No, you get the starter you're strong against.

Pick Chespin, get Froakie. Best of both worlds.
Shit. :( That doesn't work out how I planned, then...

Also, I heard awhile back that if you don't choose Charmander as your Kanto starter, an NPC will offer to sell you Charizardite X or Charizardite Y (depending on your version), presumably so you don't miss out on it if you didn't choose Charmander because it's a version exclusive item. Is that true? If so, that means that it'd be a good idea to NOT get Charmander so that you can get an extra Mega Stone in addition to the one you get with Bulbasaur or Squirtle.

I still can't decide if I want to go all Fire-type with Fennekin, Charmander, and Torchic (my favorites), or if I want to pick one of each type (I'd go with Chespin, Squirtle, and Torchic).

You can buy all the Kanto starters' megastones at a store in the game.

I know this has been something for a long time, but what is the reasoning for all your Pokemon being at Level 50 in the Battle Tower, Tournament, etc.? Why not stay at Level 100?

So Kiloude City = post game :D

EDIT:

Oh, cool! Do we know which Pokémon and items are banned yet? Are Mega Stones and Mega Evolutions allowed?

I believe you can buy all the kanto starter megastones regardless of which you pick. Only your version's Charizardite obviously.

Heh, there was never any doubt why Charizard is the sole starter to get TWO Mega forms. The popularity of that line is matched (or exceeded) only by Mewtwo and Pikachu. I feel bad for the fire starters from Chimchar onward. Not a chance in hell of reaching Torchic's levels, let alone the other two.

Is that confirmed? But... how is it possible being Bulbasaur the absolute best?? O_O :)

No shit. Though I did not expect Cyndaquil to be so high. Then again, I lurve all fire type starters (save for Tepig... sorry Tepig), so it matters not to me.

Tepig was just so random and out of place to be honest. USA-themed game and we got a porky starter haha.

Junichi Masuda had an interview where he revealed some of the reasons why some pokemon get Mega forms and others don't. One of the reasons he mentioned was popularity, and it's not doubt that Charizard is the most popular Kanto starter.

Yes I've read that. But him being the most popular doesn't mean the others can't have their own Y version. I mean, Venosaur was a pretty versatile Pokémon and his mega-evolution is clearly focused on its defensive set.
Maybe in future generations there will be extra mega evolutions until we get an X and an Y version of every line of Pokémon.
