Are you advocating murdering idiot republicans? Is that what the shit I just read? Are you also suggesting speaking against and taking action against the government in a legal arena is treason? Isn't Hillary the one that called these people "patriots" when Bush was in office?

Holy fuck, man. Get a god damn grip. What's happening is shitty but calling for murdering people and hypocrisy has no fucking place here.

The trolling is certainly somewhat effective, but it's not very intelligent. It's run of the mill. Who want's to be just good, instead of being the best? When you wake up tomorrow ask yourself that, and you'll probably come to the same conclusion I have.

so is there any polls going on showing who is seen as responsible for this?
I need to know this as well. My hope for the future kind of hinges on this.

I need to know this as well. My hope for the future kind of hinges on this.

Reuters poll shows 46% blame GOP, 36% blame Obama (lol).

So far I have been unaffected by the US govt shutdown.

Then I tried to access the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day.

Get your shit together America

36% of the country, at any given time, is going to blame Obama for everything ranging from rainy days to indigestion so that statistic in and of itself is not all too surprising.

not far off. there's about 1 in 3 that are certifiably insane. usually republican.

Overall, 36% of Americans and 62% of Republicans believe that the Obama Administration is secretly trying to take everyone’s guns away; just 14% of Democrats believe the same. One in four Americans say that President Obama is secretly trying to figure out a way to stay in office beyond 2017 – including almost half of Republicans (44%). And 26% of Americans think that Muslims are covertly implementing Sharia Law in American court systems, while 55% don’t think so and another 19% aren’t sure. There’s a huge partisan breakdown on this one as well – 42% of Republicans fear Sharia Law making its way into America’s courts while just 12% of Democrats agree.

17% of voters said they think a group of world bankers are slowly eliminating paper currency to force most banking online – only to cut the power grid so regular citizens can’t access money and are forced into worldwide slavery. Nearly one in three Republicans (27%) believe the electronic currency theory while just 10% of Democrats agree.

This poll isn't about blame directly, but it gives a sense of the climate.

CBS poll: 72% of Americans think dispute over Obamacare shouldn't have led to shutdown.(via @NorahODonnell)

That made my morning. Nearly 1 in 5 people (voters) I see are comically stupid according to that poll.

WHAT THE FUCK

Please tell me this is a joke site, like The Onion.

PPP is one of the most accurate pollsters in the country, and was THE most accurate pollster for the 2012 election. This is not a joke site.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/polls/266615-study-finds-ppp-kos-the-most-accurate-pollsters-in-2012

I've actually run into the "Sharia Law!!!" thing more than once in person as well. These same people tend to also advocate Jesus in the classroom and ten commandments everywhere, not realize the same amendment (separation of church and state) that prevents them from doing so also prevents "sharia law" from working here.

17% of Americans will basically concur with any conspiracy theory you make up on the spot if it sounds sexy enough.

Sexy huh?

Onions are actually sentient organisms in cahoots with the government to turn all our books into cheese which they will then take back to their homeworld in the center of the Earth.

Their leader is Scarlet Johansson.

I believe it.

And you know what? Those dumb as dirt Americans have just as much voting power as you do. So as long as they're kept stupid and uneducated, this kind of shit will keep happening.

But that makes it pretty clear why the GOP loves to cut funding for education and other programs to help the poor make better lives for themselves. The Republican Party and rich ultraconservatives have created a superbly well-functioning system to keep poor Americans dumb, feed them lies, and tell them they have their best interests in mind as they slowly slit their throats.

And me complaining about it on an Internet message board will do jack all to fix it. The only way to counter misinformation is with real information, out on the streets, one-on-one with people.

republicans gotta show the world obama is evil somehow

They know the ACA is going into effect. They're desperate and stupid. Deadly combination.

I gotta disclose that I'm no American and have no idea what most of this means. What I said is based on what most, if not all, politicians like to do, dramatise.

You have to understand the level of hate we're talking control here. This is the extent that some will claw at power to keep it. I hope people remember this come next election. I'm sure many involved think the same but things will not go the way they think it will.

I'm curious as to who in the Tea Party will make it to the primaries for the next election, especially that young (for a politician) crazy fellow whose name escapes me. Cruz, I think?

What's truly frightening is the amount of wealthy, prosperous and educated people that I know who buy into it, my neighbors being prime example. He's a Penn educated entrepreneur who started a small biotech firm (whose biggest customer was the government) and she's a lawyer with a JD from Villanova. Oh, and they're both bigots.

Even then only so much can be done because some of these people want to stay ignorant. They don't want to even consider facts or truths because their fear of something different is so strong. For a lot of these people the core of their fear is that a black man if President of the United States. That very reality turns their world up side down and scares the hell out of them so they will latch on anything that makes the fear go away. That is why so many cling to people like Rush Limbaugh and his blatant bigotry and racism. Continue to believe that Obama stole both elections. They can't accept that the way they feel is a minority opinion.

I think for a large number of these people you have to wait for them to die out and try to reach their children and grand children. I think that's really what is happening now and why the republicans have been trying to restrict voting as much as possible.

What is amusing is watching the media reacting to the shutdown. CNN is desperately trying to make this a two pony show despite plethora of evidence that republicans wanted the shutdown and got it. They are saying its both parties fault cuz they cant sit down and discuss. This type of reporting is cancerous.

It really is horrible but I like to think as this goes on that gets harder and harder to do as it becomes more and more obvious in passing who's fault it is by words of the politicians themselves when they appear on TV.

moderate Republicans made it clear years ago that they'd rather ride the wave of anger and money coming out of the tea party than to try to talk to them in a reasonable manner. Republican political courage was McCain standing up to an old lady that Obama wasn't a muslim. Keep your head low and try not to get primaried, the mindset of true patriots.

Definitely may be true, but we do also have to still reach out to them, and not look down on them.

The uneducated Republican base rears its ugly head. I'm seriously considering getting a bumper sticker that says something like this: More Educated=More likely to vote Democrat.

Unfortunately that wouldn't be accurate. I never went to college and I can rock with the best of them. Critical thinking and self introspect are way more important measures of intelligence than being 'educated'. These republican leaders are "educated" yet rationale evades them. I get what you mean though.

He's done shit like that on multiple occasions. McCain is a good man.

i worry about the precedent obama is setting for future executive's by not negotiating with the opposition party. basically setting the path for a government that mimics a parliamentary system......

That comments section... is a quick and effective way to lose faith in humanity.
Makes you wish more sites would just go the Popular Science route, doesn't it?
why the fuck would i listen to AL QAEDA NEWS over my trusted bleached blondes at FOX?
Yeaaaah :/

War vet gonna war vet, can't really fault him for that being a war vet myself. I can see his point of view, but yeah, sometimes you gotta reign that shit in.

McCain's war hawkishness always seemed like his strangest feature to me. You'd think a man who was tortured and held as a prisoner of war for over five years would be the last one willing to jump into a war.

Or perhaps it makes him want to use war to "help" whom needs helping in his view. War doesn't have the same effect on everyone. For example, some vets suffering from PTSD will avoid anything and everything military or military themed, others are drawn to it.

I was originally in his camp of "oh shit we need to do something about that" until it became more clear that neither side in Syria is worth helping through war. And that's a shame since innocent people are being slaughtered.

Who knows though, I can't say why exactly he is the way he is.

Obviously Democrats shouldn't cave to piecemeal spending measures right now if they want to hold on, but I don't agree with Reid's, "What right do they have to pick and choose what part of governments can be funded?" ... well, since they are half of the US Congress, they certainly have the right to pick and propose piecemeal spending. They don't get to pass it without the Senate agreeing, but being duly elected federal legislators, they do have the right Harry.

They aren't half the US congress, though -- a majority of the house would vote for a clean bill but Boehner won't bring it up for vote.

It should be obvious why he did that, as far as I can remember Obama did the same thing.

Yes, we know why they both did what they did. To be fair though, Obama never screamed his original postition from the rooftops and made it a crusade, which is what McCain did when he changed positions.

The Republican Party is trying very hard to see if there's a tipping point to its irrelevancy.

As long as American media is too cowardly, spineless, greedy and selfish to do their part in informing a democracy, there will be no tipping point.

This act of holding government and nation hostage without a mote of reprecussion from the media simply reinforces their gall to act in as destructive, obfuscative and petulant a manner possible.

I mean, why not? They have nothing to lose and plenty to gain. What is it they want to gain? They don't know. But that's not going to stop them.
