Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Jeez, take 24 hours off from this thread and famousmortimer comes in and drops bombs. Infamous Vita sounds like an awesome idea, can't wait to see what they come up with!

While Infamous is nice i really really hope that Sony is working on Gran Turismo for Vita as that would have much bigger impact.

edit: Zavvi has nice deal on DoA5 and NGS2 as they can be bought at 2 for 25 pounds

And few other Vita titles

Just got my shipping notice from Yes-Asia for my 64GB card. Hopefully they're trustworthy. As soon as it arrives, I'm going on a buying spree of the few remaining Vita games I don't own, plus a couple of PSM games.

Also, can't wait for inFamous Vita. Assuming it's out next fall, I wonder when we'd get a reveal. E3?

Festival of Blood would make no sense. It relies heavily on Infamous 2's assets, even gives you access to half its playable area. Porting the engine and world for such a short game would be a waste.

I was being snarky.
God only knows what we're going to get, but with Vita -- as you should know by now -- expect the worst and if you get something better, you'll be floored and ecstatic. :P

That being said, I really hope there's something else in the 2014 pipeline for major releases from 1st party, cause I'm not really an inFamous fan at this point.

Pretty sure it was because IREM went out of business.

Exactly. That would be IREM's excuse for not updating the licenses to allow play on Vita. :lol

It seems the offer is 32 euros for the rest of Europe, if anyone is interested. I was on the fence about buying DW: Next + VLR, but then I remember that I already have the latter with PS+. And there isn't really any other game I want.

Still, it's a pretty good offer. But I must resist, if I were to spend 30 euros it should be in Dragon's Crown. And i'll be killed if I receive two games in 15 days xD

Yes-Asia's 64GB card came to $95 Canadian (so, like...US$92?), and it had free shipping.

And yeah, the inFamous Vita thing is based on 1) that dev interview where Nate Fox said they weren't going to talk about it yet, and 2) famousmortimer's posts.

Amazing spiderman 2 was announced and guess what? Vita is the only console without it...
I guess we should wait for a late port no one will ask for...

Pretty sure it was because IREM went out of business.

IREM didn't go out of business, as they still release pachinko and pacislot games for 3DS, and other platforms in Japan. They just went crazy and started removing their content from digital storefronts. Initially I thought they had sold off those IPs to another company (Granzella?) but it's been so long that I just have to assume they don't like money.

Nah, when ASM sells 50 units on Vita Activision will use that as an excuse to completely abandon the platform.

Capcom is still third party enemy number 1 to me, but Activision is quickly closing the gap.

The "funny" thing is that who wrote the source don't even consider vita a platform:

"en mai 2014 sur toutes les plateformes(=for all platforms) : PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC et 3DS."

I would be glad if Infamous came to Vita, but it's odd how much priority Sony is giving to Killzone and Infamous. It seems that neither of those games exceeded 3 million sales, and that was on a console with a 70mil+ userbase. Shouldn't Sony be working on Gran Turismo and God of War for Vita? Then again Uncharted and LBP didn't do a ton of good.

Even better than that would be a new franchise built around the Vita that can take off. I'm really looking forward to Tearaway but it's obviously too niche.

Wait for an statement where Activision says they are only releasing ASM2 in the Vita if the crappy late port of the first game sells well. Still, I'm not buying it. There are better games out there, and I don't like to be extorted.

To be honest it would be stupid to announce asm2 on vita some day after the announcement of asm1, they would probably have a close release date.
They should have skipped asm1 on vita to make asm2 on everything vita included.

I can honestly say I'm a little surprised we ended up not getting a Call of Duty this year. I know Nihilistic is gone, but I mean, they sold like 600k+ of the really terrible one. Seems like they would have at least did a cheap cash-in.

If I were Sony I would be funding Activision for that, just because it looks really bad to not have CoD on your platform. Whether the game turns out well or not.

The 600k+ figure likely includes the bundle sales, so the game might not have sold as well at retail as Activision and Sony wanted. Besides sales, a quick cash-in is not very good for the long term health of the Call of Duty brand. The game received some of the lowest reviews on the Vita platform, and became the nadir of the Call of Duty franchise, so I doubt Activision will entrust production of its most valuable asset to Sony again.

And beyond all these reasons, Sony already has a quality FPS recently released that it wants to sell through the holidays, Killzone, so there is little reason to compete with its own game in a market that isn't very interested in portable shooters.

Suggestions about Y's celcelta? Never played any games in the series, I have sorta stalled on RPGs is this a decent and fun RPG?
I haven't played Celceta yet (duh), but the rest in the series are some of the best action RPGs ever released. Ys Oath in Felghana and Ys Origins are the best ones so far, with Ys Seven trailing behind them just a little bit. I & II are kinda old school/somewhat archaic, so you might want to leave that as a kind of curiosity after you've possibly already become a fan of the franchise after playing the better games, just to see where it all started. I'm sure Celceta will be another enjoyable action RPG romp.

And the games don't really have that much to do with each other as far as story goes (think something like Zelda, some past events might be briefly mentioned or hinted at but they are few and are not at all essential to the story), so you don't have to worry about being confused by the story. Or buy the PSP games from PS Store in anticipation of Celceta (you've still got at least a month, maybe even (almost) two before Celceta releases). :)

Grips are awesome. I've been using mine without recently due to the carry case I got.

Sony should license a zelda game with Samurai Jack.

Yep, bastards. Although to be fair it may have given killzone mercenary less of a chance..

Really pleased with infamous, not a huge fan on console, it was okay I just didn't bother with it much but it's exactly what I wanted, maybe even better than 3d batman.

Also pretty chuffed with malicious rebirth (again), I figured rebirth story was just the first story stages on hard, awesome to see it's not. What a steal! Only thing is I broke and skipped the few lines of story that was there... Seemed a bit daft. But everything else is more than I was hoping for.

Is it not out in USA yet or most of you all played it on ps3 already or something? Hope it's not just bad taste.

Still have to get back to new little king story as I was enjoying that quite a bit just before MR came out.

I'm super pleased with Vita recently despite Japanese hardware sales lol but I am craving some pokemon, haven't played since red... Which is what I want to play anyway, nostalgia for tthe guys. But not sure I can handle the time it sucks up.

The blame only lies with Activision. They had enough time to make a serious effort, instead Vicarious Visions was to incompetent to port the engine (according to rumors) and they had to rely on Nihilistic to get something out fast.

If GG Cambridge is able to port the KZ engine with nearly every feature, Ubisoft Sofia AnvilNext with some framedrops, Criterion their own Chamaleon Engine fine, how come they can't port the oldass Quake 3 engine, even if it is heavily modified.

And VanWinkle is right, people still bought the mediocre (it wasn't that bad) game at the highest price point. They should have made enough profit considering the development and opportunity costs.
The same could be said about EA and their shitty legacy edition of Fifa. Both Fifa and NFS did good.

Sure, as a bundled freebie, it wasn't so bad, but as a $50 entry in the Call of Duty franchise, it was astonishingly terribly and insulting.

Fifa 13 sold almost as well as the first Vita Fifa, and at almost zero development cost. It was for all intents and purposes a legacy edition as well, just without the label on the front, and clearly that was a smart business decision. I don't think this year's game will make EA much money, but it's certainly not going to hurt its pocketbook. Even 100k of a reprint can still be profitable.

A legacy edition is much less risky on a platform that has shown little growth in the past year. EA doesn't want to place a lot of effort into a new Fifa game on Vita only to see it sell 300k copies. If it were as simple as porting their latest home console iteration, sure, it might be feasible, but Vita can't run the latest physics engine, so a totally new Fifa game is not.

It just seems evident EA, Activison and Ubisoft are not interested in more than token support at this time.

Wait valhalla knights 3 is releasing in NA in 3 days!
Who plans to buy it? I would like to import it but it got many free dlcs, i have to wait for the EU release... :(
Is there an OT?

I don't know in other places, but the stores I often check have Call of Duty still for around 44.95€. So it's probably still selling decently, they don't seem to want to get rid of the stock.

The Vita itself is a different thing. I've seen Amazon selling it for 150€, and FNAC (which is a real bitch when pricing videogames) has it for 179 (170 for people with a FNAC membership). KZ:M bundle included.

Managed to squeeze about 2h of Dragon's Crown out so far and OMFG, this game is so gorgeous and it plays so well, I'm in awe.

How much content is there? Kind of impulse bought it so I didn't read up on it too much, now I'm hoping it won't be some measly 20 hours and done...

I bought it digitally on day 1 and and it didn't deserve such bad scores as it got in my opinion even though I normally only play singleplayer in Call of Duty.

The multiplayer was ok for a CoD game and could still my FPS lust for a little bit.

That EA didn't rework Fifa 13 was kind of understandable because Fifa Football just releases half a year before.
What happened this year is unacceptable though. I don't need every feature from the best version and surely not everything can be supported but at least offer me similar gameplay. Without tactical defending, you have to play half of the game completely different when switching between versions. The Impact Engine shouldn't be a problem, too.

With these two, I would be happy. Damn, I would even buy their legacy shit if it only were DLC and not €49.99.

I unlocked online in Dragon's Crown. Who is up for some dungeons? Need 6 more talismans.

honestly - i was really interested and was going to buy it... but the VK that was released for free recently turned me off to the series :/

What do you think the chances are Unit 13 will be a PS+ freebie? Been itching for a new Vita game, downloaded the demo (again) and actually really enjoyed it.

Goddamn. The 1.04 update to Dragon's Crown looks fun. Too bad I am completely done with the game. My biggest problem with it was that right when the magic was gone, the problems stood out more. Glaringly. I hope Vanillaware returns to little girls sooner than later.

  • New Elemental Lore: Fire Pillars (Torchlight swing or when Salamandra Oil is turned on; doesn't consume oil)
  • Elemental Lore is now usable even when holding temporary weapons
  • Ice magic no longer removes Burning status. However, Freezing status still does.
There are also others, but I'm only interested in Elf/Socreress. LOL.

Seriously, though. Where's Sorceress Skeleton upgrade? Ice Jail? Thunder Cloud? Curse and Petrification aren't that useful either in Labyrinth.

I find the post release support for DC to be bizarre. It's not like the game has had great legs, they aren't selling any DLC for the game and as much as I enjoyed it, it doesn't have the greatest word of mouth going for it.

Personally I wish Vanillaware would stop supporting it and get to work on whatever is next but I say this as somebody who has already platinumed the game :lol
