Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Fashionably late.

From today until the 30th, anyone interested in voting for next month's Game of the Month must PM me with their top 5 choices, in order of preference. If you don't provide an order, I'll assume that the order you list them in is the preference. Each game gets points in order of preference, from 5 to 1, and the game with the most points is the winner. Once a game has been chosen, I'll randomly ask someone who voted for the game as #1 to provide a short write-up for it like the one in this and the previous threads.

Criteria for voting:
  • Games voted for must have been released at any time prior to the month the thread is for, including previous months.
  • Only games released up to the 24/25th, the last PSN update days in September, will count for this round of voting.
  • Retail, Digital only and PlayStation Mobile games are all valid.
Note - If you vote for a game that's already been selected as GotM, I'll disregard it's placement and scroll everything else up by one. For reference, the following games have already been selected previously.

CHOOSE WISELY.

holy crap

it finally happened

saw a vita being played in the wild. inside a mcdonalds. vita saved, confirmed.

I actually did a double take just in case I was confusing it for a PSP, lmao

1- bring back your old avatar.

2- I saw a young boy playing with Shield in mall, it mean nothing.

Oh, so you didn't stick to the basic skills. Izanagi is still pretty good if you have the right skills on him.
Every Persona in P4G can be good as long as you have the skill cards and stat ups. It's just that Yoshitsune can literally become invincible due to his resistances. ;)

Well I thought Yoshitsune was a beast more because of the ridiculously overpowered power charge + hassou tobi combo rather than its resistances.

Started Lone Survivor on PC yesterday. It's excellent, I'm afraid to say. Really enjoying the atmosphere and I don't normally do scary stuff. I really wanted it to suck so I wouldn't feel conflicted about which platform to play it on. Incredible that one guy did this (and the music).

Played some more P4G (which is obviously excellent) and Uncharted:GA.

And the more I play of the latter, the less I like it. Up to chapter 9 and the shooting is just very boring and every time I get into a shootout I wish I could skip it. It doesn't help that neither side characters nor the dialogue are that good either. And as I mentioned before, it looks really "off", most likely because of the sub-native resolution. I really liked UC2 which I played through at a friends' place in its entirety but I just can't get into GA and I'm only playing it because I got it for free.

Yeah, the focus on Dante just was bad because he is a bad and boring character. and Marisa is really just a shitty clone of Elena.

One of U:GA mistake is that it tried to keep Uncharted "feel" while trying to get shorter levels, it just don't work.

UC2 is amazing, UC1 is pretty good, U:GA is decent but flawed and UC3 is a horrible abomination.

Marisa over Elena any day. Sorry, but that's just
opinion masquerading as
fact.

Really liked her story and VO work.

Golden Abyss was flawed, but set the groundwork for some good iteration. If they have to include the touch puzzles/busywork - which actually thematically fits the treasure-hunting aspect more than shooting hundreds of goons - make them interesting, not just cleaning activities and mindless screen scrubbing.

I read that, UC3 in top and UC2 in bottom..and I was like "wha?"

but at least you know it's wrong and edited it. :P

It's not about who's wrong (I certainly am not)...
I just don't feel like throwing the thread stray with the arguments over which Uncharted ranks where.
Same with P3P and P4G and all that jazz.

I just got a white Vita, like that it feels light compared to my first one. But why does the whole PS button glow blue instead of just the logo? It's pretty distracting.

My #1 complaint as well!

So at Macy's today I noticed that we sell PSP gos at our eSpots (vending machines for electronics). I lol'd. Seriously though, it flopped hardcore and didn't Sony pretty much discontinue it? They still stock it apparently (if one of my coworkers is to be believed).

Whole button lights up on the black Vita too. It's because the button is transparent. It stands out more against white than against black though (for obvious reasons), so it really isn't noticeable on the black Vita.

I think that the PSP Go was ahead of its time. Digital distribution was still relatively new when it came out. It's a shame because it was an awesomely made system. Although picking it up nowadays and holding it alongside the Vita it looks so dated.

PSPgo allowed Sony to get a few hundred PSP games on PSN so that Vita could have some backwards compatibility. That's a win.

Oh, I'm not trying to trash talk the PSP go. Just thought it was odd that they still stocked it. I don't think we even carry 3DS systems like other Macy's stores do, which seems kind of weird as well.

How much is it? I've wanted to rebuy a PSP Go ever since trading in mine for a Vita. It's such a great little portable.

Has anyone played Madden 13 on Vita? I bought Madden 12 on PSP for about $5 last year and I'm looking to upgrade so I don't have to dig out my PSP every time I want to play football. Are there any game breaking glitches or anything? I'm basically looking for just a functional game similar to Madden 12.

Wonder whether I should go buy Lone Survivor straight away or wait for sales...

*Wistle wistfully*

Wait.

I've joined the PSV3DS club http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o557/ohdenny/IMAG0054_zps81a1d80f.jpg [/QUOTE]

Congrats

get SS and P4G.

and if you in NA region buy the amazing Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure, but if you are in europe then..I feel sorry for you.

Was too small for me, It gave me painful hand cramps after few mins of use.

but I notice people with small hands really love it, same with GBAmicro (which is wrost handheld ever hand-cramps wise for people with big hands). I love my handheld to be comfortable and can use it for hours that why I really love my huge portable Tank.

Jury's still out for me. Based on everything I've read, I'm going to say Legends loses out to Origins based on the touch-only levels (unless they patch it so you can play them like the PC/PS3/360 versions).

That's another hard one -- the sheer time to get all the mastery stuff plus some of the online trophies are pretty difficult.

They're both difficult, but not necessarily because of skill. Some places, sure, but not all... a lot of the problems with them have to deal with the online trophies or time requirements.

Nice reference.

I actually like the touch levels. Murphy moves at a decent clip, so it's really involving. I'm a fan.

Wait.

I had a PSV already just bought a 3DS for Pokemon =D
Still haven't bought SS, might wait for Delta actually and you'll feel sorry for me.

get Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (only game I play on it nowdays) and also wait for Bravely Default.

Well... waiting for Delta is kinda wise, unless you get SS for cheap then get SS.

How are the controls? I played a demo for MH3 and I hated not having dual analogs or is that not necessary for Luigi?

Luigi's Mansion wasn't as good as I was hoping.
And the end of it was just horribly designed.

Anyone looking at SS should probably look to see if Delta is coming over.

Not really necessary -- you can spin the camera a bit by tilting the 3DS if you need to... but mostly, you don't need to.
It controls well, there's just some ridiculous levels towards the end. :\

This....is hilarious.....as I also work for the mighty Macy's, and was just recently wondering about my local electronic vending machines stock...with those VIP sales and our discounts....we could potentially get a heckuva deal...

Just beat Uncharted. Loved it. It was really damn good, great length too.

Loved:
-Sometimes the touch to climb gimmick was really useful when I kept missing a jump
-Graphics were great
-I thought the story was acceptable (it was a little different from U1-3 from what I remember)
-Great characters (but not really the villains), everything felt pretty believable though!

My complaints:
-I didn't like how the treasures were set up.
-The two 'boss' fights
-I hated some of the swipe gimmicks and the balance gimmick
-Shooting took me 32 chapters to get used to.

It wasn't ahead since smartphones were already super hot items when it released.

But the pricing sucked - and it still does to this day.

It really bugged me the Chase "i don't want to use a gun" thing. Drake's need to go through
like 500 dudes, a dozen of rescues and a couple of near-death moments before she says: "Ok, give me that"
. I think
she should have accepted shooting before, during the chapters where they were in the favelas
. And I prefer Chloe and Elena.

Though as I play of U2, I prefer more and more the approach Golden Abyss has when fighting enemies. I'm not a lover of shooting games, so I think it was pretty good having quite a lot of stealth sections, small groups of enemies and such things. The rest of the games are more action than adventure. And, though fighting in a city was pretty cool in U2, the battles were longer than I really like. The story and setpieces are a lot more interesting, though. And the funny moments are better in U2 too.

Welcome to the best club! Get Fire Emblem.

As for your complaint about MH3U, I never needed a second analogue and the touch screen controls for the camera or the "lock on" were enough for me. I suggest you give it a second try, it's one of the best games on the system.

Yeah I played the demo really liked it.
I'll give MH another try.

Stealth was nicely done for this game, though not realistic since the soldiers can't hear you when you're running behind them. I loved being able to just touch the stealth button and have it done. Melee worked sometimes too but I hated having to swipe.

And agreed with the Chase thing, I also don't know why Dante suddenly said what he said near the end lol. Made little sense to me.

It's pretty late right now so I deleted UC and installed FF8 on my memory card. Gonna start that in bed. :)

EDIT: ALSO, Chloe! :)

Shit, now that i'm playing Uncharted 2, I remember why I put so much time on my Vita.

I've played two times. Yesterday for three or four hours (longest time I played anything for a while, but i was sucked into its story xD), with my father watching me playing instead of paying attention to his laptop. And, well, it wasn't just watching. He was asking my every three minutes (what's happening?) making comments or saying me how to resolve a puzzle whose answer I know. I had to tell him half-joking the I was going to send him to the bed if he continued talking in the cutscenes.

And this morning I've been asked for everything while playing. And my father started sweeping in front of the TV. And when they finally left home, I had to clean the kitchen, the balcony and take a shower (i don't mind cleaning neither taking a shower, that's not the point xD).

Remote-play and Gaikai can't come soon enough xD.

Got back into soul sacrifice again recently. Over 90 hours played now, 99/1 Divine build maining blood damage with blanket, golumn and stasis. Can really get the damage out as well as high survivability to. Using blood and force damage sigils. Pretty much have all digits I want as well now. 2 I kinda want but arnt vital.

Platinumed it the other day and still playing it (working through the DLC). I think it's the only game where I platnumed it and then carried on playing. Almost done all DLC as well now. Last two pacts in god dlc plus a few more from some DLC I only just realised I hand' downloaded.

I have played a fair but online but I'm surprised how much I just did solo. It's all pretty much doable single player which is great. Online is more fun but still.

There are a few 5 min pacts and the take no damage ones but I don't really enjoy those so they don't bother me.

Game is just so good. Really glad they will be making more.

Need a small break before I do the last few bits though so I am downloading line survivor. Looks pretty interesting.

Since I just finished Dragon's Crown on Infernal and got my The Destroyer trophy, I will load up Katamari and check for you. Stay tuned. :P

Make it Big 4: Rich, right?

Edit: Ok, just dusted off Katamari and took a crack at it... ended up with 1m 23cm 5 mm with 134 rich collected (4 star).

I think it's more general tips I'm about to give here, as there's not a specific strategy I can find for this level or a key tactic.
In general, with this game, it pays to exploit the stretch out mechanic. So first thing as soon as you start, pull your katamari to make it flat and wide. Then roll around and pick stuff up. Move in circles where you can see things that look like you're big enough. Stay on the desk for a bit then work down to the floor -- when the king tells you to go outside (20cm?) take another sweep to get some extra stuff... then roll out. If you see something that would benefit you from changing shapes to normal or tall/thin, do it (example, in section 3, there's a gap between counter and fridge with a tall stack of items; or fitting on the side of the house between the house and the fence once you're big enough). From there, just keep applying the strategy of being wide and low most of the time with the L and R shoulder buttons for jump and quick turn. If things look like there's nothing available, try working your way up on top of something.

Part of it is learning where some of the things are in the level and figuring out where you like to go. Part of it is learning to judge whether or not you can pick something up and how much you need to head for the next cluster of slightly larger objects. And part of it is learning to exploit the moves I mentioned above to get around more quickly.

Good luck.
Thanks :)

So I'm already bored of Killzone Mercenary. Maybe I played the beta too much or something. I wish I got Rayman Legends instead now.

It's a great fps but my problem is I an pretty bored of that genre. I basically just play a few games here and there and that's it. I used to be able to play fps games for hours at a time but now i can only do a couple of games then stop.
