Oh man, Chesnaught... =(

I love Chespin, no questions asked. Qualladin gained a little weight, but I still stuck by his side. But Chesnaught... oh God, what did Game Freak do to you, you poor little (big) bastard...

To be honest, it's not the design that's really bothering me, that part is actually ok. It's the COLOR SCHEME!. He goes from almost entirely green/brown, with hints of red on his quills to almost ENTIRELY WHITE with odd bits of green and brown thrown in. It's almost like they didn't even bother to look at what the previous evolution looked like. The color scheme just kills the evolution completely, had they done the colors right it could have been a pretty awesome looking final evolution.

That said, I'll still be going with Chespin as my starter. As awful as his final form looks, I always stick by starter, through thick and horrible final evolutions =|
Seems like you could stick an Eviolite on Quilladin and hope for the best.

Chestnaut changed color because plants turn brown over time as they die. It's meant to show he's a veteran, which is also why his fur is a lighter color. I do agree that I'd prefer a more vivid color scheme.

....confirmed. ; (

If they can't get the regular color scheme right, I'm terrified to see what his shiny will look like. Not to mention, I have this obsession-compulsive thing about using the starter I picked ALL the way through (Yeah, I know it's not a real thing, but I like to think I'm forming some kind of bond with my first Pokemon in each new region). Because of that, even if his shiny looks great, I can't use it anyways since I'll have picked a shiny-less Chespin at the beginning. =|

Oh well, I guess I don't have to evolve him. He might be a bit weaker, but at least he'll still have his dignity.

I'm with you. I have ocd because Samurott was awful to use thought BW1 for me...Oshawott and Dewitt so good though. BW2 I picked Snivy, ended up being my fav

Does anyone know (if you still have all the hardware like the gba, wireless adapter, DS etc) if you can still use the trade systems to transport a pokemon from the original red game to the latest games?

Still have my lvl 100 arcanine on there, I think.

Don't think so.
Gen 2->Gen 3 is impossible.

the farthest back you can go is the gba games

Is Chesnaught suppose to have a tail there? It doesn't seem to be part of the armor since the other screenshot angle de-confirms that.

So I guess I'm the only one that likes the oversized bowser shell aspect of it?

His limbs look fucking terrible though, and I hate the color scheme. Definitely considering going Froakie now.

Well, I pretty much hate the final grass and fire dudes. Visually just hitting all the wrong notes for me. I'm hoping they look better in motion though, or in official art.

Will either go with Froakie, or go mono-fire if there are any other fire 'mons to add to the three starters you get.

Btw, that reminds me, are HMs a prominent thing, or are they still more relaxed as in B2/W2?

Final evos for starters aren't terrible but I am not that impressed by Fennekin's and Chespin's. Froakie is pretty cool.

If its Pokemon Red you are out of luck. If its Pokemon FireRed then -> Diamond/Pearl -> Black/White(2) -> X/Y

no. Gen III rebooted the way the game's IVs and EVs worked and you can only go as far back as Gen III. you can still bring Gen III pokes up to the newest games.

To be strictly honest, it's the shell that ruins the design. Should've incorporated some type of shield. How many starter shell-type pokemon are we going to have?

Yeah The shell is so out of place for me and the overall color/look.

Grass/fighing is what I wanted but....not like this...

If you showed me Chesnaught next to Quilladin and Chespin and didn't tell me they were all the same evolutionary chain, I would never have thought it myself.

I see Swampert and Meganium hate, WTF Villager. :-(

I was talking strictly Starters. I agree with the rest of your argument though.

Edit: why is Gaf hating on Gen 2? Typhlosion and Poke'Croc are cool :(
Sorry I was so testy, and yeah, the starters in Gen 5 aren't very good. Emboar has a wrestler look which is kinda cool, but the fire beard looks awkward. Serperior is just boring; it looks too much like Servine.

Samurott looks decent with the samurai aesthetic, but I wish its sprites would better show that it actually can use its swords.

As for the new ones, Chesnaught is okay if a bit odd and I already love Greninja (but I'm naming mine Frogardier). Delphox is the one that just doesn't excite me in any way.

Dolphox is easily my favorite of the three. Best typing, and a unique design. Chesnaught has the worst typing, and a weird design. Greninja has a pretty cool typing and an ok design.

Pretty excited for the game. Getting Fennekin for sure. Hoping its a special attack sweeper
