My PS3 died... is there a good chance of a 360 version if it comes to PS3? I also own a Vita (my Persona machine) and 3DS so I wouldn't mind if they end up there.

Depending on who you ask, the answer is yes, no, maybe, no way, absolutely, 3DS4LIFE, SONY4EVER etc.

Personally I think it will be PS360 because of the install base on the two systems. But that's just me.

An ideal situation would be PS3/360/PC combo.

Having a PC version means in the future if they feel like it they could 'port' the PC version to next gen consoles with a higher graphic fidelity than current gen version.

Well red (red hair, red fog) is P4A2 at least (or however it is abbreviated)

Persona, same colour, 3 boxes, 3 characters, expected announcement.

F*** we got a winner. Looks like you are right :p
It makes the most sense. But I wonder why the Arc System logo isn't on there, unless Sho is the MC in the next Persona and takes place in the past within Inaba.

Wouldn't the Sony people be just as disappointed, if not more so, if it's announced for 3DS, though?

More so considering Persona has been exclusive to Sony systems. Good thing that will never happen.

OTP.

Me too but after seeing the flagship SMT IV being on 3DS it wouldn't suprise me to see Persona on 3DS either. Sega is going to want a return on their investment. The quickest way to do this? Release a popular title on the most popular system, 3DS.

Not to mention the relationship between Nintendo and Atlus.

Atlus' flagship series is Persona not SMT. With this train of thought all Japanese games should be releasing for 3DS, after all it is the most popular system.

If this truly is P5, I'm praying this doesn't get announced on 3DS. My heart wouldn't be able to take it especially after how good Catherine played and looked.

It wont. I have faith in Hashino. He spoke to me in my dreams

Yeah, no Arc System Logo on the channel site is interesting - also, P4U2 has its own dedicated site. I don't think that Sho is the MC for P5 for reasons we'll go into on the podcast tonight.

As for the cities, well, those are probably places where the arcade game will debut (no point priming for a loketest 2 months out lol) and/or event hubs for a new title. I might be in Nagoya in late November so there's a chance I'll be there on Sunday, 11/24.

Or Sho could be a new character in P5??? Maybe they will reveal another 3 characters and go BAM. New P5 cast??!?!

Btw how do I find your podcast I wouldn't mind listening to it. :)

MegaTen's flagship series is Shin Megami Tensei.

Maybe in the past, but since the five years of Persona 4's release, I'd say the franchise "Persona" is more known and popular than the standard Shin Megami Tensei. I'm sure it sells more and is more important to Atlus than SMT, hence why SMT IV was on 3DS and why Persona 5 will get the full budget of a current-gen console game.

Persona is probably more popular than SMT right now but I would still call SMT the flagship Atlus series.

Platform doesn't really determine whether something is flagship or not.

Sho is wearing the Persona 4 school uniform so I doubt it.

Then you should recheck the definition of the word. "Flagship" means the biggest, most popular or most important. If Persona is more popular than standard SMT games and sells more, then it is Atlus' flagship series, as I don't think they have anything bigger in their portfolio.

Persona games are obviously more marketable considering the setting and the characters' ages are very similar to the game's demographics. But has Atlus said or done anything to imply that Persona has replaced SMT as MegaTen's flagship series? Other than "I *think* P5 will be on console and I therefore *think* it will have a bigger budget than SMT IV did on the 3DS."

Persona started as a spin-off from megaten. Same with devil summoner, devil survivor. If megaten is not their flagship I don't know.

Don't Persona and SMT sell about the same? It'll be interesting to see how the next Persona does though.

You must have missed the concert series, anime, countless figures, mobile games, music albums, and now theatrical films.

In terms of story and history, Persona is a spin-off and that can't be changed, but if we are to use "flagship" in terms of business, Persona is the biggest brand the company has and yes, they are well aware of that fact.

Don't Persona and SMT sell about the same? It'll be interesting to see how the next Persona does though.

Definitely not.

No way. Persona is huge compared to SMT. SMT has a very devout fanbase, but it's far from massive. Heck, Persona's not exactly a door buster either, but P4G did do pretty well as far as I know.

That said, SMT will still remain Atlus' flagship. It's what they're most known for, and at the end of the day, Persona is still a part of the SMT core series. If Atlus had given up on everything non-Persona, Devil Survivor, Soul Hackers, and SMT core(via IV) would not still be going.

Not to mention brand recognition.

Uh, what?

The fact there are more games doesn't mean anything. You have people that think SMT is the spin-off. Persona also has waaaaaay more brand recognition because it has so many extensions into other mediums.

Atlus JP and USA are still aware that it's part of a bigger picture, and don't mean to just sit on Persona's laurels, and I'm glad for that. Notice they constantly cite 'the award-winning Shin Megami Tensei series' in their press releases.

Of course, but if we're talking about the series that's most popular and is bringing in the big bucks, it's Persona without question. It's the crown jewel of the business, all respect to SMT and it's legacy.

In an attempt to gather what we know:

Dates

- Date the Persona 5 and Persona teaser website domains were registered were on June 25, 2013.
- Date of Persona 3 The Movie #1 release: November 23, 2013 (Saturday). Released in all 6 prefectures and capitals featured on the teaser website.
- Date of reveal: November 24, 2013 (Sunday) at 20:00.

Website Information

- The persona5.jp domain and p-ch.jp were both registered on the same day, June 25, 2013, by Index corp. MysticDistance believes that the former domain was registered so that it might eventually redirect to the latter.
- The reveal will be game related as the P-Studio logo is displayed alongside the Atlus logo. Most likely Persona related considering the development studio and the domain name.
- There are specifically three boxes at the top of the page.
- The red coloring of the website, as toddhunter and others have pointed out, resembles the red coloring of P4A2's character select screen:
- The only interactive element of the website are the three boxes and the six locations at the bottom of the page. When a box is clicked on, it shakes for around a second. When a location is clicked on, it shakes for around two seconds. When any of the items are clicked on and another is clicked while the first is shaking, the first item will continue shaking indefinitely until it is clicked once again.

Previous Teasers

The only Atlus teasers of substance in this style of a mysterious website or ad I've found are:

- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon via the "On the day when Yin and Yang come together a new jiken (event/incident) will begin" tease in Famitsu on a July 2008 issue of Famitsu. The game was announced the same month.
- Devil Survivor via a Famitsu tease in an October 2008 issue. Doesn't really count since the title was outright announced, but it was still a teaser.
- Shin Megami Tensei IV via a May 2012 two-page ad in Famitsu. Doesn't really count either since what this game was as well as its platform was pretty explicit and the official website launched a day or several after the tease.

That's all I could find. It doesn't seem that Atlus has ever really teased a video game product via an actual website before? Other than things like a Persona soundtrack announced via an ad in Famitsu or a teaser website for the Persona 3 movie, all of their games seem to have been teased via Famitsu?

If this is a first, based on their history, I really wouldn't think this would be something insignificant like an iOS game or browser based game.

You're a good man, Flux.

Playing through persona 4 golden right now.

Whats up with persona 4 anime? Is it decent? Should it be watched begore or after I complete the game.

I say after, especially since you're playing through the game now. It certainly doesn't lose any relevancy just because you know how the story goes, and the more character-focused beats will be nice callbacks to the game, versus just being a little odd out of context.

Anyways, dunno if it means anything but the boxes on the teaser site are shaped differently into squares on mobile.

Probably just some funny formatting thing.

Hm... intentionally designed so that the contents of those boxes might be resized and still look nice?

That's what I was thinking. It's a common thing for websites to do that, just makes me more curious about what's gonna be in them, logos, characters, etc.

Sho is wearing the Persona 4 school uniform so I doubt it.

What if this game took place in the past and he was a student at Inaba. Sho could be the shop keeper ya know :)

Man...please be Persona 5...and please be on PS3 at least. I don't know why they'd go through the effort to use Catherine as a test for the graphics and such and then not release the new Persona on there. I wouldn't turn down a handheld only version but...it's gotta be on Vita or console for me. Persona's style needs to be expressed more.

Yeah, it's just formatting for a mobile site.

The boxes should be links to the sites for the announcements, which are presumably all run out of P-Studio, whatever they are.

My wife (who has never played the game) and I (who has) both enjoyed it. If you're planning on playing the game, I'd recommend playing it before watching it. Doesn't really matter that much though since the game & the anime both have the same basic plot.

And this is definitely not related to the P4U update? I'm keeping my excitement in check... but please god let it be P5.

And this is definitely not related to the P4U update? I'm keeping my excitement in check... but please god let it be P5.

It could be. But then one would have to wonder why the teaser wouldn't be within the official P4A2 website.

The teaser website launched on the same day P4A2 was announced. The date on the website as well as the locations could be related related to the arcade release of that game. The image of the television at the bottom of the P4A2 website actually links to the teaser website.

However, why go through the trouble of establishing an obscure, vague teaser website for something that would be relatively small knowing their history of teasers? The trailer for P4A2 stated that the arcade release would be in winter 2013, so why then make a separate website showing a specific date if that would supposed to be about the arcade release? Why not just announce it via the trailer?

It's worth noting that Arc System Work's logo is not present on the teaser website. Sure, I guess they could just hide it secretly so that people didn't immediately realize what it was about... but that's just dumb.

I know you guys have moved on, but I must say it's really weird to see a few people here against the idea of a Persona game being on the 3DS. I hadn't realized there was a split between the two.

If that's the case then how much do the games usually sell then? They never really seemed that different to me.

I'd say Persona is roughly 6x more successful(based on SMTIV reportedly doing some 30K? and P4G doing 200k or so on the Vita).

And they're night and day. Persona involve students, high school drama, and dating. SMT IV is devil summoners fighting religious factions and demonic gatherings.

Both involve the occult, but SMT is more heavy on it.

SMT IV did 65-70k in its first month. Soul Hackers did around 30k. The 200k figure is factoring in P4 PS2 and P4G.

Persona is noticeably more popular but I wouldn't call it HUGE compared to mainline SMT.

SMTIV did a lot more than 30k and I think it passed up SMTIII's LTD in both the US and Japan back in June/July.

Which is kind of wierd when you think about it. Nintendo is usually associated with the more light-hearted stuff

Looking at first week Japan sales (main entries are bolded):

[PS2] Persona 4 (Atlus) - 193,000
[3DS] Shin Megami Tensei IV (Atlus) - 188,562
[PS2] Shin Megami Tensei III (Atlus) - 151,203
(Famitsu)
[PSV] Persona 4 Golden (Atlus) - 137,076
[PS2] Persona 3 - 116,682
[NDS] Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (Atlus Co.) - 97,221
[PSP] Persona 3 Portable (Atlus Co.) - 94,287
[PS2] Persona 3: Fes (Atlus) - 90,369

It's not obvious that Persona is much more popular than SMT. Also note that both series sell more in Japan than in other territories.
