Has there been any gaffers who came back from a permban?

About 18 months ago Kimosabae got a slap on the wrist ban, then asked me via 8wayrun.com to request that he be perma'd. I asked Teknopathetic and he complied. Today, Kimosabae sent me a message today asking me will I ask that he be unperma'd since he was the one who requested that he be perma'd in the first place.

Since this topic has mods all over the place maybe one of them will allow you back into the kingdom of the living, 'bae.

there are two year bans
Which I find beyond ridiculous. I can see perm "get your ass out and never come back" but a year or two is way overkill if you still want the people around as part of the community and are simply trying to punish them.

Also I seen Dragona's name in this thread. It's rare of me to dislike someone ever, but let's just say that I was not a fan. Way too touchy and unfair. Grandpa Simpson restaurant .gif every time I saw her scowled up avatar in a thread.

Anything longer than 3 months is almost exclusively requested ban territory.

Eh, I could see some of the reasoning for it. With some of the younger posters that could show up here, maybe they just need a couple years of growth to actually participate with discussions here.

Ah ok. That makes sense then. People without the willpower to stay away but have things to do with their lives and don't want to lose their accounts all together.

Sometimes I forget how long I've been here. I'll see posters I consider to be long held staples of the community and then check their profile and see I've actually been here longer.

Never been banned either! I sometimes wonder what life would be like to be banned from NeoGaf, but I quickly stray from such dark thoughts.

Same.

How long does junior status last (not that I'm going to post inflammatory posts or anything, just curious)

300 posts + 3(?) months from registration. The delay time you had in the registration queue counts for the time component.

It's not strict either, obviously someone who gets banned at 301 posts isn't going to skate while someone at 299 gets nuked.

That surprises me. From what I tracked, even the most troublesome posters who received non perma-bans were only gone for 3 months at a time. Most notably of course Otrebornightmarecoat was banned for 3 months, unbanned for roughly 24 hours, then banned again for another 3 months, unbanned for a day or two and then finally permabanned.

So whatever the line is between a 3 month ban and a perma ban must be extremely thin. 6 month, 1 year, and 2 year bans must be challenging to achieve without being outright perma'd. I have no idea what constitutes a ban like that but I'm not curious enough to attempt to find out

Welp, if I weren't so slow writing my post, I would have had my answer. Makes sense now

Sweet, third of the way there. I thought it was strictly time based and took 6 months or something

I've been banned thrice.

The first was a strange one. I was registered as firesprite1984, asked to have my name changed by the wrong mod, then found the name grayed out. Perm for that name methinks. I then had to sign up again using the same email and proper Monkey name. The second was for posting a GIF after a no GIF rule had been instituted and not realizing for half a page. The third for making a lousy joke in a someone died thread. I was mainly mocking the people making puns about the dead... but it got lost in translation.

The last came with the message "Stop being a joke poster please."

Since then no bans for me. I still make jokes, but they tend to be much safer than hanging my buddies on meathooks, or over description of sex acts. And I'm almost certain I'm on the shortlist for mod.

I can practically feel it in my tail.

Speaking of, for some reason I take notice that nowadays Dennis' way of postings is... changed. It seems like he is, I dunno, trying too hard to be funny? I never noticed that kind of behavior from him before. Maybe being banned has something to do with it.

It's so weird/strange to see a poster suddenly changes like that.

Not necessarily because the "perceived sexist statement" though: Evilore once stated that the reason why Dragona was unmodded was because he found out that she actually let someone else use her account and that someone else used her mod power to ban various people.

He also said most of those bans weren't necessarily deserved, at least not as perms, though. I think Dragona was an admin (?) or at least an old enough member/mod that the other mods didn't want to go in and unban people she was banning. I might be misremembering Evilore's explanation though.

I was banned for like a day... or maybe it was a week.

That first was a bad one. I re-signed and waited a couple of months (that firesprite account was approved in around a week) the second ban was for a week, and then the last was for a month.

I've been trying to be one of the good ones since.

Been banned twice. First time was for personally insulting someone else (they deserved an argument, not an insult) and the second time was for being sardonic about declining discussion quality.

I think I should feel bad about the second one, but a day after I was banned, poll threads got banned on the board because there were way too many. It made me laugh, if nothing else.

I'd say he's just doling out his shtick more often than usual due to the impending launch of the PS4/XB1 and all the discussion this has generated vis-a-vis how they compare to higher-end PCs.

I've been banned like five times, but hey, I was only called "useless" in the ban comments once!

As for PD's name, I just assumed he asked for it since at the time it changed, nobody commented on it and the meaning isn't obvious at all :lol

A little off topic, I love the metagame of permabans. The whole idea behind it interests so many people who want to be part of that thread where they witness the rise and fall of permabanned members. Legendary threads are always fun to watch tumble down, and its what makes GAF so much more interesting than reading a book; so expressive, it burn calories.

My last ban was for a couple weeks because I said a really muscular looking female looked like a male

I understand what I said could definitely be viewed as insensitive and I apologize for that, but would like a warning instead of the ban out of no where

This has been an interesting read. I did not realize that being re-juniored was permanent. I feel kind of shitty now, as I thought that it too was temporary.

(upon typing this post on my phone, I thought I had been banned because it would not let me reply... my dumbass forgot that I changed my email address earlier today and forgot to verify it)

Goddamn it. Someone please hold me, imo.

Yeah, Dennis sucks now. All he posts is that stupid GIF of the wall breaking and something peeking out of it. Dude lost his touch.

Look up the user "N-Bomb"... he just got banned, idk if it's perm though. Can a mod comment on whether he's perm'd or not? I like that little guy.

There's a couple stories in this thread. You could also pop over to the Archives there's some threads over there clearly got people axed.

Plus there's 'lores banishment of Dyack so you could read that and not do those things Dyack did :D

Also I remember a guy got banned because he used Adblocker and Evilore wanted him to pay $50 to be unbanned, right? LOL

Someone bring Wollan back. He has contributed too much to stay banned.

IIRC his tag read, "The Reason He Will Never Be Banned", linking to a thread or something to that effect. Then some mod snatched his soul from GAF never to return it.
