be using the EF-12 engine mentioned a few weeks ago, and is abandoning sprites.

Hopefully Love Max hits PC.

Seeing the images of Heart in the engine test makes me think she was ripped straight out of 3D Custom Girl (and how everything from that program will probably be dumped into EF-12). If you don't know what that is, I would advise you to not Google that at work.

That 3D engine should get interesting real quick, especially as a lot of the mesh/texture/animation data from a number of 3D fighters has already been ripped. Watch, some jerkbag is going to take all of the animation and move data from VF5:FS and swap in Arcana Heart models.
And that someone may not even be me!

you know a game is in zombie state (not quite dead not quite alive) when west coast is coming up with silly tourney formats to keep it interesting

I feel like there is a lot to say about art style in fighting games.
Arcane Heart character design or Injustice's jarring animation are such a turn-off to me.

Please no.

Eh not really, people have done X Factor less tournaments and low damage setting tournaments before. There is even long set exhibitions with the following rule sets:

*No assists
*No meter
*No X factor
*No TAC/THC/DHC

It was the Brazil folks who did it with folks like Brian Kusunago.

LMAO CJ "conveniently" couldn't make it...

HAHA @ PRRog... "If they ban Wolverine I will just pick Spencer/Doom/Vergil LOL!!!"

so how is banning going to work vs. nobodies? you don't know their shit. do you just ban something you hate seeing like Vergil?

Yeah pretty much. You just ban something that your team sucks against.

Also they confirmed that ban is locked for the whole set to keep it simple. My guess is that if this becomes popular they will expand on it (allow changing bans in between rounds, maybe 2 characters banned).

you guys do realize the interview/tutorial without the footage isnt new right? gootecks and others have done it before and it is still an informative format.

Stream Monsters can't handle spoken wisdom.

I really, really hate how often every scene/game is being lumped under FGC in FGC centric areas. You guys should know better than trying to argue about this "one game's players bans, this one hates bans, FGC make up your mind!"

Every game and location has their own culture, some are pro-ban, some are anti-ban. Some scenes will play the latest version, regardless of quality, to the detriment of their own scene's health (SC3 and watch the scene fade, SF4 AE and watch the entrants lower and lower), some will say fuck this shit and bring back the old game that works (ST instead of HDR, Smash majority going back to Melee).

Yeah, you have to lock the ban in at the start of the match w/ blind picks, simply for logistics sake.

Well if it was truly MOBA style there would be a new ban phase after every round.

But yeah he said that if people like this they will elaborate on it more in the future.

And there is some serious theory fighter discussion in the chat. Finally a chat that doesn't suck ass.

Please no.
Hide yo lolis, hide you waifus, anime fighters are coming for everybody. ArcSys, Examu, and French Bread all making moves whereas Capcom and Namco are stuck in the free-to-play tarpit (with SNK as a wildcard right now and Sega doing Sega things). It wouldn't surprise me if Evo 2014 ended up turning into some weird battle between anime fighters and some unholy alliance between NRS and the ghost of Rare.
