If a girl has a little white/silver ring on her left ring finger, does that mean she's waiting until marriage? Is that a purity ring?

It could be but that's not a common place for one. Purity rings are usually white/silver, they can be plain and they also commonly have an inscription on them like 'Love Waits' 'Purity' 'True Loves Waits'. They're usually placed on the finger next to the little finger.

It's more than likely just a ring for aesthetics. Next time you see a girl with one ask her, it could be that is how a local church/group presents abstinence/purity rings.

How do I see the posters / how many posts each made in a thread?

You click on the number of replies for example go to Gaming or Offtopic and click on the number of replies for thread on the right hand side.

UEMOHy8.png

Alternatively put the thread number at the end of this URL.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/misc.php?do=whoposted&t=

To find a thread number just go to the first page, or any page, of the thread in question, like this thread.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=623201
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=623201&page=7

623201 is the thread number.

Please don't click the links unless you know of the possible risks. I just want to mention this so that no one clicks them by mistake and get infected. To see the links, quote this post.

Ok, so I want to ask here in case anyone knows about this. I was over at a friend and was gonna help him install a game. Something went wrong and I got an error message that I didn't know what to do about. So I searched for the error message and went to the following site: (quote this post to see the link. I hid it under the quote so that noone clicks it by mistake without having read my whole post and understand the possible risks)

So when I went there, I got a message in the browser saying something along the lines of "The file of this type can hurt your computer. Do you still want to keep the file blank.htm?" followed with a choice to either keep it or throw it away. So while I threw it away, I am really afraid that I infected his computer with something now. Maybe there are other malware being sent on you when entering the page as well, that didn't get noticed, or that blank.htm wasn't deleted fully.
I tried to search for this blank.htm, and while I didn't really understand all of what they were talking about in my search results, it sounded scary (to me at least). I'm just very scared of exposing someone else to malware. :/
So my brother and I both went to that site but we never got any message from it, however I'm not sure if that might be because we are using more and different security programs than my friend.

Also, when I entered the following article, the computer of my friend would freeze for a short time, being unable to even move the mouse: (I have hidden this site under quote as well, for the same reason as the above)

Again, I'm afraid if entering this article might have been bad, or even having been the root for why he gets the message when entering the first link.

So please don't click the links unless you are aware of the possible risks. I wanted to ask anyone if they know anything about all this. I have done a search with an anti-virus program so far and I'm gonna install some more to do more searches. However, while the risk may be low that no program snaps up if there is indeed any malware, I might end up formatting his computer. I'd like to refrain from doing so, but the risk of having infected someone else's computer and leaving it there isn't a risk I want to take.

Sorry if this post was written poorly.

Edit: Hmm, my tags didn't quite work the way I thought they would...

Edit 2: There we go!

*Lots of stuff*

Both links worked fine for me on Chrome with no warnings or popup messages. Its possible it was just a hiccup both times. The second link had a lot of adverts so it may have been one of those loading which slowed your friends computer.

I don't think there is any cause for alarm, just run a anti-virus scan, and possibly Spybot and Malwarebytes (Both free) just to be sure. If there is malware those should pick it up.

Either way, its best to just have you/them keep an eye on it for a bit and see if you get search engine re-directs or weird urls and popups.

Thank you a lot for testing them out. I actually entered the links multiple times on his computer (probably was not a good idea...) and got the messages from the first link every time. Regarding the second link, that probably is the case.

Ah, ok. That's reassuring to hear. And, thanks for the tips. I'm gonna try out Malwarebytes next.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to borrow his computer for that long to notice that much though. But he might notice if something weird is going on. I haven't noticed anything weird so far, aside from what I have mentioned.
What i'm most afraid of, though, is that he's got some keylogger and he's gonna lose accounts.

Also, I'm not sure, but maybe the reason he gets the blank.htm message on the first page has something to do with some previous malware? No clue why it would pop up on that page out of everything though...

Thanks a lot for the help!

Is there a community/OT thread for local co-op games?

I'm always on the look out for what's new in couch coop gaming and it's usually a pain.

So here's my question..

As light may bend (alter direction) by gravitational force, then how can we know where distant stars are located? The light from a star can't possibly have traveled in a straight line, as it must have been affected by multiple forces on its way ??

(sorry if I didn't make myself clear)

This explains it quite well:
http://science.howstuffworks.com/question224.htm

As for gravity effecting light. Stars produce so much light and the gravity of things around effect it so little that it probably has a negligible effect, remember space is really very very very empty. Plus distance is only measured approximately, pretty much everything in the universe is moving further away from each other very quickly. By the time we had worked out how far a star is away it could be thousands of KM or further away.

Last night my internet connection kept dropping and it never normally does that. I am on a fibre connection and we had strong wind with stronger gusts. Would that have caused it?

Oh and I'm very glad to see this thread has returned. I really missed it when it was gone.

Is imdb.com down for anyone else? I haven't been able to access the site for a few days now. Its just says "Oops! Google Chrome could not find www.imdb.com". I tried with Firefox and it said basically the same thing.

What was the deal with using a brush to apply mustard to your hotdog in old movies and cartoons? When did that go out of style?

Mustard is pretty thick so before we had squeezable plastic bottles there was probably no other way to get it out. IDK, I'm just guessing.

Anyone know of good massage oils? Having a romantic dinner with my girlfriend in a week and wanna try something new. Preferably something not expensive.

Quick question, I just wanna make sure I'm not gonna make my colleagues mad.

The bold part in the following sentence isn't correct, right ?

"... is the only viable solution for enabling lasting peace... "

It should be "to enable", right ?

Here's my question: I still run xp on one computer, my 1 TB drive is full and I want to add an addition 2 TB internal drive. Does the drive need to be formatted or have an OS installed? It will be used just for storage and backup.

Also what's the largest drive I can use for storage while xp is on the main hard drive, it's 2TB correct?

You generally format the drive after you have it plugged in. Though in some cases (like external drives) the drive is already formatted. Just plug it in. Format it while assigning it a drive letter. Your drive is now ready to be used for storage.

Do I format it from the "my computer" hard drive tab or the xp cd?

You can do it while you are logged into windows. You can format a drive if it already appears in the my computer tab, but likely you will have to go to Disk Management. I haven't used XP in awhile. Try and right clicking on the my computer Icon and see if one of the options is "Manage". From there click Disk Management.

Alternatively you can follow these directions.

Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
In the console tree, click Disk Management.

From there you can right click the drive you inserted, it should be one of the drives that shows up in Disk Management, and click format.

How come some countries that use the euro put the currency symbol after the amount of money and others put it before the amount of money?

It depends on the country/locale. Such as in France they put the Euro sign after the number to keep it in-line with the metric system where the unit of measurement is put after the number, ie 27cm, 11.5m, 32km. So its 2,70€.

In the UK we write it 'I have £25.' but we don't say it in that order, we say 'I have 25 pounds/quid', so in a way its odd to have the £ first.

It's much like Americans do the date Month/Day/Year in shorthand, which is backwards to how most of the world do it, from smallest to largest measurement of time Day/Month/Year. This is thought to be because the date is often written like 'October 24th, 2007' so when shortened they kept it 10/24/2007.

Its all one of the quirks of living in a diverse multicultural planet =P

YouTube question:

I'm a Mac user and Safari is my browser of choice.

Is there a way to get YouTube to just default to 720p videos when 720p is an available quality setting?

Sometimes I do marathon party sessions and play lots of music videos but it's a pain in the ass to keep on having to select 720p with EVERY video I play.

I'm signed in and everything too.

This is also the reason why I switched to McTube on iOS as YouTube posts awful quality videos when streaming over cellular/mobile network whereas with McTube you can set a default quality setting over wifi or cellular/mobile.

I want to stream/transcode from my Mac to My PS3. (Tversity)

What are you guys using? With the least-headachey-seup?

I remember back in 2009/2010 trying to stream content from my MacBook at the time to my PS3 using PS3 Media Server. I followed every instruction to the letter and couldn't get the fucking thing to work once.

The least headachey way is to invest in an Apple TV, upgrade your Mac to OS X Mavericks and stream from Mac to Apple TV - forgetting the PS3 altogether.

There has to be a way to do this. But yeah, all i see on the ps3mediaserver forums seem to be a bunch of shit I don't want to do, only to not have it work, as it looks like a lot of people are doing. Its a shame if the only alternative is hundereds of dollars to stream content from a apple to another device.

I WILL NEVER FORGET ABOUT MY PS3! Its pretty much the entertainment hub. Tversity on windows is pretty turnkey. I was hoping the same could be done in osx.

Are there any noticeable differences between a 1368x768 screen and a 1920x1080 screen on a 15'' laptop?
Yes, it makes a tremendous difference. With a low resolution screen you will have less space for applications on screen at the same time and you will spend more time scrolling when browsing the internet. Unfortunately 768 is still a very common vertical resolution for laptops.
