Do you recognize your fellow gaffers ?

I was not quite sure how to phrase that question, but basically, when you enter a thread and read the posts, do you recognize the posters and do you remember their post history or their personality (besides mods) ? If you do, can you recognize that poster with their username alone, avatar alone or both ?

For me, while I certainly recognize avatars very often, as they are more eye-catching than usernames, the number of gaffers of whom I remember the personality are in the low numbers. Very low, in fact, when taking into consideration the number of people who post on here. The ones I do recognize, I'll usually remember their username as well.

I know Perfo and Luukyk, because how can you not, them having a Lightning fetish; Clevinger, who posts eloquently and seems quite knowledgeable; Shinobi, because he constantly report on news and probably has the best avatar on Neogaf; Wario, (lol); Ivysaur, for a reason I can't remember but there is one; and I guess that's about it.

I've often seen posters refer to others by (user)name and me going: "should I know this dude ? I've been here for three years..." Maybe I haven't been here that long. Or maybe I'm not trying hard enough. Or maybe I'm thinking about this too much and it doesn't really matter because video game forums.

I'm just curious though. Whom here do you recognize and remember some of their post history ? How about me ? Can you spot my avatar or username and go "yep, this fits with his persona alright" ?

Yup. Pretty weird though when you lurked for almost five years and knew people from their posts for so long and then finally started interacting with them.

Yes.

This, though, no.

May be because I don't recognize you as well though.

Haven't been posting here regularly for too long but yeah, I'm starting to get to know some people.

For the first four year or so not at all..but that's because I was mainly gaming side where opinions matter little. After transitioning to OT I definitely recognize people quicker, but some people I feel like I know too much about them behind the screen because of how open they are here and it can turn me off from engaging them.

I don't know if I've been around that long to recognize posting styles. This is a pretty big-ass board. I do recognize the most prolific posters, though it would be hard to say if I recognize them out of their actual posting style, or because of the abundance of posts and ample online personas.

I saw a guy in the library yesterday with a MLP button and a pink 3DS and I was sure he was a gaffer.

I really only recognize people when I get involved in a sub-community or something. Otherwise I typically stop at "I recognize they avatar".

I'd recognize the handful of NeoGAFers I met IRL and of course most of the mods.

N'Gai Croal randomly recognized me when I went to NYCC and that was weird. It was like what I imagine it is to have a 15 minute youtube video get famous and be known for that. Awkward but neat.

Wow, I totally read the entire OP wrong.

Yes, I recognize most GAFers that post even semi-frequently by either their avatar image or their name. But it takes a little while.

Yeah, it's usually how I identify people until their username sticks in my head. I've gotten recognized off site by a gaffer too during a clinical trial.

fellow gaffers

I find myself doing it more often. I might not recognize someone if they change their avatar, but I quickly learn.

I love a ton of folk on here, so there's that too.

Sometimes. I haven't been here more than six months, so the number is very low compared to the number of people who post here.

Recognize a lot of GAFHOP ppl, and random people from ot sometimes. I have avatars turned off on mobile so I o mostly by name.

Gaming side all talk the same. Bunch of nerds.

Sure by avatar first then eventually username. It's funny, I can tell when a thread is from some posters just by the title.
