Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Holy cow why do you hate dragons crown so much?

Just because it got repetitive after the first playthrough?

Multiplayer, Loot, and Chaos dungeon extend the replay plenty.

Its definitely on par with the last great beat em up Castle Crashers except much deeper in the customization department.

I recommend it to anyone

DC suffers from many issues beyond it's highly awful repetitive nature which -to be honest-is normal for this sort of games, first the story is shit they didn't even try, this is Vanillaware and story should be something even if small but no they dropped the ball here and made the entire thing less interesting, now the core gameplay , while there are tons of attacks and skills and powers fighting enemies is just not that fun, it's like playing shooter with badass shootguns versus bland cardboard Nazis, and it's very highly unbalanced since for all the class early skills make you overpowered as fuck (I guess because they want you to replay forever with hard mode or whatever but for first play-through this is a huge mistake), continue to the level design, I don't like Murumasa but those level were beautiful..now here? generic crap level that bored me to tears same with the music in this big turd, I mean what the hell just happened to Vanillaware? it's like they focused too much on the fighting system and forget absolutely everything else.

it's just sad that Vanillaware who made fantastic games like Grim Grimoire and the amazing Odin Sphere now made awful games like Muramasa and Dragon's Crown, the studio clearly have problems and need to learn from fans feedback or get a new director on board.

but funny enough, it's one of the Vita games I have that my coworker didn't want to "try for few days" after seeing it in the office.

I see people say they like 6 & 12 all the time. I rank Tactics because I like it so much.

Physical loads faster, is less likely to be unavailable and irretrievable in the future, is more conducive to managing memory card space, and has the potential to increase it's value over time. There's also a psychologically endearing sentiment found in being able touch and see the things you love, like being in a real relationship rather than a long distance one. Digital makes for more convenient access, but can perform noticeably slower depending on the game, and ends up being less convenient when it comes time to make tough decisions in order to concede space for new purchases, especially since cloud saving is tied to an additional expense of $50 a year.

I don't sell any Vita games I own on physical media.

You can't accidentally spill juice on your digital library :)

There are only 2 games where I've noticed serious loading time waiting, and that has been Killzone and Gravity Rush. Other games obv have load times but none that were noticeably bad.

I understand some people like to be able to hold something they own in their hand, and I can totally dig that. But I'm a minimalist at heart so digital is perfect for me.

Also, going digital during PSP gave me the inherent bonus of having my entire back catalog available to my Vita.

I prefer physical games, leaving my precious memory card for psn games. I don't mind "luggin them around" as my carrying case holds 23 games. Plus, plenty of room for stand alone card carriers for when I fill the main case. I have 16 physical games, and that number will only rise and rise.

.

well You can forget the password or your email password, you account might get FIFA'd, Microsoft ban your account and all that expensive games go bye bye (does Sony allow you to acces you games if you get banned?) server got shutdown (see GFWL) and other problems with DD.

also you can resell retail and get games way cheaper most of the time (especially in Vita case).

Woot...finally unlocked Pir-hana Speed in WIpEout 2048. And Elite pass in Zone for the Sol track....zone 60(!). Damn...I only managed zone 45. Long way more to go!

I kept flying out of the track in Sol for first hour at it.

How's the Online campaign? Has anyone tried it?

Oh...there's yet another "Beat Zico" trophy in this! Will attempt to do it after i complete season 2050!

Are the load times for the digital version of P4G worse than the physical version? If so o might just buy the physical version. Oh and I FINALLY got a physical copy of DOA5 plus. Freaking thing was a bitch to find at gamestop but I got it brand new from Target.
I actually don't remember seeing any loading screens in P4G.

Still all things that I am personally willing to trade for the convenience. As a hypothetical if Sony decide to go a different direction and close PSN down there is no way our digital libraries would go away. That would utterly destroy their reputation. Just like how a lot (if not all) GFWL games are getting patched to be playable without the client. Bioshock 2 just got patched today as a matter of fact.

And I will never get account banned because I don't do dodgy things, or buy EA games.

I'm very minimalist too. I've moved multiple times a year for most of my life, and these days I never take more than 2 bags, so I try to keep my material possessions at a minimum. Which is why I like handhelds and laptops. I can fit my entire collection of Vita SD cards into two Hori 24 cases that are as thick as 4 Vita game cases stacked together, and about 2 inches shorter. Just the Vita in it's FEB case + the Hori cases and a couple accessories would fit in a tiny gym satchel. All the game cases would fit in a small shoebox if I was intent on keeping them. I lost several hundred games and a lot of systems in a fire in 2007, so I know a thing or two about spilling juice. I also dropped Yoshi's Island into a big gulp in 2001, and managed to save it with a hair dryer -_- Those are relatively rare and unlikely circumstances... it's not certain that accidents will happen, but it is almost certain that PSN will eventually be shut off, licenses revoked or availability of certain titles removed. In either event, it's an easier pill to swallow to take responsibility for the consequences of your own actions than the actions of someone else screwing you over.

Conversely, I've lost the contents of my laptop harddrive many times, with no recourse... right now PSN acts as a cloud, but in the event that it's ever gone, there is little chance of retrieval unless I have an external drive, which is also still susceptible to both physical and digital damage, as well as loss. A private cloud service has the same uncertainty as a service like PSN, and the same ongoing financial responsibility as PS+.

Another point I feel is worth making, is that even though I'm a collector and don't sell games (w/ Vita being my only object of attention these days) there have been times in my life where walking into a pawn shop with a stack of games was a saving grace to get me through the month.

Your bottom point is a very good one. Lots of games you can't get on Vita, even if you own them digitally on PSP, though, due to the unforeseen stupidity of publishers and the uncertainty of digital availability.

But you can't resell digital or lend it to someone else.

Very true. But it's all subjective anyway... that said, what you say aren't problems for me (99% of the time). :P

I did mention the resale point with the quip about Toto hating Dragon's Crown... sometimes it's useful. But usually, I end up selling the physical copy when I get a digital copy and that's about it.

I've found, as I sell games in my physical collection, that unless something is extremely rare, you're not going to get that much back in the resale game. More than trading to GS, most likely, but still...

For example, I found a new copy of Rayman Origins Vita on Clearance -- and I could barely get what I paid for it... luckily, it was more about hooking someone up with an awesome game at a low price than flipping for profit.

Wait a minute...is there no REVERSE track mode in WipEout 2048?!?

Nope, unfortunately not. Shame, as the tracks kind of seem to be made for it.

2048 was almost certainly rushed for launch, as a lot of the promised features (livery editor, AG Museum) didn't make it before Studio Liverpool got shuttered. It's a shame; the game is wonderful otherwise.

I actually don't remember seeing any loading screens in P4G.

I occasionally hit one in dungeons, I think... but for the most part, the game is pretty much fluid and you never see much "loading" at all.

Have you never played a game in this genre before? Castle Crashers? Double Dragon? Guardian Heroes? The Capcom D&D games? Streets of Rage? Final Fight? The list goes on and on.

Dragon's Crown, while it's light on story, probably has a more detailed story than 90% of the games in the genre. And unlike most of those games, Dragon's Crown gives you the ability to level up and find new gear, adding more replay value and depth beyond something like the classics it builds upon.

I've spent over 75 hours with this game. My character has never been "overpowered". The only time I even felt close to that was when my Amazon hit the 20s or so towards the end of normal and I had gotten used to how to exploit her skills. Combined with my level 90+ NPCs, yeah, the normal bosses died in the blink of an eye. You can't even UNLOCK the powerful skills for each class until around level 15 or so.

You might not like the game, but for what the game aimed to be, it's absolutely positively fan-fucking-tastic.

Progressing through wipeout is extremely satisfying, you know you are getting better and better. I hadn't played a wipeout game since wip3out, and this game still has me coming back to it, despite getting it at Vita's launch. The online is great, when you can find a room that doesn't do battle everytime for boosting purposes.

I played the fuck out of WipEout HD and Fury. I'll double dip and buy it for the Vita as well, since those were in another account.

Sony just renewed the trademark for Psynogsis....hopefully it's a start. IIRC, there was some tweet from ex-Studio Liverpool staff about "we are still alive" or something. C'mon, gimme WipEout PS4!

Now is a good time to play again. WipEout 2048 is free on PS+. Sooooo damn good! Rekindled my love for WipEout all over again.

edit: oops...misread that you haven't played since Wip3out. LOL

LOL yea, bought it when I got my ps2 when I heard they made it almost for the system, despite being a ps1 game. Looked so great back then. On 2048, I need to elite pass the a+ challenges, and then complete the online, but I won't stop playing. No other racing game has that kind of adrenaline, and them zone challenges!!!
Beans, how's your Sibyl doing? :)
She's coming along, but I'm drawing closer to the coveted 99. Work, the lady, GTA:o Andy music has been keeping me from it somewhat, but I'm currently in the middle of a loc chain. Soon!

If you need a hand, holler, and I'll load up Morrigan. :)

Damnit, I suddenly have the urge to buy and replay Legend of Dragoon. Problem is that I'm already playing P4G and will get Pokemon in less than 2 weeks. Too many RPGs!!

If you're not too far down the VLR hole, you might want to consider holding off on finishing the game and playing 999 instead. Otherwise you'll get most of the core plot points of 999 spoiled, and have a significantly lessened experience.

I already clared a few story routes. Some things got spoiled but it's okay. I'll still play 999 with he ame enjoyment :).

Most definitely! Those LoC floors are getting addictive.

If you've been doing them solo or whatever, you might have better gear than me -- I'll get my ass handed to me, no doubt.

What I really need is one of those amnesia potions -- now that she's 99, I want to take all the points out of the money is power and put them into something else.

That problem will always exist. I've started Legend of Dragoon many times, but never finished it. On my fourth time, about 15 hours in now, this being my longest attempt. Last time I played it was about 1-2 months ago :/. Thankfully the game is pretty linear, else I would be lost everytime I started it back up.

Wish I could give you one ;( I've got 3, but only plan to need one. Figured you can upload your game to the severs right before the respect, to try things out, and just do things over and over till perfection is found.

Those blessings do give some sick loot, too. As much as I love getting it all, I'm waiting to do a final equipping till I'm 99....I'm lazy :D

Gross.

I'm now 1/4 of the way through wizard run. Platinum might be mine before I turn in for the night. I ended up using a respec potion on the elf... and maybe on the amazon... so I ended up with 0 left to go back and fix my 99 sorceress.

So once games go up on the free list and you decide to download it, you essentially get to play that game for as long as you have a subscription to PS+ and it will show up on your home screen? What happens if I don't have enough room on my memory card at the time to download the game? Can I come back at a later date when the game is no longer on the free list to download and play it then?
Will games that were offered free before ever go back up on the free list?

Thanks for the answers. I think I'll go pick up a subscription soon.

Sorry about the late reply man. To add a game permanently it just has to be on your download list. So you would start the download and then cancel it and it'll be on your download list. You're then able to download it whenever as long as you're subscribed. As for whether or not games that were free before you subscribed ever go back up? No idea.

I've said this before: Sony are *really* bad at communicating how the nuts and bolts of ps+ works... We see people asking the same questions over and over again.

I get the feeling that if people knew how this service worked, they'd sell more subscriptions.

Man dragons crown is starting to open up and make sense to me. Love it.

Paying it on ps3 felt weird, but the short nature of its levels makes it suited for vita.

Yeah ran to about level 30 the first time with friends. Came back around this not long ago and having a blast all over again.

I finished the game before that was such a long time ago (2003?). It wasn't legit finished. I was at the final dungeon having a hard time but still managing it. A "friend" dropped by and did me a "favor" by putting Gameshark codes then overwriting my save without telling me. :|

I don't think this is true.

And there are a LOT of questions that get asked a lot in this thread.

From my experience, if he were a true friend, he would've done you that favor long before you wasted all that time. :P

Legend of Dragoon was hyped and hyped and hyped to me by a longtime friend who shared my love of JRPGs.
He let me borrow the game whlie I was on a co-op assignment for a semester of college -- without homework and stuff, I had a lot of time to play it... and yet, I feel like it was a waste of my time.
I completed the game, simply because my buddy had lent it to me and I felt an obligation there... but I thought it was a terrible attempt at trying to capture what made JRPGs good.
I will never understand why people seem to love that game so much.

This. Literally spent like 6 hours in one go on the demo... Came on GAF and was surprised to find no one seemed excited for GE2 :(

I'd pick up the Japanese version when it comes out in nov, but don't want to miss out on the story....

I'm excited for GE2!

Picking up the JP version, too!

Just 6 hours?! I already have 50 hours in the first demo alone! And there's a second one coming that includes the first three chapters of the game!

Awakening Tier 3 Blood Arts took so much time with just Rank 3 missions. :/

Wait are you sarcastic or you don't know Toto ? :)

He is not sarcastic, he has already explained why he doesn't like the game.

I found somewhat funny how him (cuz u r a boy, rite?
I kid, i kid
) how for him games are amazing or awful. I don't remember seeing him saying some game is... just ok.
__

How bad is Airmail? I bought P4G from shop4.es.com and I want to play it noooow! But they ship from UK and use that company...
