Is it possible to infect a pc/laptop with a usb/hdd by just plugging it in? I have this external usb hdd which I used for my studies years ago, and im pretty sure my institutes library had a virus going around and I have not used it since on my personal laptop. I wanna start using it but dont wanna risk infecting my laptop.

It's not impossible, depends on the exact configuration. If you have an up-to-date AV program and disabled autostart for external drives, the risk should be pretty slim if it scans removable devices on connect. If you want to be absolutely sure, boot a Linux live CD and do a scan from there.

Why won't my laptop read my SD Card I use in my 3DS? It works fine in my 3DS, but my laptop doesn't want to read it.

All my other SD Cards read fine.

I buy a lot of salmon and flounder filets that come in individual vacuum-sealed plastic pouches, and on the pouch it says, "Must remove from packaging before thawing." Why? What difference would it make?

The plastic might contain the hormone disruptive compound Bisphenol A. Look for a small triangle with a 7 in it. It's released by heat and friction.

There's no triangle, this is soft plastic and not recycle-able. You may have a point, I just wonder how the plastic can be safe if the food is frozen, but not when thawed. I don't heat the package, just let it set in some water to thaw. It's easiest just to thaw it in the package rather than dirty a plate when I don't need to, but I guess I should change my ways just to be sure.

I use the same method for thawing fish, but I'll take a look at the plastic the next time I prepare some. It's been in the news quite a lot, but it's mostly a concern for young children.

I need a new wireless router with decent signal range and port forwarding that actually works. I currently have a D-Link DIR-655, and it has good range but port forwarding, DMZ, and other things do not work at all.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I've been using dropbox for awhile to showcase my artwork and I usually right click an image in the dropbox public folder to get my "copy public link".
As of now, i can't get the public link active for whatever reason. When I right click on an image to get a public link, it doesn't even appear.
Am I doing something wrong here?

Edit: Never mind I figured it out,...It wasn't turned on..=_=

I had a melanoma cut out on my face a bit over a month ago. Probably closer to two months now.

Anywho, I've been using scar gel to lighten the appearance of the scar. Since it's coming up to summer here in Australia and things are getting pretty damn hot / likelihood of me getting burnt increases, I'm also going to be using a SPF 30+ sunscreen on it too.

My question is. What should I put on first? My scar gel or my sunscreen? Or perhaps it would be beneficial to only use the scar gel of a night time?

Assuming the scar gel delivers a chemical to/through the skin, that should be put on first. Sunscreen is a barrier so should go over the top anyway.

how do I change the reply, retweet, favorite, and more buttons on twitter? Mine changed to grey and I dunno how to change it back.

I just applied for an Amazon credit card. This would be my first and I have no credit. I have a very low income and I live with my parents. It says it needs further review; it wasn't accepted immediately. Is this basically a guarantee that I won't get it?

I'm normally a Chrome user, but I decided to try out Safari with Mavericks and IOS7 since apparently it uses way less memory. It works pretty well, but one thing really annoys me. Chrome remembers your zoom settings per website. Safari does not.

Safari > Prefefrences > Advanced > "Do not use font sizes smaller than:" is a decent compromise, but it doesn't satisfy me all the way. I have it set to 14 points now, which is too small, and the next step up is 18, which is too big. Usually just one Cmd + works for me on each site, and this isn't the same.

SO basically is there anything out there that makes Safari remember zoom settings per website?

So... Gargamel hated the Smurfs, right. He wanted to either eat them, or sometimes he wanted them as an ingredient for making gold. So he tried to find the village and get them, over and over.

But he created Smurfette. If he could MAKE Smurfs, why didn't he just do that?

It's porn know but has anyone here actually had sex with a japanese woman? Do they make as mush noise in real life?

Does that look like Tom & Jerry?

My niece's birthday is in a couple of days and I'm making her a Tom & Jerry card. My plan is to draw a kind of forest in the background and have Tom hand a sad Jerry a flower or something.

I have the "inking" plus colours all in layers in photoshop, so I can edit rather quickly.

I mean, you can tell it isn't by the original artist or whatever, but that is very easily recognizable as Tom and Jerry. You should be good, kids aren't picky like that.
Haha yeah, you're right. Kids aren't too picky with stuff like this... but I think I'll edit Tom's face a little anyway (angle it's currently at doesn't look right either). Thanks for reply!

Recently I bought a UN46F8000 Samsung HDTV from www.bigboxsuperstore.com. But when I setup the TV the only options I had for country were Ecuador, Panama, and Other. Other entailed other Latin countries. I look at the box, and nothing explicitly indicated it was not a US HDTV, and the website did not indicate that either. But then I saw that the model number added an "AH" to the end of it. I googled it and it mostly showed up only on the Samsung Latin support website.

So will I run into any problems using the TV? Or should I contact the seller and try to swap it out for the US one?

Edit: Okay, so my picture quality from my cable is terrible. Everything looks really blurry if it is real, and then cartoons lines will jiggle around in addition to being blurry. I am guessing this has something to do with me not being in Ecuador, right? Is there a fix besides moving to Panama/returning the TV? Or would I just be stuck with watching The Ring survivors and every cartoon as if it is Dr. Katz? The quality of streaming stuff from apps on the TV like Netflix works fine, as do my video game consoles.

What's it called when you mix Japanese sake and Jack Daniels? Or any kind of whiskey, I suppose.

Cause that's what I've been drinking and I feel kind of drunk now.

Anybody else still rocking echofon for Firefox and if so, is it messed up for you right now? Its not wrapping the text of the tweets and is instead posting it as on long line and I can only see about 1/3rd of the message.

It broke for me a long time ago =[ I couldn't find an addon that did what Echofon did. I ended up using this on my Windows PC. http://www.metrotwit.com/

Hey guys,

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of the YT videos or the thread that has the origin of the GIF " This is NEOGAF" ?

Thanks!

EDIT: nvm found it

I think so. 300 Posts and 3 Months to go from Junior Member to Member.

how do cats and dogs (and other pets too, probably) know to come when you call their name?

This is based on personal experience and absolutely no scientific source:
It's a learning process through repetition. Cannot speak for kittens but I assume it works the same as it does for puppies. You repeat their name when you want them to come to you and eventually they pick up on it. The key to this (as with teaching a dog to do anything) is consistency. It's the same(?) as teaching a dog to sit or stay, a name is another command.

To add to what Tomat said, a dog doesn't necessarily perceive their name as an identity badge, but more as an attention getter. So when I say, "Bear, want a treat?" or "Bear, go outside?" he hears it as, "Hey! Want a treat? or "Hey! Go outside?" You say their name, and they know that the following statement is directed at them.

I have blocked a certain range of IP addresses (to speed up youtube) on both my router and through the windows firewall on my computer. However, Wireshark shows that the IP addresses are still coming through. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

What's a good way to make a portfolio website if I don't want to buy a domain/spend any money? I know many lots about computer, but am poor. And it's not for a job, just to apply for a class.

My portfolio will be a mix of images and audios (that i'll embed through soundcloud). Extra points if the service lets me mess with code guts.

You could host the site yourself on your personal computer and set it up with a dynamic DNS from DynDNS (1 month free trial) or NoIP.
Thanks. I think hosting the site myself would be a bit too demanding, but I'm looking into your links. Learnin bout internets

4:31 - what the hell is that supposed to be?
Lol, that's definitely an armpit. And what did you think it looked like, Rorschach?

Isn't there a Sci-Fi movie called "The Giever" or something like that, about a guy from space with a weird suit....

I think dogs understand it a bit more than as an attention getter. Think about if u own multiple dogs. All other commands are the same except for the "attention getter". They're too smart to not piece it together that it's their label IMO if the dog grew up with other dogs.
