No offense, but I have no clue why people think this.

This gen was sub-HD/below 720p. I dunno why people suddenly expected anything but 720p or sub-1080p on the new gen consoles.

Can they do 1080? Yeah, just like this previous generation. But if launch titles can't even do sub-1080 it's gonna be really insane these next few years unless the consoles have some optimization coding these launch titles or next one-two years don't find or know.

Maybe it's just the inner-cynic in me that made me leery about all the claims of reaching 1080p. I expected 720p at max and it seems that's how the generation is going to go. But hey, at least "basic HD" is better than "sub-720p" so it's a baby step. Maybe BF5 will be sub-1080p on consoles in a year.

I don't think they will do this, it would be just too obvious at this point. Sure the PS4 version may only be 900p instead of 1080p, but for me it still will be superior compared to the PC version, because on PC you have to turn most settings to low to be really competitive, on PS4 you don't have to do this and everyone will have high settings, which is really great in my opinion.

I really feel like GAF has bought into the PS4 hype a little too much...don't get me wrong numbers are numbers, but lots of people on here are probably gravely overestimating the real world differences between the two consoles. ...I own every current console and a gaming pc. If I'm really worried about graphics, my consoles don't even enter my thought process, and haven't for years.

Also, comparing single player Killzone footage to 64 player BF4 footage doesn't make much sense to me either. BF4 being a cross gen title might also have some effect. I don't see an equal comparison there.

This graph shows that BF4 should be running at 1080p60 on the PS4. DICE have no excuses. It doesn't have to run at 'Ultra' settings. It can be 'High' settings. No need for 4xMSAA either. There should be no conceivable scenario where a PC equivalent yields superior performance to the console version. Fact: it just shows the game wasn't optimised well.

single player with a much better CPU.

It proves nothing in relation to the ps4. It is also different game with a different engine variant.

Also, the dice tech team is extremely competent, calling their work "unoptomized" is silly. They are one of the few multiplatform devs to really take advantage of SPUs last gen.

What about 60 fps KZ:SF multiplayer footage to 60 fps multiplayer BF4? of course you can't expect the same level of optimization, but if it was dropped from 1080 down to 720, that would be huge, 1080 is 2.25x as many pixels as 720. I fully expect 900/60 on PS4 if the xb1 is 720/60.

Also there's really nothing to buy into, the GPU is 40% more Flops and double the ROPS with a better Ram set up and is easier to develop for, whilst both console are reasonably similar architecturally (other than esram) so the raw performance metrics can be compared directly.

I've only seen the people who are MS-bias claiming GAF is Sony bias. In their minds it works like, 'what, people don't think the same way as I do about MS? they must be bias, as I am clearly impartial'.

Actually no, it shows BF3 should be running at 1080p60 if it were being released on PS4.


Fact: it just shows the game has higher HW requirements because it's doing more than its predecessor. Which is ... you know ... what you expect from a sequel.

Xbone has gpu similar to that of a 7770 and the ps4 has one similar to a 7850.

BTW an update (not sure if already posted)

After the review of the product, during a Q&A session with the personnel at the DICE booth, we learned that the developer aims to have the same frame rate and resolution for the Xbox One and PS4 retail versions. We modified the contents of the article to match. Final specifications are unknown until officially published by EA DICE.

That's not fair at all.

Guerilla Games are releasing on a single platform, whereas DICE are launching on five. Battlefield also exists on a far greater scale to Killzone. 64 players, destruction, map size(including playable space), and vehicles. I think they're both of similar technical achievement in their own separate ways, but I think DICE certainly took on the harder challenge.

Not saying CPU performance doesn't matter but you can't compare between PC and consoles CPU. Planetside 2 will be the best example of that.

Also Resolution isn't really a CPU bottle neck at higher resolutions, once you get to 900p or so, CPU demand doesn't really increase any more see here:

I'm...okay with this. Hell, I'm actually happy with this.

I don't play on PC so going from 32 to 64 players and getting 60 fps at 720p is perfectly fine with me.

Guess I'm just easily satisfied.

EA has Xbone exclusivity deals with several of their games, why would they discourage Xbone sales by giving it a inferior version of one of their big titles?
