Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Not games related, but new vita owner question. In settings there is a "use WiFi in power save made" that is a check box. Does this mean WiFi stays on when vita is sleeping, or does it mean it uses a power save mode on the WiFi chip?

I think this is the girl from the first game sister?

use that to turn powersaving on so you stop wifi during sleep mode.

uncheck it if you want Wifi to keep downloading when Vita go sleep.

Near wouldn't open randomly the other day and said I needed to delete all near data to continue. I let that simmer for a few days, hoping PS support on Twitter/the forum would possibly shine a little light on whether this meant my miles would be wiped.

Well I bit the bullet just now and my 82,000 miles are no more. The many trips and places I went with this lovely piece of hardware shall only live on in my memories. I feel slightly betrayed by the ease in which my Vita was able to toss aside those experiences and move on. I'm well aware there's people out there with way more miles on their systems, and that it's a really trivial thing in the end...but to me it meant something.

I'm fascinated by location logging and tracking (my cell phone giving me detailed maps and routes of travel never fails to give me a kick), and compared to my 3DS the Vita seemed to actually care where we went together. All the while I never really got any gameplay benefits from near like I do with StreetPass.

All in all, I'm a little bummed now. :/

God bloody damn it so this is the culprit why my Vita pauses download when it turns to sleep?

Do you think that's better than Zen Pinball 2?

Zen Pinball 2 is more "flashy" but the general consensus seem to think that Pinball Arcade is more "accurate". Though for the life of me I can't really tell the difference.

It seems that "Wifi Powersave" option is actually a misnomer.

On means that the console will allocate less juice on the wifi, saving battery but the connection won't be as strong and stable.
Off means that it will spend more juice on it, giving you less battery life but a stronger connection.

It's very easy to interpret it as on - wifi will still be active when the system is sleeping and off - no wifi if the system is asleep

That said it still craps out and downloads still pause themselves if my wifi is spotty. In comparison on the PS3, regardless of how spotty the wifi it will always resume

I sold my Vita in April 2012 but decided to do a list of all the Vita/PSP/PSX titles I have in my download list and came up with this (Bold = titles I own, the rest are PS+)

Vita:

Chronovolt
Coconut Dodge
Escape Plan
Gravity Rush
Jak and Daxter Trilogy
Knytt Underground
Limbo
Little Kings Story
Lumines
Mortal Kombat
Motorstorm RC
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Puddle
Rayman Origins
Sine Mora
Stealth Inc.
Street Fightert x Tekken
Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
Thomas Was Alone
Touch my Katamari
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Unit 13
Velocity Ultra
Virtues Last Reward
When Vikings Attack
Wipeout

PSP

Corpse Party
The Warriors

PSX

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Vagrant Story

When I looked at this list, I went straight to ebay and bought a Vita and a 16GB memory card. I cannot wait for it to turn up now. Gonna start compiling a list of PSP and Vita titles I wanna grab, but Batman: Arkham Origins is definitely one that I think i'll be getting. Any impressions out there?

Killzone Mercenary should be priority 1.

That game is BEAUTIFUL.

Mine is checked. And it works fine for me. Then again, if I want something to download, I let it go to auto-sleep instead of pushing the power button to initiate standby.

How to put it, so more people can get it.
Zen Pinball 2 is more like the Saints Row of pinball. It's very arcade-y and you can get astronomical scores on tables and stuff. Flashy is a good partial description.
Pinball Arcade is like GTA in that it tries to be more realistic and grounded to sort of simulate the experience. To use your term, it's supposed to be more accurate or analogous to playing on a real pinball table.

I like Sonic Spinball and Metroid Prime Pinball... so I personally prefer Zen Pinball 2.

Yes, mainly because, well, it is.

Can't agree with you there, friend-o.
Maybe it's because I'm in NA and you're in AU. :P

I about to buy a Vita anyone test the Wifi on their OLED system, like what speeds you getting on good network, it supports WirlessN right?

I'll go ahead and buy Vita 2000 anyway (because I want new colors), then decide whether I can keep up with the screen quality :D

Just 2 runthroughs left of DC before platinum get.

The amazon was amazing. Amazonzing.

Currently Sorceress and Amazon are my favorites. Dwarf is third. Fighter is last, there's almost no way in hell he climbs out of sixth place for me.

About to run the elf next.

Wow, RO:Ace has something cool...

Just a question: is it possible for me to output my current Vita to the TV via VitaTV?

Just a question: is it possible for me to output my current Vita to the TV via VitaTV?

I don't understand the question, really, but I think the answer is no.

Vita TV will:
Basically act as Vita hardware that connects to your TV. Put in a Vita Memory card or game, I assume, and it will play said game on the screen using a DS3 (or DS4 eventually). Vita TV will also let you stream media via apps for services like netflix and hulu, I think. And let you stream a PS4 to a TV connected to Vita TV (think remote play).

However, if you're asking if you can somehow stream your Vita to the Vita TV and play on TV using the Vita as the controller? I don't think so.

I want to use my Vita as a wireless controller, with game card & memory card in the VitaTV... I know we can't, but I'm hoping I can eventually. I'd prefer to buy a unit without a DS3 for $100.

I don't think it will ever happen.

You're basically buying a second Vita without a screen or buttons, which is why it costs $100.

Since you can't stream a Vita to a Vita, I don't think you're going to see that function appear.

I think, in principle, the reason a PS4 can stream to a VitaTV is because a PS4 can stream to a Vita as remote play. Same concept.

As of now it doesn't look like the 64gb card is coming west in '13... if anyone is the fence about importing.

This helps. I just really wish I knew what the free space really was.

Ah I see. Maybe I should realize that other people have opinions, but then again what can I get angry at?

IMO, most overrated is VII. People should be praising VIII instead.

I think VIII is actually better than VII. But don't say it loud, someone can send you a threat letter or something.

It plays so well that I had to pull myself from the demo.

How are the shooting controls? It was its most annoying flaw.

You can't buy Vita TV without a controller? That seems... short-sighted.

Can anyone who's ordered from Amazon Japan let me know how easy it is to get on of those 64gb cards sent to me? I bought something off the European site and it was painless, but is the Japanese one restrictive?

The only things Amazon Japan will ship outside of Japan are items in the books, music, and "DVD" (video) categories.
So all videogame stuff is out. You'd have to use a proxy remailer service if you wanted to order it from Amazon Japan.

I'm not wanting to stream content, I'm trying to send button input signals from the Vita in my hand to the VitaTV, like using the Vita as a controller on LBP2, Guacamelee, or SF x Tekken.

Vita can communicate with other Vita systems via adhoc and internet. What I do on my system is interpreted and displayed on another system in almost real time. It would probably be much less complicated to do purely for UI outside of a game-to-game environment, wired or wireless.

They can do it... but I don't know if they will because few people will own both. Plus, if they do, the same people who trumpet the idea that owning a 32GB card is mandatory and say Vita costs $300, will beat $400 as a dead horse and act like you can't buy them separately. ugh already.

so sony bend is hiring. Their latest opening was posted today

http://jobs.gamasutra.com/job/senior-staff-character-shader-texture-artist-bend-oregon-25217

And it has the same description or a very similar one to the job posting that got some attention last year

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/15/uncharted-vita-dev-sony-bend-working-on-new-vita-title

The funny thing is it says PS4/vita as the platforms but the description is pretty much mainly about vita

They have around 3 more postings too all posted last month or so. None of them have any platforms specified

so I guess like they hinted during gamescom they are making a ps4 game (multiplat with vita I guess). I can't imagine them expanding to two teams to make two different games either as they prefer staying a small dev team.

But yea I would be highly disappointed if this is a multiplat. Vita needs at least 1-2 big exclusive titles every year from sony

Well, it could probably be a Vita game with a PS4 version with some tweaks like better lighting, textures, antialiasing and that kind of stuff.

Sad, I guess, but it's better than nothing.

Thank you for the information. Hope a european import store stocks them soon. Importing myself is too big of an hassle because my next customs office is far away.

Without a new bubble limit, this will mean goodbye to many of my PSM games.

After being disappointed by the new Vita, I finally decided to go for a used OLED model + 32gb card + P4G aka the only retail game I really wanted. I won't play P4G anytime soon though as I don't have the time now for such a game.

Regarding Plus I will join the club some time soon. I am in Europe btw. Until when will Gravity Rush and Uncharted be free? As for the monthly games I don't care one bit for SFxT, especially on a portable, but how about Touch my Katamari? Is it any good compared to the other games or is more or less the same? I loved the first one, then played the second one and just got bored, so I am not sure if this will be any different.
Then there's also Jak Trilogy, but I 've already played 1 and 2 so maybe I 'll pass on this too.

As for PS1 or PSP games they 're never included in the PS+ free games, right? I missed some of the sales such as the Big in Japan thing which apparently was quite good. Oh well, I 'll wait for the next chance, I hope that they do these things often.

its already there. I live in the Netherlands, and last week i became a psplus member, and gravity rush, uncharted, sf x tekken, and 2 indie games are free.

Oops sorry didnt read it right. My bad! But uncharted is free as long your a member.

I reached the second half of Uncharted Golden Abyss
where you partner up with Chase and go find her grandfather
and I don't hate it anymore. Still some bullshit portions from time to time but all in all it's somewhat improving. Feels like I got more freedom during fights and there's more climbing and light exploration. Chemistry between Drake and Chase is also improving. Still not BEST GAME EVA but it doesn't feel like work anymore.

Ok, quoting myself here because apparently I wasn't even close to the midpoint. I reached chapter
21
and apparently there's
13
more to go. Nice.

They cramped too much of the gimmicks in the beginning which is why many people dislike the game at the start. Pacing gets much better afterwards.

Except, it totally isn't.

People tend to like Pinball Arcade because it has models of real tables that they love. But Zen Pinball 2 is better in almost every way otherwise, and on the Vita, it's just no contest whatsoever.

This is actually not true because the only table I ever played before I got my hands on Pinball Arcade was Medieval Madness.

* The tables in Arcade just have better themes while Zen feels extremely generic.
* The controls on Zen are floaty suck while Pinball Arcade is a ton tighter and more responsive.
* The physics are nowhere near as satisfying in Zen compared to Arcade - the ball moves faster and smoothly and collisions are handled a ton better in Arcade.
* Both the two points I just described lead to Zen being a lot easier and unsatisfying in comparison to Arcade in general.
* Arcade has a lot more longevity than Zen goals-wise, especially with ten table goals per table in comparison to the two to five in Zen.
* The real life voices and likenesses in Arcade are a leap ahead of the (mostly) soundalikes they have in Zen.

While there is better multiplayer integration in Zen, it is mostly for useless stuff (like the "team score"). You can't argue graphics because Arcade is trying to actively recreate the original tables - Zen can make everything look as flashy as it like, not to mention the two games are pretty on the level presentation wise.

And in terms of table library...most of the tables in Arcade are just more fun and addicting than most Zen tables. The only two tables that I can think of that drew me in within the Zen library are Plants vs Zombies and Epic Quest, meanwhile I can name over half a dozen in Pinball Arcade (Attack from Mars, Big Shot, Whirlwind, Cactus Canyon, Medieval Madness, Star Trek, Terminator 2...) I will be honest though, I don't own the entire Zen library, I only own the original concept tables, the Star Wars Pinball tables and Plants vs Zombies (no Marvel tables, no other game-based tables).

Both Zen Pinball and Pinball Arcade play great though obviously have slightly different physics (my preference is for TPA's feel).

But ultimately the enjoyment comes from the table design. If i had to play a great table like Theatre of Magic (TPA) using the Zen physics, i wouldn't really mind, and vice versa for a great Zen table like Excalibur.

Get some of the demo tables for both, and see which game has the most tables you like - it's all but guaranteed that you won't like every last table in each game.

Go and try both games one directly after the other. The parts that are lacking in Zen become very obvious.

If I buy a PSN Network card, e.g. for €20, can I still use it for a PS+ sub (let's say 3 months for €15), or is buying a PS+ card the only way for this?

I've played both back to back before - i've played both lots.
I said i preferred TPA's feel already, and yeah the difference is obvious, but it's not like Zen doesn't play a good game of pinball regardless, it's just different is all.

You could say TPA feels more realistic, but who likes what will come down to personal preference, not necessarily what feels more realistic anyway.

It's like Metroid Prime Pinball, which isn't really very realistic but in the context of the game itself, there's really nothing 'wrong' with it's physics.

Yeah, you can add funds to your PSN wallet and use those funds to buy a subscription.

It's not more realistic, the ball simply moves smoother and reflects better off surfaces in Arcade. It's just better.
